Rewatched that play on Romo several times.

They blitzed and Zeke blew the guy up, but he did fly over the top and a bit into Romo's line of site. Check that box for Zeke though. Nice job!

Romo steped forward and could have then gotten rid of the ball...and should have.

Avril got the jump of Free but he was way outside (room for Tony to step forward) of the initial pocket, so that's not all on Free.

Romo took off to a very open field but was planning to slide in the open area, but Avril was so fast he came from the entire other side and pounced on him while he was sliding.
BTW, Give me a freakin break calling that an arm tackle:rolleyes: . Dudes full body weight slammed him.
Very, very fluky.

But really, the pocket was there after the blitz pickup and the flying body in front of him and the feeling that Avril had beaten Free maybe even worse than he actually did made Romo take off.
Romo's fault, imo.

No his full body weight didn't slam him. That is what happened last year against Philly. It looked awkward because he was tackled from behind but it was mostly an arm tackle.

so after 13 years your analysis of Tony Romo is that he does not have a quick release and is not elusive?

Some people just have a knack for analyzing football players.

This Romo stuff makes me so sad. I'm glad we've got Dak to look forward to, but all the Romo criticism that had rightfully sunk to the bottom of the tank where it belongs is getting stirred up for us to swim through again. It's annoying.

Hit hit him with force from behind with his body to jam his back. Did he then land on him with all his weight? No, he rolled by him..
Good play by Avril ,but not an am tackle. Come on. That would've hurt most QBs.

What? Other than missing on all three Romo points you were good.

Greg Cosell says Romo has the second quickest release he's seen since Marino. Look Cosell up if you don't know who he is.
Roethlisberger has missed the second most games in the last five years of any starting QB. Season's of 12, 13 & 12.
Elusive? LOL Russell will have to have YEARS of plays to equal Romo's elusiveness. Go to You Tiube and watch five solid minutes of plays.

C'mon man!

Huh? Just when I thought it was gone someone brings back logic and intellect back to a thread.

Completely disagree with Romo's hit being an "arm tackle". He had a big man fall downward onto his shoulders, compressing his spine in the process. That hit would have hurt most people, even a youngster.

Sorry bro.. I live in Tampa and I see Winston take 10 hits a game that would end Romo's Career. I'm not saying I want Winston but this is the NFL,, a QB gonna get hit. Unless he hands the ball of 40 times a game and the rest are 3 step passes..

Just saw parts of the ballgame so I really am not making an overall judgement of Free's play but I'll say this. I did see the holding call on him and it was an absolute horrible call.

Yea. We all know the day is coming, I just do not believe that time is now. Not because I am a delusional fan who is dumb as the fan keeps calling people....I believe it because everything about romo is about being counted out and then proving everyone wrong. I truly believe he has it in him one more time.

I think he will do everything it takes week to week to play and get through this season. If he can get this team to the playoffs then I think he will really let it all go one last time.

I am not sure what the future is for him beyond this year, while everyone was whining about his collar bone I have said all along the issue is those clean shots from guys running full speed into his back. He has taken shots through the years that would have knocked guys out but he got right back up. Watch the 2012 bucs game, the 08 giants game, the 11 dolphins game etc....he got hammered and kept going.

What angers me about all this is that the local media and so many fans just flush the guy down the toilet, I completely understand it is a business and the best players should play but c'mon. The lack of respect for the guy and the way that he has been used for attention nationally has always driven me crazy.

I will never forget after the third preseason game vs cincy in 2012 Tony Romo went out to a planned dinner with the team and instead of standing at his locker he did a conference call while driving over to the restaurant. The media was so outraged. Gina Miller called him a ******. I never understood why he has had such crap from the locals especially the second tier locals like gina miller, clarence hill, jen engle. They are not exactly football professors.

anyway, I think the play last night shocked him because he had no sense of avril coming and didn't brace in anyway for the hit..kind of like a car accident where your body goes into shock because you didn't expect the collision. I think this will help him going forward this year. I also think much like the early part of 14 if there is trouble he will just go down and live for the next play.

I expect him to play this year and play well. I don't know about next year, but I think he is determined to get through anyway anyhow this year.

The exact same things that were said about him last night were said about him during the post game and the morning after the niners game in 14...he was done, his body couldn't handle the nfl and his back was shot. Even Babe Laufenberg who I love said he was done in the summer of 2014. He was saying it again last night.

I don't think he is done and I think everything about who he is tells me he is going to play and play well.

Your exactly right.

The defender had his left arm around Romos neck and his body glanced off of Romos shoulder as he went down. It was hardly a vicious hit and it definitely didn't involve the defenders full body weight.

