It's very unlikely we will see a pass rusher esp a WDE. Maybe on their last legs. More likely to find a 1 and/or a 3.

What's critical is to find out how long the Brent suspension is and more importantly how well Spencer and Melton play. I'd also like to hear about T McClain.

I'm still not convinced we are ok at DB the first 4 weeks esp so I wouldn't be surprised to see a vet CB or at least one with more experience and talent than what we have overall.

Leach isn't worth much. He is a 3 time pro bowl player because the probowl hasn't updated to include positions that get more snaps (2nd TE, h-back, 3rd Wr).

Maybe but I still believe him to be the best blocking FB left on the market and in the league. I think most teams would rather sign him after week 1 since the vet min is so high for someone like him

They added player throughout the season last year.

Sure. But never the sort of "I know that guy!" Type players discussed. The post was about vets you wait for after week 1. We aren't planning for those guys, we are just filling spots post injury

The problem is that the top focus this season should be to develop players for next year. If you add more vet DL, you don't leave room for any young developmental players. I would only be in favor of adding a vet DL if they cut Hayden to add the new guy.

How often have we added players for Week 2 in the last 10 years? I honestly can't think of any

There have been a few we specifically waited on.
The gritty CB we signed a couple years ago and Brian Waters are recent examples that come to mind.

I assume you note Week 2 because that is when vet contracts don't have to be guaranteed for the season, right?

Waters signed before the first game. He doesn't fit in that group. He didn't play until game 2 but that means nothing. He's not the sort of signing you are talking about.

These week 2 signings, they are the September version of the June 1st cut. Increasingly an almost never happen sort of thing.

Waters was signed for 3m and only cost us 1.5M against the cap. That and him signing in early September is what I recalled but yea he was on the team before week 1 so doesn't really fit this pure definition.

There have been a few others however that didn't get placed on the team until week 2 and were intentionally brought in for the non-guarantees.
It may be talked about more than it happens but it certainly has happened.
Since these are generally fringe guys not sure we'd find any real list of them.

Again back to my original question.

Like who? Who exactly have we signed after the first game?

this isn't that complicated their are tons of transactions that occur after week 1.
last year david carter, jerome long, marvin austin amongst others. a handful occur after week 1 and by week 3.
frank walker and ernie sims were guys we were told in previous years to look out for after week 1.

2012: Brady Poppinga, Ernie Sims amongst others.
2011: Derrick Dockery, Tony Fiammeta(sp?), Frank Walker.

Yes, I don't know what point he is trying to prove. I don't think they would have signed guys like Poppinga if they had to guarantee his salary.

Dockery -- signed before season started. Fiammeta - not a vet so the whole "week 2" business is irrelevant. Frank Walker - OMG you actually hit on one!

Poppinga - signed late November as part of our never ending search for bodies on the DL. Sims signed in October following Sean Lee's season ending surgery.

Again, your "Week 2" vet adds idea is falling way short of the mark.
