Can't help but notice that there are several other teams that are losing players AND not grabbing FAs. Of note is Pitt. They seem to be pretty complacent with Randel El going and Hope roaming around looking for a home. New England has been quite too. Still quite a few names out there who haven't been picked up and will probably stretch FA activity for a while. So, all you chicken littles don't panic just yet.

A bit easier to swallow while grasping a Super Bowl trophy, huh?

Admirable message, however, those chicken littles have been that way for a long time, and unfortunately you wont be able to convince them the sky is NOT falling until they see it for themselves. Until then we will just have to put up with the negativity.

It's a difference between prudent spending in free agency while building through the draft and "building" through free agency. Teams who spend wisely and draft well win Super Bowls. You can't buy an NFL championship.

Dallas is focused on its needs, not on making a splash. Their scouts have access and advantages we do not or ones that we overlook. They saw value in Kosier while he flew beneath our radar. We missed it because we view the NFL through the media and media broadcasts, not the coaching, scouting networks and game films the NFL personnel have access to.

Essentially as fans we have the right to complain when the 'Boys gamble on old players whose best days are several seasons removed coughMARCELLUS WILEYcough, but it's hard to judge otherwise.

I've also noticed that there seems to have not been as many signings this year as in past years. I think what may be happening is that the agents saw the big increase in the Cap this year and got $$$ in their eyes. Now the GMs are standing firm and letting them sit until they come back to reality and their prices come into line. That may make the FA season seem more protracted than in years past.

Very well played, my friend. They are both playing with a much stronger hand than Jerry's Kids. They can afford to be much more complacent.

Pitt is counting their blessings for winning this years SB, and I don't believe they really care about anything else right now!

Outside of the usual Danny Boy stupidity, you have the Browns throwing money like crazy, as well as the Vikings. Not great references.

I don't consider myself a "Chicken Little", but the sky hasn't exactly been all that blue the last eight or nine years has it?

And one worth thinking thru..

While the owners may have agreed to the new CBA and the increases they didn't want to agree to initially..

..it wouldn't surprise me that some owners have also discussed that while the money is available to their teams, spending it in crazy signings only hurts other teams.

Could there be an unspoken cap amongst some owners that is making them restrain from doing the big signings on the second tier of players in the hopes of bringing asking prices back down..?

You seem to suggest as much in your post.

Is that legal..? Doubt it.

Could it be a backlash from the owners due to the CBA thing..?

Very possibly.

We'll see.

If JJ is one of these owners holding back..when TO is finally released and speculaton heats up about him coming to Dallas..

..if he's signed..it will probably blow this whole notion about holding back the spending..with JJ leading the way.

Hmmm...

Funny that you mention the last 2 super bowl winners there.:lmao2:
I don't think we are quite good enough to stand only on what players we had last year.

Sadly, yes. They remind me of when my nephew was 6, & I took him to the circus with one of his friends. The friend had been given money & bought a couple of those expensive flashy toys they sell (that break about an hour after you get home). My nephew just went nuts, because his friend had a toy & he didn't. And really, that's exactly how the whiners are sounding today--"The Skins have FAs, why don't we?"

Who cares about the skins? Let 'em spend their money on overrated FAs. They have virtually no draft picks this year--with the Lloyd trade, now they're out a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, correct? And you can guarantee that most of the guys they've signed in the past couple of days will be restructuring &/or gone within a couple of years.

If you read the sports columns over the years--they consistently say you DON'T BUILD A TEAM THRU FA!!! You fill in needs, but you BUILD thru drafts. That's what the Pats have done. The Iggles. The Steelers. The Seahawks. That's what the Boys are doing. We've picked up one FA & we will get others. Will they be "names?" Probably not. I'd rather have a player than a name. The fact that we've already signed one--on the first day of FA, & sound like they have another almost signed, seems to indicate they've pretty carefully targeted the players they want--so spare me the Wiley analogy. I have a hunch that, with Vinateri & some others, they're letting the price drop a bit. I haven't heard of Vinateri even interviewing with another team.

Neither ae they. That's my point exactly. In order to win consecutively or at least regularly, upgrades must be made or at the minimum replacements must be acquired to replace departing key players lost through free agency. New England HAS NOT done it and also haven't exactly stood on their past accolades either have they? Pitt is losing their #3 receiver, Bettis, most likely Hope (if he comes to his senses) and could lose a few more. If you're just now figuring out that we're not good enough to "stand pat", you've been oversleeping. However, I think the Cowboys through the first 6 games last year could have beat either last years Steelers or the Pats.

well, the Steelers and Pats weren't always SUper BOwl winners, remember how they got to that point? it wasn't by spending an inordinate amount of money in free agency

True, but it also took them much longer than six years to do it.

well, they did it, while I have yet to see an example of buying free agents winning a SUper Bowl in the salary cap era

That's my point, the Commanders have only been at it for six years. To me, that is not nearly long enough to say it doesn't work already. Especially since only two of those years have been under a competent HC, in which there has been an obvious improvement.