I guess if you say anything other than it was a viscous hit that would have ended the career of a mere mortal then you are somehow bashing Romo.

Agree with some of what you say......

I was at the game last night with my son - we drove down.

The Romo injury was scary - we saw Avril loop way around Free and come from behind - no WAY Romo could have even had a sense he was coming - was directly from behind. Romo should have gone down earlier and/or thrown ball away - it is pre-season - no need to hold it forever - but usually he has a great 6th sense - this time was no way to see Avril....in addition, the way he folded up was frightening, as his legs were forward and he was already bending to slide and Avril hit him and push his upper body forward fast bending him over with legs stuck in turf - that stretched the back - I thought he had popped those discs - nobody at 34 would be comfortable with that - it was awkward and unexpected, and the guy broke 2 collarbones last year - hello - that would scare anyone - especially if you have back issues too. I watched him on sideline (was on our side of stadium) and was relieved to see him try to get back in, jawing with coaches, and throwing and then standing and watching - apparently without major discomfort - I was pretty relieved as a big Dallas/Romo fan - the way he grabbed at it originally........

Williams is frustrating at times, but with all our other weapons and a combo of Beasley, Witten, Butler - I will accept not having a bonafide perfect number 2 - can't have it all. He is running better routes. We need a few more screaming coaches that get on him about the stomach catching though - agreed!

DE's - agreed - this is a head office failure - they should have gotten a 1 year stop gap as soon as they knew Lawrence and Gregory had issues - which was probably long before us....

I thought Green looked solid in the 2nd quarter. After he came in for Tyron till the 2nd half he looked pretty confident. That was encouraging. Free was reeling a bit - although Avril went so far around him that first sack, no way most Oline stay with him that long....

The run D was good early - I think the DT rotation will be ok. Haven't seen much from C Thornton we grabbed from Phili - would like to see more.

Prescott is pretty darn poised. 2 major drops - 1st one receiver didn't go back to ball quick enough and didn't extend hands. Was that Williams, i think they said Street at stadium but might have been mistake. I think Whitehead also dropped what could have been a good gainer - and with his speed, maybe more!

Lee was all over place early - in on every tackle -what a stud. Witten catch - what a stud - looks pretty limber for an old guy that was never fast anyway. Beasley and Butler are gonna be on the roster - I now think we only keep 5 there at WR with Whitehead the last for his returns.

Wilcox can hit hard, but terrible technique - just makes way too many big mistakes. i really hope he is special teams guy only or gone.

They played the hell out of number 30 - Brown - our draft pick I think - I thought he showed quite a bit - he tackles well and shows WAY more awareness and football IQ instincts than Wilcox etc - and seems pretty smart - he made some good tackles in space - on the plays where his guy caught ball - we had ZERO pressure and he was covering for 10 seconds lol - he was BUSHED - but I think he is our 4th corner. He would get snapped up.

I liked all 3 RB's.
Watched the warmup for almost all of it. Zeke is 100%. He was running really well, even highstepping and goofing around - I don't care if he is 5 pounds heavy - with the pounding those guys take - that is probably a good thing - he is not a scat back, but is a 3 down back and for that pounding and the protecting he will need to do - a bit of padding is fine - will fall off him during season anyway. His choice in GF's and decision to hit a pot store when we have 2 guys already suspended (Lawrence was PED no?) because of weed or similar stuff - is a bit inmature. I like smart players on and off field. On field, man I loved his fire and he showed speed, vision, balance, and power/nastiness - and had great response to Seattle's BS and late hit - he is no push over and has an edge.

Romo was throwing the ball with ZIP in warm-ups. He does look healthier (well until play 3) - he did look healthier - than I had seen in a long time. Ball was flying out of his hands. I think the collar bone is fine - and he did shake off that back hit WAY better than i thought he would.

Tyron is a beast. He is massive and fit! He is also a quiet leader. He led team off from warm-ups. He led team on when they came out to start game. Not a yeller, but you can tell they feed off his focus and ability. Collins is massive man - even bigger frame than Tyron, but not as fit.....

I did not see Dez on sidelines - I guess he didn't go.
Same with Leary.
We have a solid top 8 Oline. Yes Free is iffy at times, and getting older and Green needs a TON of work - which he is getting, but I think Green has improved 3 games straight - which is VERY promising.

Byron Jones looks like he is slowly and steadily improving and solid - nothing flashy yet - but he is around ball.

