I think they wasted considerable time on both he and Dustin Vaughan and it came back to bite them.

Hard.

It a difficult issue.

I like the idea of developing a guy that might have some upside instead of just going with a veteran on the downside, but it's hard to manage the situation. Yes, I know Weed was old but he has minimal mileage.

Once neither showed improvement this preseason it was too late to have many options.

The Pats had the guy that ended up in Houston as their backup for a couple of years and he's now shown he can't play.

All that work to show the same two plays 10 times?

Sad for whoever put that together.

yeah, that's encouraging though, that they couldnt find that many boneheaded plays. they probably didnt try hard enough.

I think they were expecting Vaughan to step up and overtake Weeden. Vaughan regressed instead.

Tyrod Taylor has been in the league for 4 years and you've probably never heard of him until this season. He is a backup, at best.

Well, guess we gotta bench Romo.

And weren't you the guy defending Weeden along with RunDMC?

"Weeden Highlights" sounds like the title of a very short film award nominee for next year's Oscars.
How much film was used,25 frames?

That's true, it's obviously a challenge. The one that frustrates me the most was Vaughan. I never saw any of the supposed attributes that he was supposed to have, especially during this preseason. Not only did he do nothing himself, but I think he inhibited the team's ability to properly judge the other offensive parts they had when he was out on the field.

What a startling development...the Cowboy's coaching staff doesn't watch any tape on players before signing them to the 53 man roster.

Yes, he is terrible but a compilation of any QBs Ints is going to look bad.

He is bad enough, they don't need to include the Center snapping it over his head.

I could understand if he had to play last year and sucked; however, it seems that after having him around for a year that the Cowboys would figure out that he was not going to get better.

Just a guess but you really don't know how a dog will hunt until you take him a few times.

Well don't try to watch all of Weeden's highlights in one setting. It is too much for the human brain to take in all at once, just set aside a few weeks and watch and take it all in.

Ok. Better idea. Everyone else watch and report back here.

Why is Tyrod Taylor considered a bad QB? It's not like he has been stinking it up.

I would take Tyrod Taylor or EJ Manuel over pretty much any backup QB in the NFL based on potential alone. I respect Ryan for actually having a legitimate competition instead of just handing it over to someone because of experience alone.

Exactly. Plus he was younger and cheaper. Taylor was given the most snaps and the best playing time slots in the preseason. The Bills wanted either Taylor or Manuel to win the job and who can blame them. Cassel is not the future of any team.

Remember though, in 2014, in Minn, Cassel was in a similar situation with Ponder and Bridgewater, but he was given equal share of the best playing time slots and won the competition going away.
