I live in Carrollton, Tejas and keep my thermostat at 75 in the summer.

My wife complains that it’s too hot, but I don’t think so.

Am I a monster, or nah?
Ours is set at 73-76 range, so not according to us.

I could go this way.

I spend so much time outside that conditioned air is a relief in either season.

The worst time of year for me is spring or fall when the Morning/evening air is so nice and crisp, and there’s no real way to recreate it inside.

I turn it down to 69 just before sleeping. I find if I set it for 71 or higher for sleeping, I have some congestion or dry throat when I wake up.

For daytime, 77-79 usually. If I come back in from being outside, or from grocery shopping, I'll bump it down to 75 to cool off from that.

Got a new AC unit 2 years ago. Bills have been way down due the effcicency of the new unit. I lived with the inefficiency of the very old previous unit for too long. I don't know why I waited so long to bite the bullet and upgrade!! I went with the heat pump option. They even wired the new digital thermostat for power. I need no batteries for it, and I leave the display lighted 24/7.

just got a heat pump in the spring. My previous unit was from 1995, so it was lousy with efficiency.

Plus I was always scared it was going to break down.

I can already see the difference in my bills and I have less stress about coming home to a sauna.

What I added early on, was solar screens to all of the windows, including the sliding glass door. That made a huge difference right away.

My wife is puro Mexicana so this time is her Winter, as she likes to say.
I used to be totally Nordic and 60 something degrees was my thing.

Now?
Summer: 77
Winter: 85

Just kidding!
Winter: 70 with a good fire going in the hearth.

So awesome I got to use the word "hearth" on this site!

To late to revise mine?
The last several days Oklahoma has been under a heat dome. Ya know, the type of weather we don't usually see until around the 1st of August or so. Thursday was close to 100 and you could another 6-8 degrees to that for the heat index. And if we don't get moisture from the gulf in June, its probably hello Drought again.

72 in the summer 75 in the winter:thumbup: We bough a wood stove this passed winter that was a good deal but WAAAAAAAAY to big for our 1500 sqft house.

Even with a modest dampered fire it gets in the mid 80's in the house and i find myself down to my underwear and a window open even on a mid 20's day.:lmao2:

We only use the wood stove on the weekends or if we are home because of a snow.

I do 66ish degrees in my car in the summer (max cold). But in my house? Doesn’t that blow up your electric bill?

Not really. Although I have kept it there for the last 15 years so I guess I don't know what my bill would look like at a normal temperature...

What's a thermostat?

In the winter it's if and how much I open a window to compensate for the blasting woodstove.
In the summer it's windows open and shades drawn on the sunny side of the house.

Wife says it's 68 but I'm pretty sure it's like 40 degrees indoors year round. Kids wear coats around the house in the middle of July........

If we're going there, does anyone set an alarm clock to a time that doesn't end in 5 or 0?

I usually do quarter hours. Otherwise there’s not really a difference in 5:45 and 5:50am

I’m still gonna be dragging ***