Mo gave up a beautiful touchdown pass - but he is tackling a bit better or at least trying (not having to make business decisions with a lame shoulder or because he is too skinny/fragile). He looks more decisive and doesn't give as much cushion - seems to be tighter - we will need that with absence of any pass rush.

linebackers looked to be switched around a lot. Wilber has moments, but still makes mistakes. I didn't see them play Hitchens much

Russel is our new poor man's "almost there" Spencer......He gets close but falls down and doesn't have the closing speed - looks like a big DE - but doesn't have that pass rusher quickness (maybe needs to drop 10 - big frame and that - but can't deal with QB agility). He tries. Made a good tackle on runner for either no gain or loss.

Number one issue is pass rush - which contributes majorly to lack of turnovers. We will live or die with offense this year - and hopefully can control clock with run game....

I thought we were slightly better team with number ones in there. Seattle killed us in 3rd, but had more starters in. We smack them in mouth with run game and they did NOT like it. Our oline and run game can pose problems to a good team with a very solid defense. We didn't have Dez to loosen it up either. Seattle got it's second sack on what looked like a corner blitz I thought (or was that one Dak smartly threw away into dirt - can't remember now - Dak seems pretty smart out there too, which I love).

those were thoughts for now.....

I simply stated that that hit last night was not an "arm tackle", as the OP stated...and it was not.

I should say, too, Tony looked pained to me on the sidelines during the game, but his postgame was very encouraging. Just the same old Romo, and he was very upbeat about how good the starting team looked tonight. The whole team is expecting a good season.

Can't wait for that Giants game.

quick release is based on how fast you can execute your throwing motion. Romo has one of the most compact, quickest releases in the game.

don't confuse his desire to extend plays, which puts him at risk, with a quick release. two completely different concepts.

I never understood why he has had such crap from the locals especially the second tier locals like gina miller, clarence hill, jen engle.

You answered your own question. Its exactly because they are second tier. And the first tier in DFW media aren't exactly a bunch of Norman Einsteins.

Just watched it yet again in slow mo.
Tony was starting his slide, Avril jumped in the air and landed on his back just as his butt was getting ready to land. So Avril + Romo's upper body weight for second there at impact.
Arm tackle my arse.
WWF maybe. Like some dude jumping off the ropes and landing on someone. lol
Avril is fast, btw.

Anyone curious, just go look at it. The footage is everywhere.
The great news is that he is ok and maybe actually more confident in his back after taking that direct compaction.

Anyway, Romo's take
"You can't put people in bubble wrap," Romo said. "You've got to play. It's football. You're going to get hit and things happen."

The quarterback added: "I don't think we'll have another one as far as, a hit that is timed that perfect on your back. That's as extreme of one as you don't want to have, I guess you could say.''

Romo took a pretty good shot because he got hit high while a decent portion of his body was in contact with the ground which would cause a torquing motion to the lower back, which is what he hurt. In a younger player it probably doesn't get them out of the game. In regular season I suspect we call a time out as he's coming off the field and see if he can get stretched out enough to stay in the game then. Its preseason there is zero reason to send QB1 back out there who might have a ding on him. ZERO.

The OLine was good over all. Some leakage, but one would expect that against a very good defense. Free is the weak link on the OLine and if you can say that you have a fantastic OLine.

Wilcox is done I think. Heath is making the team. I think Frazier has shown enough to not want to put him on the street and risk losing him.

The CB lack elite players but have good depth. I think we keep 5 for sure and could see an argument for 6. Mo was good yesterday, that throw from Wilson was just better.

RB is set, or at least it should be. I'm sorry DMC but you got hurt at the exact wrong time. Zeke is the bell cow. Morris is a very good RB2. Jackson has shown enough, to me, that you don't want to put him on the street. Dunbar has a purpose in the offense and is active now. DMC should stay on NFI and then we get to make a decision in about 6 weeks.

DE is a mess, but that was known. DT looks pretty good. LB is Lee and a bunch of guys at this point. I think the DT play will help out the MIKE somewhat though.

WR still seems like a bit of a mess outside of Dez and Beasley. TWill will always be a body catcher, which means you can't trust him when spaces get tight. Butler, I was hoping, would make some strides but still seems like a guy. And the down roster guys haven't made me say we have to keep 6 WR.

TE looks good. I wish we had Hanna because he;s a very good blocker, hopefully its not too all fired serious. Swaim looks like a lock. Escobar is probably a lock but he hasn't shown that much. The question is do they keep a 4th while Hanna is on pup.

Basically what I'd say we've learned is that our 1s and our 2s are alright. Our down roster is a disaster. Which means you have a decent chance to be a good team.

The hit was a little late and a little high. I think if its a QB other then Romo it would have been flagged. Going for the strip that late on a QB slide is questionable at the least. Frankly I just think Seattle tries to ride the line between Edgy and flat out dirty.
