Good question, I was more focused on Vaughan and his play.

He was fine but he was playing against 3rd string defenders.

The Niners game was a better test because he started. He was OK in that game also.

He has shown the required physical ability to get the job done. The question is if he can handle it mentally if he has to start a real game. It would help if he was playing next to a veteran Guard like Martin or Leary. I would like to see him play RT, but he has only played LT in the 3 preseason games.

The biggest problem for a guy like Weems is that he won't progress that much without playing in a real game. A player that is raw when he gets to the NFL can only progress up to a point with only practice and preseason games. Parnell progressed more in his 7 starts last season than in the 3 prior years of practice and preseason games.

He played LT because that is the position he needed to work on. I think they are a lot more confident about his RT ability. I really doubt they have an opportunity for a better player after cutdowns. Good OL are going to be kept.

Yes, I don't see any better player being available after cuts. They would have to trade to get a better player and even that would be difficult. McClay said they can find RBs if needed but that finding OTs would be very difficult.

They were really stressing Weems in the video of practice drills that I saw from earlier in the week. It looked like they are either going to make a legit player out of him or kill him in the process.

I'd expect we'd move Free over if we needed an LT long term.

Martin and Collins ARE the swing tackles.

In the past we've been unwilling to move guys around. Maybe that changes with our current talent. I believe though that Free is the real swing guy with Collins or Martin as RT options. Free has LT experience. Collins and Martin played there in college but not at this level

Martin and Collins ARE the swing tackles.

Never mind the fact Zack Martin hasn't taken a single reported snap as an OT since joining the team last year?

Martin gets some time in at center with the second team, but never at tackle.

La'el Collins did take some snaps at RT at the start of the off-season program, but has focused exclusively at guard ( he added RG with the second team late in camp)from OTAs on.

Jason Garrett made it clear the coaching staff views Collins' best fit in the NFL is at G.

Doug Free missed the entire off-season rehabbing, it was the perfect opportunity to get Collins snaps there, if desired.

Darrion Weems is the swing tackle as things stand.

Tony Hills was just released today by Carolina and he was our swing tackle last season when Free was injured and Jermey Parnell was starting.

Speaking of Weems, anybody see how bad Luke Joekel was getting tossed around in the Jags game? Wow!

If that is the plan then they are wacky for only having Weems play LT in all of the preseason games. It seems somewhat logical but I have not seen any signs that it is in their plans.

Maybe Weems is actually better at LT. That's where he played in college and that's the only position he played/practiced back in the 2013 training camp and the small part of the 2014 TC before he was injured.

I would just like to see Weems at RT for a game but they don't seem to want to do it.

I also thought either Collins or Martin would takes some practice reps at OT, but that has not happened. Martin did take some snaps at Center and Collins has played both RG and LG but neither have practiced or played at OT.

Hopefully Pollack, the guy that took over for Callahan, knows what he's doing.
