I never understood how Bradie became the defacto leader of the defense all the sudden. Zach mentioned something about it being "Bradie and Roy's" defense a week or so ago, and I just don't get it. The guy is abhorrent in coverage and his his tackles are consistently overrated because:
A.) the rush is almost always funneled in his direction, B.) the linemen aren't making plays because they're eating blockers for the 'backers, and C.) the other linebackers on the roster all have alibis... Ellis and Ware are both pass-rushers and are released into pass coverage more, thereby limiting their ability to be in the vicinity for tackles... Akin was a veritable ghost at times, and the rest were youngsters who never got consistent playing time.
Bradie is a good, not great, tackler. He's bad in support, but he's vocal, so I guess that counts for something. If the guys look up to him, far be it from me to question the chemistry in the locker room. He seems to be a good, genuine dude who serves as glue for a room that can look like a who's who of the most dangerous presences to a team's psyche in the NFL right now. So if he's able to balance that and keep some of these guys like Tank and Pacman in line, I have no problem with starting him and keeping him happy. Just so long as nobody has any illusions about who's to blame when Kellen Winslow busts us for a 40-yard TD in Week 1 down the middle when the lethal Bradie-Roy duo breaks down in coverage.... again.
