"Doc I have a problem."
"What's the problem?"
"It hurts when I raise my arm, doc."
"So don't raise your arm. NEXT!"

Symptom eliminated.

Losing Marion Barber as a running threat certainly didn't help either.
Didn't hurt. When Garret decided to give him the ball, Choice was every bit as good. But we didn't have that option because too many WRs were crying for the football.

If he indeed stays, Garrett needs to stay out of these battles with Owens and simply come up with an offensive plan that puts his talented receiver in the right places at the right times. You notice he's ineffective in a certain route or a short slant? Then stop using those plays. Play to T.O.'s strengths...he still has many.
.

So ignore the other teams defense. Ignore their strengths and weaknesses, Ignore the other weapons you have on the field. Ignore that your QB is at his best when he improvises and goes through his reads, not tries to find a way to get one WR the ball.

Make a game plan all about TO, and everything will be all right.

Dumb way to run a football team IMO.

He's a recurring symptom. One that systematically kills the patient and then moves on. No problem.

If you don't see the cause and effect sequence in your own post, then we just need to stop talking about this--obviously some of us differ greatly on our understanding of cause and effect.

Hey, mutinies are fun--let's all join in!

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

Especially considering you seem to be implying that Terrell Owens caused Jason Garrett to do a piss-poor job of scheming and play calling. How does that work?

You must be reading my mind, I couldn't agree more. That is the distraction brought by one selfish player, It results in a divided locker room.

I have watched the Cowboys from their very beginnings and TO has brought nothing to the history of this great franchise. If he is gone next year I certainly don't think it will harm this team, he will never be on my list of players who helped build this teams storied and successful football legacy.

You obviously don't grasp the dynamics of problem/symptom. Treating a symptom masks the problem. It's not rocket surgery.

The wording is very wrong, but I can see a point in the madness. The fact is, Jerry Jones has the ability to squash this and always has. He is obviously the final say at Valley Ranch and he wants to be in that position, so he needs to stop being an enabler and tell him to shut his exceptionally big yapper.

TO: Jerry, they didn't give me the ball enough!
Jerry: Shut your fat pie hole.
TO: Jerry, Deion wants to interview me
Jerry: hope it goes well at the end of the bench, which is where Wade will put you. Now shut your super sized fat pie hole.

When the message is clear from the top down, the problem will be solved.

There's no question that T.O. is not the player he once was. But he still has the ability to change a game, provided he's on the same page as his quarterback and his coaches.

Sadly, that was not the case much of last season.

Terrell Owens not being on the same page with members of the Coaching Staff is starting to sound like a broken record. Again, this is NOT Philadelphia, we have several other Playmakers on this team and the Offense doesn't have to go through Terrell Owens.

As soon as Roy Williams arrived on the scene from Detroit, it seemed like Jason Garrett tried too hard to get all his receivers involved and the Cowboys offense seemed watered down. Losing Marion Barber as a running threat certainly didn't help either.

But instead of blaming Owens as a convenient scapegoat, the Cowboys coaching staff needs to better utilize him. Make him work for you. It's too easy to say T.O. is breaking up the team and that the best decision is to get rid of him. It's the easy way out.

I don't doubt that Owens can be a disruptive force in the locker room. But listen to his teammates....they like the guy. They get a kick out of him.

T.O. is not the problem. Maybe a symptom...but not the problem.

So the Offensive Coordinator should just shut up and do whatever Terrell Owens says? Kind of hard for Jason Garrett to take the author's advice when Team Terrell (Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin) and Terrell Owens himself are throwing him under the bus publicly.

Why isn't it how it works?

Garrett underachieved with the talent he was given.

Yet Owens is the 'bad guy' for daring to mention it? Better to sit back and waste the season I guess.

I'll tell you what the real problem is, the Cowboys don't have anyone with the sack to deal with a strong personality - not the owner, not the head coach, and not the offensive coordinator. And that's on each of them.

They need to look in the mirror for the problem.

If their solution is to get rid of Owens, they're cowards.
Cowards who don't have the guts to stand up to their players.

And if Garrett is threatening to leave if Owens stays - see ya. Dealing with players is part of a coach's job. You can'y do that, stop coaching.

How soon until the next 'difficult player' needs to go so neither of the 'delicate coaches' feels bad?

It won't fix the root of the problem.

All bias and/or hatred aside.
This is a very good post. It reasonable.

This is very true. But I WILL NOT put it all on Garrett. "the talent" wasnt executing/making catches. Garrett and this offense was on the "fine line" of total success and collosal failure. Obviously we leaned towards the side of failure. But we are THAT close. He should get another shot with these players. It could work. Very well.

If you get rid of Owens it indeed shows alot of weakness. By that I mean you used him as a scapegoat. When at the end of the day. Owens was right to complain. This team was underachieving and no one was upset about it.

If Garrett is foolish enough to go that route it speaks volumes about him. To have the talent of TO and then throw in RWR. If you, the OC/AHC cant make that happen = weak.
