Oh gee... you mean Jerry invited guys into the box with him that he *GASP* actually had a working relationship with and knew on a personal level over guys he's probably talked to 2-3 times his whole life?

Wow. Shocking.

Any notable absences that struck you?

It was nice to see a pic of Murchison, but I don't remember one of Schramm, who was probably more identifiably a Cowboy. Was Troy even at the game?

And I know Jerry loves his own guys, but it would not have killed him to put up the former players in their own suite for that night. And the audio highlights were showed too much bias IMO. I love Choice and Felix, but no way their clips should be so prominent, not that night, over the many who were much more deserving.

If the Cowboys do not honor their own players from their past, why should the HOF voters.

Jones has been that way since he bought the team. I know many fans who left the team once he FIRED Landry.

They did not root for a uniform or a star they rooted for people and their ideals. Once Jerry broke the ties - the championships had a taint on them that severed the present from the past and is sorely missing.

Tex was instrumental in creating much of what Jones simple rode on. Tex is barely mentioned in the history of the Cowboys and creating what fans take for granted today. Little history lesson - if Dallas had a midline team like the Saints or Falcons it would have been known as the place JFK was killed not home of the Cowboys.

Landry had more winning in Dallas than anything Jones has been able to muster and was unceremoniously dismissed.

Landry has more class than Jones ever will have in his entire life. I'm sure there are many veterans who care very little for Mr. Jones, they probably have the same class as Landry and keep it to themselves rather than to let the media know.

I'm disappointed at some of the comments here about sitting in the cold. These men are 60s-70 years old and deserve better, much better accommodations.

Not everyone can get into the Owner's suite. Lockhart stays pissed. He's an odd ball.

I was surprised not to see -- or at least, I don't remember seeing -- any real recognition of Jimmy or Barry. Yes, I know Barry's a clutz, but three of our five Super Bowl wins were unrepresented from a coaching standpoint.

I was also surprised to see so few of the players from the 90s there. Where was Woody? Working at ESPN, maybe? Or guys like Stepnoski, Brock Marion, etc etc.

Not going to argue the unceremonious dismissal, but the first part of the bolded section is debatable since 3 of the 5 Super Bowl trophies came under Jerry's watch.

Landry gave the team 20 winning seasons, two Super bowls and five NFC championships, 13 Divisional titles, and compiled a 270-178-6 record, the 3rd most wins of all time for an NFL coach.

I love the Bowls also but I give Landry more credit than anything JONES did other than buy the team. If Bum Bright hired Jimmy Johnson maybe we could talk but Jones...forget it. Tex runs circles around Jones in the GM department.

You all but scoff at Jones' 3 Super Bowl championships. Landry's consistently winning seasons were great, but would have been somewhat empty without his 2 Super Bowl wins.

Just look at how this fan base celebrates Danny White and his consistent winning ways.

I'm all for criticizing Jones when it's deserved, but you act as if he has done nothing for this franchise. And that lack of objectivity in this debate therefore clouds any of the complaints you launch. How can this conversation be taken seriously when it's prefaced with "I love the Bowls also but..."

There is no "but" when we're talking Super Bowls.

It's why the Eagles are the Eagles, why the Cowboys are the Cowboys, etc.

Sorry. Just not buying it.

There is no way the Tripplets should be in the Ring of Honor when guys like Harvey Martin, Drew Pearson and Everson Walls, just to name a few are not in.

Unfortunately, I have to disagree.

The triplets are in the Hall of Fame. The triplets won 3 Super Bowls.

Those guys you mentioned were excellent players and deserve their due but they were very good not elite players.

I wish their was more to be done for the older players for sure but someone should tell Eugene a lot of ex-Cowboys players didn't even get an invite, much less a ticket.

You are right! I don't even recall seeing any stillshots of Jimmy even. Odd since I thought they (the JJ's) had patched things up.

But Jerry loved Barry, wonder why he was not there either?

Don't Jerry and Jimmy both work for Fox on Sundays?

It seemed like the only absent people "accounted for" with an excuse for their absence was the deceased and Ring of Honor members -- both categories to which, clearly, Johnson and Switzer don't belong.

Still, they're the freaking head coaches that have accounted for 3/5ths of our Super Bowls!!! Their importance deserved recognition.

Go find all those fans who left when Landry was fired please and hang with them.

How many 60 year olds would have killed for tickets to the game? And exactly what suite do they get to sit in? Jerry has already sold the friggin suites he had his suite and it wasn't gonna hold 100 ex-players.

BTW, Landry had completely lost it at the end. He is an icon but even icons get replaced. Tex Schramm would have fired him but Jerry took on the responsibility and then the media scooped up the story before he could and once Landry had an inkling it was coming wouldn't take Jerry's calls. All in all Landry himself came of as petty and bitter to be honest. Go ask a lot of his former players just how they felt he treated them. Most had no idea what the guy was like or thought because he never even uttered a word in their direction.

All those years of coaching and he won 1 more Super Bowl then Barry Switzer.

It is ironic though how those Cowboys teams weren't considered total failures when they didn't beat Pittsburgh or lost to the Rams. Danny White had/s a passionate fan base with zero rings....

Some former Dallas Cowboys apparently felt left out in the cold during Saturday night's ceremonies to honor the closing of Texas Stadium.

Former linebacker Eugene Lockhart appeared on our show, Tylock Lasik SportsTalk last night on KFWD, channel 52. He was visibly angry about what he called the disconnect between the way Jerry Jones treats the team's former "stars" such as Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith, and the players from the organization's more distant past.

Much of the anger seems to center around the fact that most of the players who were honored on Saturday night had to sit out in the cold during the game, while those "elite" players like Emmitt joined Jerry Jones in a luxury suite. Lockhart said several of the ex-Cowboys talked about how Jones coddles players like Emmitt, Irvin and Deion Sanders, while turning a cold shoulder to the "lunch pail" former players who helped pave the way for America's team.

The fact that Lockhart was still angry about what he felt was being slighted, a whole two days later, says a lot. It seems Jerry Jones may not be winning any popularity contests with the Cowboys of the past.

That is, unless your names are Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, and Michael Irvin.
It's called: You were a marginal player, recognized as such and dumped as soon as Jimmy Johnson could move his stuff into Landry's office. Making 200 tackles in a season means nothing if all of them are 10 yds from the line of scrimmage. The triplets are like Cowboy royalty and are treated as such. Just be happy you were included Eugene. With that attitude, my guess is, you won't be again.

PS how's the Tshirt business coming along?

Lockhart still hits the gym in Patriot gear on occasion.

:laugh2:

Emmitt had a classic a few weeks ago following the Saints' MNF game where Deuce McAllister broke the franchise TD record.

Stuart Scott asked Emmitt the importance of Deuce, and Emmitt had a bumbling reply something to the effect of: "Deuce, Deuce Staley is a guy you, who is best with the ball, that can run."

It was so great I TiVo'd it and showed it to my wife later in the night. :lmao2:

Emmitt's a great Cowboy-- possibly the greatest-- but I don't understand how he has a job in broadcasting.
