Week 1 encapsulates why Dez concerns me

1. His back. Yes that was big hit on him but already we are hearing 'back spasms' from trainers. One thing we have learned from supporting this team over the years is bad backs end careers....period. My biggest concern for Dez is how he stands upright once tackling starts. Maybe its his size and thus lacks some maneuverability in tight quarters. Regardless, what I see is big WR who will endure back issues his entire career.

2. His inability to fight from his back. I get the sizzle that Dez brings with the X sign after Tds. I get the muscles, the passion and even his attempt at cleaning out his personal life. What I don't get is Dez inability to stand tall when things don't go well. More pouting, more Dez disappearing for long stretches for what should be single bag of saline solution run over few minutes. He simply doesn't do well when he can't play the bravado card. When he just needs to line up like normal football player and get to work..dez gets lost. He would be a killer on a good team but on this Cowboy team he is not the long term answer.

The only thing holding Dez back is not having an NFL quality QB, now even dink and dunk is in jeopardy...

Do you think that Dez is on the level as Calvin Johnson? I don't. It wasn't like Dez was running wide open on Sunday. Calvin is on another level. You often wonder if he is on the field. Don't get me wrong, I love Dez, but I'm not sure that we pay him a massive contract. I think we wait another year.

There's CJ, then there's the next tier down, Dez is a Top 5 candidate but CJ is the Michael Jordan of WR's.

Not quite

Just because he rag-tagged the Prince, don't put him on MJ level.

If you take away the game vs dallas last year, he had 1100 yards in 15 other games. Not exactly Jordanesque. Or rice or an irvin

Correction -- Johnson had 1110 yard in 13 other games. He only played 14 and he was in and out of a couple others with a knee injury that nagged him all season.

If you projected Megatron's season out to a full 16 games in 2013 he would have ended with 1705 yards.

Dez doesn't appear to be very smart. He seems to run on pure emotion. I don't think you break the bank on a player like that.

Romo's passes have the same zip as they always have. He's never had a cannon arm, just enough arm to make every throw. Romo had an awful game, but I'm not ready to write a eulogy for his career over it.

ummmmm..... no

really man? now we need to put down Dez? If only there were more of him on the team. I would love to clone him a few times and put 3 Dez wide set on offense and 2 Dez corners with a couple of Dez safeties on defense and DARE teams to air the ball out.

If I had a spare I might try and see if he could handle running the ball some that would be messed up.

I'm not trying to put down Dez. He is a great talent and I love having him on this team. If this was a solid team with good coaching and strong leadership I would probably feel differently. But it's not. Throwing top WR money at him in these circumstances will limit the team's options in other critically needed areas. Given the flaws in his game pointed out in the OP it makes it that much more of a difficult decision.

I've always thought Dez was an underachiever considering his talent, but I love his passion and leadership. He has Sean Lee's heart without his brittle bones. I thought Dez is great and deserves to be a top paid WR, but I'm not sure if a team with so many holes should pay a WR. I think a guy like Percy Harvin in worth overpaying in Seattle because he gives another dynamic to a flawless team.
