And what I tried to explain to you is he had plenty of games like this in the past even with Kellen Moore give me a break in capital letters Prescott had 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions which by far probably was his best year outside his rookie year that was as good or better than Patrick mahomes that year 2021 in case you can't remember he can have less interceptions and more touchdowns even playing wide open I'm telling you expect it to happen again and I don't even care if it happens if he fumbles it throws an interception in the game where we need big throws high risk high scoring games Prescott can be that quarterback as well..

Let me reiterate cause maybe you guys just don't understand this, this has less to do with Prescott and more to do with who were our wide receivers last year who were our play callers and who was designing the plays and calling the games that was the bigger problem... Literally Prescott is a drop back pocket passing quarterback he is not a runner he will run when needed but if you need to him to be that quarterback to put up 350 yards a game he can do that there's just more risk to it just like all quarterbacks now you get it just like all quarterbacks the more you stand back there and throw the higher the risk it's gonna get kicked off or bounced or fumbled it it happens..

I'm gonna say this one last time there's gonna be a lot of games in the middle of the season where Prescott's going to have to be that quarterback again he's going to have to throw 35 passes there may be an interception or a fumble it happens it is what happens when you do higher risk type play calls.. And guess what I won't be complaining about it just like I didn't complain last year because we all knew most of it was not Prescott's fault he is not a changed quarterback this year he's just doing what the coach is asking him to do but sometime in the year just like last year,

the defense and the special teams are gonna make mistakes and give up points and give up yards and we're going to need to score Prescott's going to stand back there and do what he's always done and if he happens to make a mistake, it's part of the game..
Funny, because even Romo said Dak's footwork was much better this year. But what does Tony Romo know about quarterbacking?

But I get it, Dak is the 3rd rail for some. You can't even mention his name. If you praise him the haters come out. If you knock him, his fans come out. And even if you do neither, as I did, you still get blowback!

For the record, I have supported Dak in the past and I have said they can win it all with him. But last year I said, like just about everyone who knows what a football looks like said, Dak needed to stop making bad throws into coverage. Before anyone jumps to his defense, I understand that about 5 of his INTs were actually balls that bounced off receivers and stuff like that. But many of his bad throws were bad decisions regardless of what the receivers did. You don't have to argue with me, argue with Mike McCarthy because he said the same thing and that's even why he took over the offense from Kellen Moore. My original comment was to the effect that MM taking over the offense seems to have Dak playing much more efficiently than in the past. I never said Dak was awful. I just said he was playing better - so far. And I know he has had some really good games in the past, and some really bad ones which I will not recap in this post because we all know about them.

My issue has never been with how good he plays, my issue with Dak has been his contract. And before you say anything about how someone else with a big contract is playing, let me just say, Dak got $40 million a year when Dak was playing like whoever you want to bring up as an example is now. And btw, if Dak was making $50 million I would raise the bar on his performance level to match his salary, as I am sure the fans of those other teams with high paid QB have already done. Eagles fans were booing Hurts Thursday night!

Early videos, pick your poison, recaps below:

GOOD MORNING FOOTBALL (NFL Network)
Summary: Jets defense blew it. They were supposed to keep them in the game. They have to be best defense in NFL with Aaron Rodgers out, and they didn't do it. They did it to Josh Allen, but couldn't do it to Dak. Coach Q gets lots of love from crew. They admit they were wrong about Kellen Moore's impact. Dak looks good.

GET UP (ESPN)
Summary: Jets must trade for Kirk Cousins when Vikings lose chance for Playoffs, defense can't carry the team. Crew apologizes about trashing Coach Mac for getting rid of Kellen Moore. Coach Mac is a much better play caller than he was in the past. Cowboys are the Super Bowl favorite. Jets defense was catching air whole game. Incredible how many plays Cowboys ran off. Jets screwed up by not running enough. Romo is right about how quickly the plays come in.

FIRST TAKE (ESPN)
Summary: 49ers are still the best team in the NFL. Biggest question for Cowboys offense and recent history is can you be what you need to be when you need to be it? Want to see Cowboys beat tougher teams. Playcalling for Jets was horrible and no committment to the run.

UNSCRIPTED (FOX SPORTS)
Summary: Micah Parsons is running away with Defensive Player of Year and Cowboys are best team in NFL. Cowboys are most complete team in all 3 areas. Jets have a great defense and all Cowboys offensive questions were answered. Jets CB Sauce took his Twitter account down because of criticism on his coverage of CeeDee Lamb.

SALIVATING!!! GO COWBOYS!!!

Not a overereaction. Cowboys are kicking butt and taking names.

Just wait until week 5 when we go out west and beat SF.
If that happens, the bandwagon will be off the chain. It’s a road game and we have to beat the Cards and Pats to make it a really big deal.

I agree with the OP. There is an overreaction going on. Even though it appears that this year's Dallas Cowboys are for real, it does feel a lot like other Septembers in the past. The premature crowning. It's just way too early for all this Super Bowl talk. Sooooooooooo rare does a team look like the best team in football in September actually win the Super Bowl. What is the hurry in crowning the Dallas Cowboys?

