I think the book is still out on Charlie Weiss. He is a very good coach but I can't say that he is a great coach yet. At Notre Dame, he still hasn't won big games to really suggest he is a great coach. And we are looking for the next great coach not the guy who beats teams that he should and then loses to top competition.

The only ranked team he beat this year was Penn State and they were vastly overrated. He lost to Michigan and USC. The only big win he has had at Notre Dame was last years victory against then #3 Michigan. And remember that he was supposed to benefit from having one of the best offseason recruiting classes so Notre Dame was supposed to be significantly better this year and we didn't really see that.

I wouldn't at all be suprised if LSU killed Notre Dame this year.

Bob Stoops is a better coach. His national championship was one of the greatest coaching jobs ever accomplished in any sport. He essentially won with no talent that year and even had to convert RB's to receivers because they lacked depth at receiver. He inherited one of the worst classes in Sooner football from John Blake, yes that Sooner team even lost to Baylor, that's how bad they were. He even installed a spread offense from a conservative running pro-style offense the year prior. This year, he finished with 2 (1) losses despite losing his starting QB and RB and we all know he won the Oregon game.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but that's because the talent Weis inherited simply isn't good enough to compete with top 5 caliber teams. The primary cause of ND's fall from grace over the last 10 years has been the poor job of recruiting done by Bob Davie and Ty Willingham. Where ND used to have top 5 classes every year, under those two the Irish rarely broke the top 20.

Weis' first class was outstanding, and this year's group of recruits is looking even better. In time, Weis will win a National Championship at ND. Mark it down.

Stoops? With all the talent he has gotten, he only has the 1 NC. Same as Mack Brown. Weis had about 3 superstars, 3-4 really good players, and a bunch of average guys. Unfortunately most of the average guys were on the O line and in the secondary; or at LB. He will not be playing his guys untill next season. Its intructional what he was able to accomplish with guys that Willingham barely broke .500 with.

Sweet.

Until the Titans lock him up, I'lll continue to believe that there's a chance that he could be our next HC. It's also got to be very tempting for Fisher to coach one of the most recognizable teams in all of professional sports.

Why would we want Fisher?????? What has he done???? Nothing! He is simply lucky that he did a bad enough job last year and some teams were stupid enough to let Vince young slide, otherwise they are looking at another sub 500 season. As it is they are only going to be 500 and wont make it into the playoffs. There super bowl run was complete luck, remember the music city miracle...oh yeah...In his 12, TWELVE years with the Titans he will have had 4 count them FOUR winning seasons at the end of this year...

CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON FROM JEFF FISHER!

Somehow Bob Stoops seemed to be able to walk into a team that hadn't recruited well and won a NC.

You act like Weis took over the Army job, and not Notre Dame. As long as ND has a TV deal, they'll get good players.

Brady Quinn, Jeff Sam., Ryan Harris, Darius Walker, Rhema McKnight, Tom Zibakowski, Victor Abiamiri....

This team is full of players that could go in they top 3 rounds of next April's draft. You can't say this team didn't have enough talent.

And still with enough talent to contend, the next big game Charlie Weiss wins, will be his first.

I'd rather spend the dough on Fisher.

I think Fisher would want to stay with the titans now that Young has emerged and looks like he can play in the NFL.

I really doubt that JJ wants to pay the $15 miilion buyout on Weis's ND contract- then spend another 4 mill per year on top of that. 5 year deal =$20 million. on top of the $15 million. Does JJ really want to pony up $35 million?

not to mention that little playground he's building in Arlington.

As usual some people look at QB, WR, etc and think thats all there is. ND weakness was on the O line(sound familiar?) and in the secondary (sound familiar?) overall D (sound familiar). and also FG kicking (sound familiar?)
Add to that bad LBs. Yes the Irish had a great QB, WR, PR, 2 real good D linemen and one real good TE. The rest were at best average. WHile Texas, USC, Mich, ETC them have been getting 7-10 players drafted every year, ND haas been getting 3-4. that has been consistent for the last 5 years. THAT is a pretty good measure of overall talent.
