I wanted to look at what the LA Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles had to spend to move up in 2016 draft to obtain their mediocre (so far) qbs. LA traded six picks for Geoff. One number one, two number twos, and their third round pick in 2016. The Titans also got LA number one and third round picks in 2017. The Titans had to give Rams some lower round picks in 2016.
Philadelphia gave up their first , third and fourth picks in 2016. They also traded their number one pick in 2017 and their number two round pick in 2018. The Eagles got Wentz and a conditional fifth that could become a fourth in 2017 draft.
The Dallas Cowboys picked Dak Prescott with pick number 135 in the fourth round. That was a compensatory pick for a free agent that we lost. I have to pinch myself to see how fortunate we were to use a late fourth round pick for our next franchise quarterback who also happens to be the best rookie quarterback in the entire 2016 class. Make no mistake if Dak had not worked out we would have to spend a ton of quality draft picks to try and move up for a shot at a franchise quarterback. Now we can use those precious picks to fill other needs on our team. I would like to see most of those going on the defensive side of the ball. If we have a quality draft in 2017 look out NFL. Would anyone like to use the word dynasty for what were building here in North Texas? Go Cowboys

When it's all said and done there's a good chance we'll come out of this draft with the 3 best players from it. Without having to trade any other picks. It's truly amazing. I'm talking about Jaylon Smith as the 3rd guy by the way.

If Dak hadn't worked out, we wouldn't have to spend draft picks to move up. We'd be at/near the top of the draft. No Romo, and no Kellen Moore, means we'd be picking top 3 in the draft. But, still, getting a franchise qb in the 4th rd ($cheap) will allow us to be active in FA, and dedicate our high picks for impact defenders. Dak has fast-tracked this franchise forward by 5 years easily.

Dak was a tremendous steal, I agree, but the groundwork for his success has been laid over the last few years, by building the OL and other pieces around him. QBs can be broken by bad situations. Goff is stuck on a bad team with a horrendous coaching staff and offensive philosophy: it wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be a bust through no fault of his own. Wentz was always a project, coming from a small school with only two years starting experience. He's been thrown in earlier than he probably should have, but has played reasonably given the situation. It'll be a couple years before we can really evaluate him.

Dak is in a perfect situation to reach his ceiling. I'm excited to see what that is. But I'm also aware that there's at least a chance that he turns out to be more Nick Foles than Russell Wilson. The Cowboys have him essentially for free to figure out what he is, which is incredible. The trick is to stay clear-eyed about exactly what we have when it comes time to extend him.

To think, this was the brain trust of one, Jason Garrett, at the burial ceremony for an offensive line at the time of the NFL lockout season. Go figure on a good game plan...and what it develops, given time.

Add in the effects of Stephen Jones and a credible cap philosophy, demanding the remake of a quality scout department.

Okay, let's call it Fate then.

Fates Warning !!!

There's a chance. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a good chance. For one, Joey Bosa is playing pretty well. Two, even if Jaylon makes it back, there's no guarantee he makes it all the way back. And even if he makes it all the way back, there's no guarantee he'd have been a top-3 player in this draft. He might turn in a year like Myles Jack is turning in for the Jags, for example.

Again, I believe in what we have. We have Dak, our team is 11-1. Whether it's luck, or fate, or brains, who cares?

I don't. But we didn't steal him away from anyone. Other teams stole the QBs we were targeting and we backed our way into a gem. It works that way sometimes.

Good post. Some people may disagree but the 2015 season was more an aberration than what it should have been. The roster was hit with key injuries on both sides of the ball.

Even so, backup quarterback play wasn't the only reason why the wins plummeted last season. Players' performance levels were too inconsistent from game-to-game. Some of that blame should be laid at the feet of coaching but not all of it. Individual players (in addition to the playmakers) have really stepped up this year.

In my opinion, the effort demonstrated by the roster has been one unquestionable testament of good coaching despite inconsistency seen sporadically over the past few years. It's one of the tangibles that has made 2016 such a wonderful success (so far).
