That chart is carrying many extra pounds of extra bogusity.

I didn't weigh in their normal range after a two week long bout of dysentery.

hey - i was in the obese section for awhile. paid the price for that and other bad habits and i'm down 60 lbs but still have a ways to go. but what was amazing to me was i didn't realize at the time the weight i was losing. i was out of the hospital, no longer allowed to have alcohol (that hurt) and just sat around recovering from almost killing myself indirectly. when i went in for checkups i kept weighing less and less. finally i was about 60 lbs down and i noticed my back quit hurting all the time. i had a bit more energy.

unfortunately as i got better the appetite came back but i'm still down around the same, just quit losing weight without trying.

anyway - what i thought was amazing one day is a package i ordered that was around 40lbs came in and as i was bringing it in a friend of mine had stopped by (and told me it was on the porch waiting for me) and i was just like "damn, kinda heavy" and he said "yea, and you used to carry that and more around all the time.

kinda sunk in just then.

anyway - the chart is ********.

There's a good book on this subject called "Younger next Year". Amazon has it for around $24. There's a version just for women also. All you need to do is look around at Americans then visit another country in Europe or Asia to realize the majority of people in this country are overweight. There's no short cut into losing weight. Exercise and a healthy diet is the only healthy answer . This book lays it all out and will transform your life if you follow what it lays out. It's not a weight loss book and definitely not about some fancy new diet but all about getting healthy and living longer. But as a byproduct you will lose weight.

Guess it would depend.

I'm 6'4 230 and obese.

An NFL player who is 6'4 230.. is probably not obese.
Which is why these charts are kind of silly.

in my college days i was 6'4 and 240 and i was far from obese. i had actually worked a ton to lose around 30 lbs that summer and it showed.

It's increasingly being accepted that the BMI approach used for the most part to categorize an individual's weight is antiquated as it does not take into account body style, weight from muscle vs fat, etc. I do agree this nation is trending towards being overweight/obese at a scary rate but I suspect the percentages of the analysis in the original post are skewed. According to this approach, I'm borderline overweight/obese and if you saw me in person, you would think the opposite.

Weight Watchers makes a fortune off this....

Lol, None of this is "made up " or "antiquated"

We are the fattest country in the world
Obesity and smoking are responsible (directly or indirectly) for the majority of our, mortality, morbidity, and health care spending

There is a reason that "adult onset diabetes" (mostly due to obesity) is not called that anymore, because our kids are fat and are developing this disease in childhood instead

Burying our collective heads on sand is not the solution

and calling someone 6'4" 245 obese isn't the solution either.

You have to account for individual differences, I am talking from a population standpoint

OTOH, telling fat people they're fat to change their behavior is fine in my book

"Body type" is just a PC phrase to allow fat people such as yourself to feel better about themselves

Facts are facts
Read 'em and weep

lol. I sure hope you're kidding. Ever look at football players? (basketball players, baseball player, hell anyone) Notice they all don't have the same body type. Even those that play the same position. How about comparing Flozell Adams to Tyron Smith. Peyton Manning to Tony "Pear" Romo. Tyrone Crawford to Jay Ratliff. Jay "stringbean" Novacek to Jason Witten.

Ya fat-***