Different team. Different year. They just look different. I know it's week 2, but I fully expect this team to take the next step in the playoffs. Getting to a championship game is the next step. If we can keep this team healthy, I like our chances.
Also, the 49ers are scary **.

No disrespect to the niners but I haven't bought into the Rams being a good team and they went toe to toe.

Just for clarification, I refer to Overreaction Monday the same someone would Armchair Quarterback.

I have no stake in the game, just the Videos and let you determine yourself. ;)

Last videos for Monday. The beauty of being a fan of America's Team is that Youtube has a Cowboys soundbite on just about every sports show on Monday.

Based on feedback on Coach Mac, I think he has a legit chance to win COTY if he keeps it up.

THE COLIN COWHERD SHOW (Fox Sports) Highly recommend!
Summary: Additional footage. Jimmy Johnson interview. Jimmy agrees that Coach Mac understands how to call offense, and that defense may win every game. Jimmy thinks there are 2-3 teams just as good as the Cowboys in NFL, but they are not playing as well as the Boys. Jimmy tells story talking with Coach Q after he lost Super Bowl with Atlanta and how to deal with your coordinators who have blinders.

SPEAK (Fox Sports)
Summary: This is what a Super Bowl team looks like. Cowboys are best team in football right now. Time for Coach McCarthy to get respect. Acho: I worked for 2016 Cowboys in Star, and that 13-3 team could not hold a candle to this current team. Joy Taylor, team is in the usual "We Dem Boyz" cycle. (I still love her)

PFT (Peacock)
Summary: If using the LT comparisons for Parsons, like LT, need to start involving him in the MVP conversation too, not just DPOY. He looks more explosive this year. Chris Simms: Has one of the greatest first-steps in NFL history.

FIRST THINGS FIRST (Fox Sports)
Summary: Cowboys only 2-0, not time to say its their year yet. Defense is probably the best in league, Micah Parsons is best player in league. Parsons is MVP right now, Tua 2nd. Give Coach McCarthy credit. He has Dak doing what he should do - manage the game.

MONDAY NIGHT COUNTDOWN (ESPN) Highly recommend!
Summary: Marcus Spears - #11 is the 2nd coming of LT. If you never saw him play, go watch some YouTube then watch Parsons... it's the same! He goes 100 mph on the first play and last play, and that's what everyone said about LT. Troy Aikman doesn't think it's out of bounds to compare him to LT. When his teams played LT, they had to draw the entire offensive gameplan up to handle LT, and teams do same thing for Parsons. He moves around constantly and beats everyone. What is lost in defensive performance is the great job McCarthy has done this year on offense.

Started last night with this clip on Sportscenter and Tony Romo Analysis on CBS Sports:

Stats of the Week from National Media:
  • Only 3 teams in NFL History since start of Sack tracking in 1963 to start 2 games with 10 SACKS & 5 INTS with this few points -
    • 1967 Rams (Fearsome Foursome)
    • 1979 Steelers (Steel Curtain)
    • 2023 Cowboys (Doomsday3?)
  • 13 - Last night was most consecutive completions Dak has ever had to start a game in his career
  • First 2-0 start for Coach Mac over Dallas Cowboys
  • First time Cowboys history to start first two games with 20+ margin wins
  • 9 straight wins at home for Cowboys right now going back to last year
  • Have to go back to 1965, to find a year that Cowboys allowed less overall points in first 2 games
  • 19 times in Cowboys history they have controlled Time Possession with 40+ minutes, they are 17-2 in those games
  • Cowboys are on track for 60 takeaways this year!
Previous weeks:

Week 1: https://cowboyszone.com/threads/monday-morning-national-media-round-up-week-1.513599/

And yet....there are things they can do to improve.

We can help ourselves! As Cowboys fans, we should know better. But this rinse/repeat cycle of losing in Dec/Jan, followed by offseason hype, followed by September Champions, followed by other teams figuring out how to play the Cowboys and copycatting one another.

Not saying that this year can't be different. In some respects, it does feel different than past seasons. This definitely feels like the best Cowboys team during the McCarthy era. So maybe we are for real this time. But that feeling of deja vu is hard to shake at the same time. I've lost count as to how many times in the last 28 years the Cowboys were crowned as Super Bowl contenders in September.

We have had hot starts many times over the years. And every time , the hot start is derailed by key injuries, and we look back at the end of the season concluding the team peaked in the first month or 2. So, I’m going to sit back and just enjoy the moment knowing full well super bowls aren’t played in September.

I wouldn't argue against what you're saying. We've all lived through it.

I will say for now this one does present a little differently. The defense is top 5 in the league and that's being conservative.

The offense feels more sustainable now with the Texas coast style of play. You can also for the first time in forever see a marriage between offensive play calling and the defensive performance.

This is without a doubt our best chance in a long time. That said it's a long season and things change rapidly. I'll do my best to quietly enjoy this year without popping off too much.

Agree. Takes luck too, to win it all. Hopefully our guys stay healthy. It will be a very deflating game indeed if #11 were to go out permanently.
