I agree with you that we got off to a horrible FA start but I do not think Ferguson and Rivera can be considered bust...
Giving Kosier over 3 million a year is mind puzzling to say the least ..The guy stinks and we alreay have several guys on the team that are as good if not better than this guy.

We just gave him tier 2 money

How do you know the guy stinks?
How many of us watched him actually play last year and heard his name mentioned. Just because he was on a bad team doesn't mean he can't play. I said yesterday in another thread, when eveyone was calling for the release of Allen. I said he just may be playing RT and not LG. Watch and see. I may be wrong, but that is my EARLY pre-camp opinion.

IMO - Ferguson - Rivera were collossal busts - Huge huge! money for two 30 something stiffs - who never made a difference, especially Rivera who was pushed back consistently.

Now we come out and sign a career backup OL? who is too slow to play LT - and we re-sign a guy who is so slow that he was actually leapfrogged for a TD last season, when in fact he was the one who started the p;lay by snapping the pig!

Ok - not that was bad enough - but we haven't had a Kicker since Boniol and whadda we do? we let 3 get snapped up yesterday - Corey Chavous? Snapped up - Chris Hope - not coming :bang2: = More Keith Davis and Roy"I no Cover" Williams :banghead:

Bad bad bad - I am sick.

Chill.

Fergy and Rivera were both hurt last year. Fergy played pretty well after he got better. To call them "collossal busts" is way overboard.

This "career backup" was the number oone player the Cowboys wanted in free agency. You know something more than the scouts?

The kicking situation - who knows.

Chavous and Hope were both overpriced and not even our radar. Only the fans were screaming for them.

Only one day into free agency and already the sky is falling. :laugh2:

We haven't signed any playmakers yet. If our off-season ended today, certainly this would serve as a severe disappointment.

The good news, though, is that there's a lot of time left. Still need work done at receiver, safety, linebacker, kicker and possibly even fullback. Who knows if the o-line is completely settled, either.

IMO, in Kosier, we signed a valuable swingman who could start in a pinch. I don't consider him a sure-fire starter, however, despite the money we paid. He's not a guy I would feel comfortable with as a fulltime starter in place of Larry Allen. Not yet, at least. If we do release Larry, then we still have a huge hole left at right tackle -- at least as it stands now, we'd have Allen, Kosier and even Petitti as potential challengers for that right tackle spot.

And Ayodele is a guy who is a productive player, but again, not a game changer.

I don't see either of these guys "producing" wins for us. But again, free agency is still young. We're in, what, Day 2? :laugh2:

Hopefully players like these -- if Ayodele is indeed signed -- will merely be a part of the bigger puzzle when free agency is complete. A puzzle that, when put together, spells a playoff run.

Dale, me thinks you are maybe incorrect on this one. I think Kosier is the full-time starter at guard instead of Larry Allen.

I'm not talking about what the actual plan is. I'm speaking solely of my thoughts on the two players.

IMO, Kosier is not so good that he should simply supplant Allen in the lineup without a competition occurring. And if Kosier is our answer to replace Allen, and he constitutes one of our bigger free agent signings, then I think we missed the boat here. Because I don't see Kosier, as we stand right now, as being a superior player to Allen -- even an aging, diminishing Allen.

After all, the off-season is about improvement. If Kosier is brought in and Allen is kept, we have improved depth and the quality of competition. Otherwise, I don't see this as much of an upgrade at all, but hopefully I'm wrong.

No, I think you're right.

Kosier wasn't going to sign with us to sit on the pine. I'm convinced of that. What competitive athlete would?

I think in essense we've "traded" Larry Allen for Kosier and basically come out even on our cap dollars for 2006.

I believe it is an upgrade but not a huge one. I think Kosier is better than Larry Allen at this stage of Allen's career-- even though it does kill me to say that.

Well, the Browns got some real good players, so did the Vikes, then Panthers, then Cardinals to name a few. Looks like the Cowboys, staff, blew it, even read reports where Jerry jet is going to Mexico, but first to Carolina.

That can only mean one thing to me, that the Cowboys are planning to let teams get the best players off the market, spend all their money, then the Cowboys can get the good mid range players, and still have money left over for real good players in summer, & preseason. Also, to me states that the Cowboys are planning on getting TO if he comes available. If not and somehow TO goes to KCity in a trade, to me are season is a bust.

Reason why is that look at Vikes a team that almost made the playoffs, they have made huge jump at free agent players, just like they did last year. Then, take a playoff team, Carolina, they got a decent center, DT in free agency. So have the Rams. While we sit!

So either we fumbled on start of free agency and we werent ready like letting Fabini walk (he may still be hurt injury) longwell get signed by vikes, not locking up fujita are examples. Either teams like Carolina, Vikes, Browns, are more hungry to win, and spend money, or we are waiting for something special like TO, Vinny kicker from Patriots, McGinnest, and get better deals when everone elses cap money is spent, and then we can dicate to players that we want, take it or leave it.

Funny you bring up the Vikings last year in Free Agency.

They signed the "best" CB last year, Smoot, while we "settled" for a 3rd rate CB, Henry.

Hum?

Guy was brought in to compete to start. He is in no position to command a starting job. Heck - he only made $670K last year.

He saw $5M SB and said Yes sir to JJ.

I have to admit I am somewhat puzzled by the lack of movement from the Cowboys. We have some of the most cap room and we sit around waiting for bargains. We signed a back up Olineman who will be asked to start. Big deal, we had that last year.

We need a kicker in the worst way and the best of the best is out there but nothing. Then we watch three other very good kickers get singed.

We need another LB and we sit around like they are going to just fall into our laps. I think the gang at the Ranch could be a little more proactive.

Now, with all of that being said, I have to believe that Jerry and Bill have a plan but for love or money, I can't figure out what it is.

I, however am not willing to call our season a bust after two days of free agency. I think that's a bit premature.

Don't mean to harp on your thread too much, but why does everyone think that we need to run out and start snatching up players like old blue haired women at an after thanksgiving day sale??! Has it ever occurred to folks that the team may not have wanted the players that other teams got?? We went from talking about Fabini and Sowell to posting threads crying over the foreskins signing Randel el. Give me a break!! I've never seen such a knee jerk reaction over something before. That's exactly what you guys sound like: little old women who fight over items at a after thanksgiving day sale!!!:laugh2: If you'll take a breath and remember how well the team played prior to the O-line meltdown, then tell us why would the team NEED to grab all these 2nd and 3rd rate players at positions other than what was broken. Reminds me of a syaing my Dad always told me: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Improving is one thing, tinkering is another. What most of the chicken littles are suggesting is just tinkering. Relax and enjoy FA and when some of these outrageous signings are on injured reserve or don't improve the overall outcome of their season, then think of how great the signings were.

Looks like we are hoping to add depth to the team now instead of going for starters per say? Hopefully JJ and BP know what they are doing.
