Yep, it must of been to deflect media/fan disquiet. Indeed, it could be looked at as another ^#@& up....as agents asked for more from their clients ....."....but Jerry, you can't plead being cash strapped, you've just restructured $50m'.Worse, why restructure and kick more money into the future if you aren't going to try to take advantage of this window?
Teams take on bigger future dead money hits in order to try to seize upon a window where they can win. We just kicked millions further into the future (when Dak likely will be worse) and are actually watching our team get worse. LOL. How is that possible?
We're going down the road of soon insisting on Harvard Referencing.I be you're all about that Oxford comma!
Harsh yet fair.Sorry brother I can't read that.

They see this as a product they can package and sell as opposed to a team they could construct and win championships with.Worse, why restructure and kick more money into the future if you aren't going to try to take advantage of this window?

Jerry needs the money for his Johnnie walker blue and hookers and Stephon is just playing it cheap til daddy dies and he can sell the teamYep, and you could add the perplexing strategy (if indeed there is one):
- 2024 season - where he had the ideal opportunity to either: All-In (a last hurrah behind the re-signing of Tyron, Pollard, Gilmore, Hankins + FA spending), OR tear-it-down and trade: Osa, Martin, J-Lew, D-Law. Let Dak play out the last year of contract.....as there was no other QB that was going to up the top market value.
- why create $50m CAP space in 2025.....for no apparent purpose?
There arent many Day 2+ signings that are going to equate to $10m hits on the 2025..... and in any case, he could of restructured existing contracts AFTER the FA signing.
I suspect he restructured the $50m to hoodwink the fanbase into thinking he was going to spend.
Good post brother. Good points all.The Jones’ have proven again that they have absolutely no clue when it comes to trades, the salary cap, signing free agents, retaining those players who you can “afford” to keep and restructure etc. etc. etc. This year as with last season were going to be the “all in” years of offseason deals and player acquisitions! Last season they didn’t sign Dak or CD until the 11th hour in August with deals they could have made earlier in the year, say March and had they done so, they would have cleared up over 20 Million in CAP space. Looking back they obviously were going to retain CD which cost them 8-9 milllion in CAP space and CD acknowledged that he wasn’t asking for more earlier in the year than later. Dak’s signing on the other hand was the biggest f-up of Dallas Cowboys history! If they were going to keep him, sign him early and along with signing CD, 20 million in CAP space could have bought Derrick Henry, or possibly Saquon, or Josh Jacob’s, or Aaron Jones etc. etc. plus still have had over 10 million for possibly another lineman, a linebacker, DB, whatever!! By waiting to the last minute on Dak, all of the experts presumed the Cowboys would pay him for 1 last season and be done with him, unless he led them to a NFC Championship or Super Bowl? But alas, after a terrible season, they make him the highest paid player in NFL history AND to double down on it, they re-structure his contract again this year which will now pay Dak until he’s 75 years old! (Easy, it’s a joke)! Which brings us to today, the first day to sign 2025vfree agents and kaboom, we sign another RB with 4 years off of the tires! FYI, a RB’s lifespan in the NFL is 3 1/2 years! . I wish Javonte Williams the very best, I really do but if this is what is ahead in the “all in moves” for the Cowboys, nothing will change other than we will be a team that will be worse off for many, many years to come…
Thank you Jerry……………………….Idiot!
Serious question. Do you read the last page of a book first?I think his point was obvious. Why create all this space (and maybe more with a Parsons extension) and then just nickel and dime your way through FA again.
Of course they will sign people but they will be slugs - like the RB and OL we just signed.
This franchise is dead.
This is such simplistic, homerish analysis here.So how many other teams barely participate in signing big name FA's?
How many other teams did not make trades?
Only Jerry is met with criticisms because he did not do what couch coaches / GM's wanted him to do.
Oh, they didn't sign the guy I wanted them to sign, Jerry sucks.
No I read the book from start to finish. I also enjoy reading history books. They often can give a glimpse into what the future holds if you see trends and similar things happening.Serious question. Do you read the last page of a book first?
Yes the haters struggle. This is such simplistic, homerish analysis here.
But I get it. Some of you are really struggling with the reality here.
Well thanks for your permission to hold out hope, I'm grateful for it.No I read the book from start to finish. I also enjoy reading history books. They often can give a glimpse into what the future holds if you see trends and similar things happening.
The Cowboys have basically sat out FA for more a decade. Since Carr, they have been one of the cheapest teams in FA, with Greg Hardy being their most expensive FA over that period. They routinely watch their own talent run off and then replace them with cheaper, worse options claiming that the draft will fix their ills. For ten offseasons, they have refused to come out of the gate in FA strong, signing a player or two that can make an immediate impact for them. And in each of those 10 seasons, the Cowboys have been a middling franchise where if they do make the playoffs, they get routinely bounced early. And yet the failures of the previous season and offseason don't seem to affect Jerry and Stephen. They go right back and do the same damn thing the next offseason.
So with all that in mind, the fact this team has largely been inactive here at the start while signing bottom feeding JAGs is a pretty good indicator that this offseason is going to be just like the previous 10. The fact they don't have Parsons signed yet tells us that they likely have no intention of signing him early and creating cap space they could use now to get better.
You want to hold out hope it will be different? Have at it.
THIS.Groundhog Day every year
Same architects mediocre effort made.
Mediocre results achieved on the football field.
Maximum profit compiled in the bank.
It's the worst and it goes beyond just how bad they are. It's because they know they are bad but their egos refuse to step aside and let a real GM step in place. Not sure any other team is setup like this.Team has become an absolute joke. We’ve been lapped by mediocre teams. We have one of if not the worst front office in professional sports.
Jazz, to me it’s not about just signing big names. It’s about being prepared and proactive about signing the guys you already know you want.So how many other teams barely participate in signing big name FA's?
How many other teams did not make trades?

I agree to a certain point. But I look at both sides and from different angles.Jazz, to me it’s not about just signing big names. It’s about being prepared and proactive about signing the guys you already know you want.
By delaying signing or extending their “stars”, they literally lose cap space. They could have signed Parsons months ago for a lot less than now. Same with Dak, Cedee and others. They wait and wait…and lose cap space by waiting.
When was the last time this front office made a proactive move early? Again, I’m not upset about not signing big name FAs. But how about having a clear plan to get the players they already want signed early and save money? It’s stupid not to.
