Disagreement among Cowboys over right tackle spot

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 9, 2010 11:32 AM ET
Ed Werder of ESPN is reporting that with just nine hours to go before the Dallas Cowboys' playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles, there's "disagreement within the organization" about a roster move that coach Wade Phillips has made.

Phillips has decided that Marc Colombo, who is finally healthy after missing seven games with a broken leg, will start at right tackle. Doug Free has started the last seven games in Colombo's absence, but he'll open tonight's game on the bench.

Werder reports that some Cowboys insiders believe that Free has out-performed Colombo at right tackle and deserves to keep the starting spot, and that there's concern that the Cowboys' offensive line could struggle with the Eagles' blitzing.

Werder also reports that running back Marion Barber and linebacker DeMarcus Ware are both ready to go. Both are listed as probable.

Its not like if Columbo struggles early we can't replace him...sheesh how much longer can Werder stay employeed with ridiculous junk like this.

Who cares about Werder? He's a turd.

Wade is just rewarding Colombo for his hard work to get back into football shape. Free will see a lot of time tonight.

It will only be a horrid move if Columbo's man gets a sack or three and causes a couple fumbles. Then there will be hell to pay. Mark it down. Let's hope this does not happen but I don't think you mess with something that hasn't really been broken for 8 weeks....it has shades of Johnson for Flutie although not nearly that impacting.

Yeah, Colombo will start but I'll be surprised if Free doesn't get the majority of the snaps.

It is probably Free that is in disagreement, he probably feels he has played good enough and deserves to start.

We've argued for and against this all week on here, but some of you don't think that people on the actual team may not all all be in agreement?

Some of you love to attack werder.

This is a non-story unless it's Houck that wants Free to start. Then we have news and a stupid move by Wade Phillips.

As long as that's the OL coach's call and Wade supports it, who cares what anyone else with the cowboys thinks?

Houck's and Garrett's opinions are the only ones that Wade should listen to and I would think that he has.

Just because Colombo starts doesnt mean he does the whole game correct? Why is this an issue, Free knows hes back up and he got plugged in because of injury.

Maybe Free might even move around the line and keep some guys fresh or from making penalties.

If talents are equal, then Colombo should start., I remember hearing that coaches don't like to show young guys you can lose your job to injury, because then they will start to hide injuries.

...and he's correct. If anything I'd bunch Flo's lazy butt.

I would stick to what's working, and leave Free in there. Wade doesn't have a good track record when it comes to brining back a veteran to start after injury, in a playoff game. Remember Rob Johnson?

Hopefully its a long playoff run.......might well need Columbo up and going at some point........get him some game legs early as possible.
