since we covered the busts lets now look at the late finds:

QB: Roger Staubach (10th round 1964), the HOF all time great QB was a futute pick who took the team to 4 superbowls winning 2.

RB: Don Perkins (FA in 1961) was a 6 time pro bowler and led the team in rushing for the same period. Later moved to full back.

FB: Walt Garrison (5th 1966), was a solid starter for 8 or 9 years. Ron Springs (5th 1979) deserves honorable mention, was more of a HB, was great running the screen as a receiving FB.

WR: Drew Pearson (FA 1973) no need for stats for Mr. Clutch.

WR: Bob Hayes (7th 1964) changed the way defenses play in the NFL.

TE: Jay Saldi (FA 1976) was a reliable back up for 7 seasons.

OT: Rayfield Wright (7th 1967) HOF and a beast of a RT.

OT: Mark Tuinei (FA 1983) originally a DT was Troy Aikman LT for 3 superbowls. Nasty run blocker.

OG: Nate Newton (FA 1986) went to numerous probowls and started on 3 Super Bowl Teams.

C: Dave Manders (FA 1964) was a superbowl starter twice.

OG: Blaine Nye (5th 1969) pro bowler and superbowl starter 3 times.

DE: Larry Cole (16th 1968) played 13 years and was a very good pass rusher overshadowed by bigger names.

DE: George Andrie (6th 1962) superbowl starter and played for 11 years.

DT: Leon Lett (7th 1991) Played in 3 superbowl starting in our last one in 1995. Best remembered for bloopers was a great inside passrusher.

DT: Chad Hennings (11th 1988) the last of Tex Schramm future picks played for 9 years and started alongside Leon Lett in the 1995 superbowl team.

OLB: DD Lewis (6th round 1966) played for 13 seasons and started on 3 of Tom Landry's superbowl teams and played in all 5 of them.

OLB: Dave Edwards (FA 1962) played for 13 years and started in 2 super bowls. Considered the unsung hero of the Doomsday Defense.

LCB: Everson Walls (FA 1981) led the league in ints for 3 years and was all pro in 82, 83 & 85.

RCB: Cornell Green (FA 1962) former basketball player started since his rookie year and played for 13 seasons going to the probowl as a CB and S. Was considered the best corner in the league in the late sixties

Nickle Corner: Larry Brown (12th 1991) started since his rookie year was named MVP in Super Bowl XXX.

SS: Cliff Harris (FA 1970) 6 time probowler was the hardest hitters in the league until he retired in 1979. Started in 5 superbowls

That's really an amazing list.

No other franchise has hit on more late-round picks, future picks, and undrafted free agents.

I didn't see a MLB on the list and this is the best I can do:

Middle Linebacker Eugene Lockhart (6th 1984) - played a decent amount of time and had 222 tackles in 1989.

Larry Cole was very underrated due to the big name stars on the Dline....but he was very effective. Not bad for a 16th rounder.

Herschel Walker in the 5th round in 1985. Of course, his biggest contribution to the Cowboys was when he was traded and the Team of the '90's was built.

He's still young, but Romo being an undrafted rookie free agent isn't bad.

Still too early in his career to tell for sure however.

Also: I always hated losing Brock Marion.

Don't forget undrafted free agent Michael Downs. He was a solid safety for several seasons in the 1980s. He had a great year in 1984 and was on the AP all-pro team.

Hey, Bill Bates people. Undrafted, the reason a place was made on Pro Bowl teams for Special Teams standouts.

I was glad when he left...people dont remember he went 2+ yrs as a starter without an interception at one point...and it wasnt like he was surrounded by scrubs

he also had a small but substantial role in us not winning that 3rd staright super bowl...in 1994 Troy Aikman was leading the league in pasing through 9 games, Brock Marion blew a play at practice and blitzed through and got too close to the QB, Aikman hit his hand hard on Marion's helmet and messed it up a couple days before the Niners game and the result was Aikman's worst game of the season to-date...losing that game ultimately cost us home field advantage..we lost 21-14

Herschel Walker made a big impact on Dallas more ways than one.

I would think the fact that he's been to two Pro Bowls pretty much puts him on that list.

I remember watching that draft, hoping they would take a late round flyer on him. I think that he was a fourth or fifth round pick.

another one that deserves honorable mention is:

Jethro Pugh (11th 1965) anchored the left side of the DT for 14 years alongside Bob Lilly.

Yeah, Larry Cole was a very fine player. One of my all time favorite Cowboys personalities.

Tom Landry noted that Larry Cole was a natural Defensive Tackle who was forced, due to team personnel, to play most of his career at Defensive End. Landry's point was that Cole performed unusually well given that Cole was usually playing out of position (until late in his career, when he moved inside).
