Talk about bad luck. The corner blitz with Oscan had Giants backed up forced a weird fumble pass and they end getting a 8 yard gain out of it.

A 20-19 loss is a tough one. Some observations:

1. Conservative play calling once again for the back up QB. This will cost Garrett his job if he does not work with Linehan to change.
2. Start Alfred Morris. He had better vision, broke more tackles then Zeke. Make Zeke EARN the job.
3. Speaking of Zeke, he does not appear in game shape and needs to be quiet about "breaking the rookie rushing record."
4. This team wants to be 2014 so BAD. I get it. Ball control offensive, time of possession - but it only works if you score TDs.
5. Defense was Ok, but any QB will be able to have plenty of time in pocket. The lack of a pass rush will haunt them all year
6.Some players just are not smart. Dunbar and Williams need to realize they need to get out of bounds. Maybe Bailey misses the kick - at least give him the chance.
7. That beautiful stadium has no home field advantage at all. It hasn't since it opened and my never.
8. Garrett outcoached by rookie HC

Side notes on other young QBs.

1. Broncos Trevor Siemian - coach gave him confidence with throwing out of the gate.
2. Eagles Carson Wentz - no preseason - no problem. He looked like a vet out there. He coaches were not conservative
3. Patriots Jimmy Garoppolo - make some nice throws- helps to learn from Brady.

1. Coaching adjustment was a problem....
2. What are you going to do when teams stop Morris? Zeke is not going to get 150-200 yards every game. The Giants have a very formidable line
3. I agree some of his vision was bad. But, the Oline didn't do their jobs either.
4. People will complain about going back to what works. Then, when they attempt that, they're wrong for trying to be like what used to be
5. I agree. Secondary played good considering there was no pass rush
6. Brain lapse. I agree you have to be more focused at the situation at hand. But...it happens. If you play sports long enough...it will happen
7. I agree 100%.
8. Garrett needs to kick his Def Coordinator in the rear to make some adjustments to muster a pass rush

Having Zeke ride the pine would nothing short of total stupidity. The guy was drafted 4th overall for a reason. Its not like Morris was the starter here and lost his job. If after 3 or 4 games Zeke struggles and Morris out performs him then my all means. Morris had 7 carries for heavens sake.

This. If anything, Morris should be used more then 7 carries for the entire game. Not saying morris should start over EE at this point but he should of gotten more carries IMO.

One game does not a season make. If anything, if I was the Giants I'd be very worried. Your gonna come out on opening day with your 100 mil dollar defense and get absolutely throttled by a team that trotted out a backup rookie QB and a rookie RB? Romo shreds them, hell Prescott shredded them. Prescott and Elliott will get more comfortable, our defense will settle down. Scandrick will get his legs under him, Byron Jones will ease into the safety role, and we get two pass rushers back in a few weeks. We are still winning the NFC East and if Romo can come back healthy we can absolutely make noise this year.

A 20-19 loss is a tough one. Some observations:

1. Conservative play calling once again for the back up QB. This will cost Garrett his job if he does not work with Linehan to change.

The play calling wasn't conservative, especially in the second half. At the time that we scored the TD to go ahead, we had a 22-23 run/pass ratio and we had moved the ball consistently...never had to punt to before that. From that point on we threw 22 passes and ran the ball 8 times. That isn't conservative. Nor is it acceptable giving how things we were going. We were setting it up to pound the ball down their throats to end the game, but just when we should have done that, we stopped. It makes NO sense.

2. Start Alfred Morris. He had better vision, broke more tackles then Zeke. Make Zeke EARN the job.

He certainly was more patient, but possibly when Zeke was out of the game they relaxed a little. I think this one is a bit more gray instead of black or white.

3. Speaking of Zeke, he does not appear in game shape and needs to be quiet about "breaking the rookie rushing record."

Agreed. This team has a really bad habit of talking too much.

4. This team wants to be 2014 so BAD. I get it. Ball control offensive, time of possession - but it only works if you score TDs.

It's one game. With a rookie QB. And rookie RB. Let's not throw the towel in just yet.

5. Defense was Ok, but any QB will be able to have plenty of time in pocket. The lack of a pass rush will haunt them all year

True. The Giants line is considered average at best. We got little pressure on Eli. Our blitz package is a joke. I say package but there really only seems to be one blitz. An always telegraphed corner blitz.

6.Some players just are not smart. Dunbar and Williams need to realize they need to get out of bounds. Maybe Bailey misses the kick - at least give him the chance.

Despite the fact that we still have people arguing about this, but it was a no brainer for guys to get out of bounds. Time was of the essence. Our guys played with no understanding of this concept.

7. That beautiful stadium has no home field advantage at all. It hasn't since it opened and my never.

It's not the stadium. It's the fans. Most are not the typical football fan. Many are wealthy people that are too cool to cheer. And then of course the mediocre product put on the field doesn't help matters.

