What a first day!

IMO, Jerruh sat on his hands last year during FA because he didn't want to do Mike McCarthy any favors.
Jerruh makes more money if he doesn't spend for Free agents and just has a mediocre team.
Us fans should have this all figured out after 29 years of Futility. :(

Let me say one thing. Javonte has one thing in his corner, and that is youth. He's not even 25 yet. This was a very good signing. Low risk high reward. We can't stop there. Now we need to get corners.

They have already shown us for almost 3 decades that they have no clue how to build a winner. We shouldn’t be surprised this is what they do.
Free up cap space to just sit on it. Sign back up players who are fringe roster players. Talk about how important the draft is but also give up 4th round picks for players that aren’t worth 4th round picks etc.
This has been a losing organization for a reason, look at the two clowns running things. The only team in the last 20 years that hasn’t been to a championship game but yea keep doing the same things every off season it’s working.

The isn’t a reasonable explanation for being a fan of this franchise any longer. You either like pain or find joy in watching disfunction. The front office work since Stephen took a primary role has been bottom tier and it’ll stay that way.

Groundhog Day every year

Same architects mediocre effort made.
Mediocre results achieved on the football field.

Maximum profit compiled in the bank.
They watch as serviceable players run out the door, deemed to be too expensive and they fill those spots with worse and cheaper players.

If I were Parsons, I'd just play out my 5th year option and say see ya. He's going to end up like Ware and Tyron and Zach............. HoF players playing for an idiot owner and never win a thing.

So you think the Cowboys will sign no one?

Of course they will.
Did I say that ? However, the expectation was, with the early restructured contracts, that we'd come out of the traps and spend.....otherwise why do it.

You don't need the available CAP before announcing any signing....so the whole restructure was purely down to a positive media spin.

I think his point was obvious. Why create all this space (and maybe more with a Parsons extension) and then just nickel and dime your way through FA again.

Of course they will sign people but they will be slugs - like the RB and OL we just signed.

This franchise is dead.

Listening to analysis this morning it does scare me that we may be heading into the season with a RBBC like last season and no real #2 WR. Yes there is draft but this seems to lean toward “like our guys” If they sign Rico are you happy with he and the RB signing? These are the questions I have. That leaves the draft to fill a lot

It's no different than previous years. They truly think the draft will save them every year. And it doesn't because not even the greatest drafting teams could hit on enough players in one draft to immediately make us better.

It does mean something - it means that they are very thin at a position where they are now going to have to put more resources - sounds like they were caught off guard with Lewis leaving unfortunately...that is going to force them to spend draft capital or make a fa move they had not planned on
It's a JERRY WAY OF THINKING...in his mind he's PAYING Diggs, he's going to pay Bland, he's NEVER going with a position group with 3 high paid players.
I would assume we're likely to go CB in first two days of the draft.

Sorry brother I can't read that.

Paragraphs are taught at age 6 for a reason.
1st off...edit that down! TLDR.

and go ahead and put some space between points. They didn't even have to be paragraphs.

You'd think by now people would know how to best "give your thoughts" on a message board.

Yep, and you could add the perplexing strategy (if indeed there is one):

  • 2024 season - where he had the ideal opportunity to either: All-In (a last hurrah behind the re-signing of Tyron, Pollard, Gilmore, Hankins + FA spending), OR tear-it-down and trade: Osa, Martin, J-Lew, D-Law. Let Dak play out the last year of contract.....as there was no other QB that was going to up the top market value.
  • why create $50m CAP space in 2025.....for no apparent purpose?

There arent many Day 2+ signings that are going to equate to $10m hits on the 2025..... and in any case, he could of restructured existing contracts AFTER the FA signing.

I suspect he restructured the $50m to hoodwink the fanbase into thinking he was going to spend.
This is a big part of what makes zero sense about this front office’s approach in 2024, and appears in early returns in 2025 in the form of a few questions:
  • If you are rebuilding your roster, why would you sign a 31 year old gimpy QB who has two wild card wins in 9 seasons to a ridiculously giant contract? Then do nothing to support that QB with weapons. Makes zero sense.(If you are rebuilding, you don’t sign Dak, maybe not Cedee as well)
  • On the other hand, if you are not rebuilding and you think you are close to competing for a championship, why choose to do almost nothing in FA or trades to “go for it”? It is insane.

Jerry'll hope that teams will hold out on Rico, waiting to see what happens in the strong draft class....price for Rico comes down and we sign him on the cheap (if Jeanty doesn't fall).
As for WR, Jerry isn't paying for two WR's....I bet he's hoping on a bump from Tolbert (or, again, look at the draft).
Jerry's MO is never to spend big on more than one position group.

Losing Lewis was a major unexpected loss…we have 1 healthy starting cb as of today and are in a very bad spot overall
Agreed. Probably Dallas’ best slot defender and a leader in the defense; left with Bland and Diggs coming off injury…secondary took a step backwards with the loss.

Worse, why restructure and kick more money into the future if you aren't going to try to take advantage of this window?

Teams take on bigger future dead money hits in order to try to seize upon a window where they can win. We just kicked millions further into the future (when Dak likely will be worse) and are actually watching our team get worse. LOL. How is that possible?

Yep, it's baffling, because Jerry was at a natural junction, but didn't show clarity of thought/purpose to go in either direction (both of which would of at least been justifiable).
He took that, oh so frequent approach, of just doing enough to be relevant which has led to 2025 being similar.