8. Garrett outcoached by rookie HC

Not real sure he got outcoached. McAdoo did a lot of dumb stuff as well. He just had his players bail him out.

It just feels like more of the same.. It's a 50/50 brand of football.

I feel like our entire teams success is dependent on Romo..

Nothing against Dak... I just think Romo is about the only player on this team that the coaching staff can't make average.

Considering the team has spent years becoming 'Romo-friendly' and he is pretty much given the reigns to run the offense how we will, this is to be expected... sadly enough, even with Romo in the line-up, during Garrett's tenure here, our record is 8 and 8.

My reaction: Garrett's teams are never ready for the first game of the season. They probably should have lost last year, and would have if not for Romo. If you just tip-toe through pre-season without ever having all your starters play more than a few series, you won't be ready for the first real live game action. I understand avoiding injury in pre-season, but winning is habit forming. Confidence comes from winning, not from ability. Teams that lose a lot get used to it. I'm afraid this team is used to it and goes into games hoping to win instead of being confident that they will. That attitude, in anything, not just football, leads to hesitation, over-thinking, blame-shifting, and underachievement.

Oh, and next time somebody says "the Cowboys have the best OLine in football" I think I'll puke. Collins was bad. Free is not as good as Smith, but he was better on the left side than he has ever been on the right. (not suggesting they should swap, only pointing out that Free has been on the decline since the move.) Maybe it's time to shake the line up. Bench Free and Collins just to get their attention.

This was supposed to be a short post. (Sorry)

On another note, I understand the need to rotate defensive players to keep them fresh, but this team overdoes it. You have starters for a reason: they are your best players. You don't rotate olinemen because they have to play as a unit. Hmm, wouldn't that concept apply to the DL and linebackers as well? Even DLmen need to get into a rhythm of the game. Rotating in and out all the time prevents that. Dlinemen freelance and stunt the wrong way when they don't have confidence in the guy next to them. How can you have confidence in a teammate when you only play next to him a few snaps a game? And, DT and DE are different positions. Moving guys back and forth from one to the other in the middle of a game is pointless and counter-productive. The Olinemen they are facing are going to use the same footwork and technique regardless of who is coming at them. It doesn't dictate a change to the offense, it's just movement for the sake of movement. Yes, I am aware that Marinelli knows football a million times better than I do, but I think he outsmarts himself more than he does the offense.

Really? So who's on the bench that needs to be starting?
  • Not so much the bench but I don't believe that tappers spot should be protected. Put him on IR for someone who actually produced like McAdoo or the like. He hasn't played and barely practiced due to his back injury which may or may not keep him from participating this season
  • I think Zekes spot was given to him. Morris ( at this stage and I say this stage because Zeke might bloom later on) is better.
  • Imo - Collins was given the go ahead to start over Leary because of his youth and they believe they got a steal. He should have been a higher draft pick but because of his predraft issues went up drafted so mr jones wanted him to play.
  • Also, I think that Witten is given much more playing time because of his status and tenure w the Cowboys and some of those reps need to be passed around. He was poor in blocking yesterday and had several drops late in the game as well. Sure we all love Witten, and he can still do some things but it's time to give other guys reps.
As always these are strictly my opinions and I respect those who have contrary or opposing views. But I've felt this way for awhile (2-3 years) about the Cowboys.

Maybe you have a argument on Zeke but even as a rookie we believed him to be the best back on this team and the best back in pass protection as well.

How do you consider Tapper's spot protected and what has McAdoo done to take his spot? Witten's still the best tight end on this team though I do agree his reps should go down but once again who's taken his spot?

Fair enough.

Tapper made the 53 roster without even playing in the preseason and barely practicing. I believe McAdoo recorded 2-3 sacks in the preseason ( similar to Jenkins ) and a couple of pressures. They will not release or even IR tapper because he was drafted whereas MCAdoo was not. I believe that in seeing what tapper can do, but if he has yet to practice significantly put him on IR for the season and let him try again next season in training camp. Same goes for the DT Collins that we drafted. Never practiced and never played due to broken foot. Maybe he played a couple snaps somewhere but nothing memorable.

Give some of wittens snaps to sea aim or Escobar. The excuse was that Witten is the best blocker therefore he's needed in the run game, but his blocks yesterday where horrid esp against Vernon.

On a side note, Hitchens played poorly yesterday and was benched at half for Durant. Twills spot needs to be reassessed ( butler prob can provide the same production at #2) and frees spot needs to be looked at. JPP was killn him all day.

I don't disagree with really any of this except Tapper making the 53 man......he was a draft pick. A decent one too. You can't sit a guy like that on practice squad or cut him without giving him a shot.

Jason needs someone in his ear other than Jerry. In baseball terms he really needs a bench coach.
