This is why I really don't even watch the news at all. Somewhere along the way they went from strictly reporting the news to fabricating things or pushing stories to fit an agenda.

Seriously,

This is a big deal if you believe what they are telling to begin with,

How's the song go, "when you own the information, you can bend it all you want"

Does he deserve to lose $5 mil over this. No.
Does he deserve 6 month suspension. No.

He embellished. Like 99% of the world does.
Yeah yeah, he is a newsman and he is held to a higher standard.... That's IF you believe them to even with, I don't.

99% of the world doesnt work in fron of a camera delivering the news.

For a man like Brian Williams and the importance of his role to the media, his credibility is/was at stake. An "embellishment" from Joe Blow working for the local weekly probably wouldn't affect him as much. But the believability factor and his ability to do his in-the-field job in the future matters alot. NBC had to do what they did, because if they didn't, then you'll have all sorts of folks coming out of the woodworks with more examples of his "embellishments".

Brian Williams is Joe Blow to me.

They all embellish. Just haven't got caught in it yet.

It's like a politician, if you want to bail them for something ... It's there. Skeleton/scandal etc.

Your opinion, while entitled, doesn't have anything to do with what's going on with Brian Williams. lol

This is not a, "Well, everybody does it" type story. Brian Williams is the face of NBC Nightly News and not just Joe Blow doing the local media circuit in Podunk town, USA. The consequences for his actions should absolutely be as harsh as they are.

Key is you don't believe them to begin but as a news person it is important that they are honest when reporting news story to the public. Founders thought it was important enough to protect the freedom of the press I think the press should be held to those high standards. I think too often those in the news want to be part of the story or report a story based on their personal views when really the only things they should be giving the public is both sides of the facts and allow the public to make up their own minds on how they feel about it

i also think it's to get more viewers and attention. it's simply human nature to get lost in a whinefest of some sorts, so if they can start one, people will dive in and keep the hits coming.

back when we still used dial up to connect, my brother was having a hard time with someone who wouldn't leave him alone. so i said "dude, just go into an alternative lifestyle newsgroup and make some post about FREE PHONE SEX - 111-111-1111 (his cell) and then in the body, make some derogatory remark to those who frequent the group. you never even have to read the thread after that to know it will be a flame fest and while the body of the message may change, very seldom do people change the subject so what you want people to see will always be in the foreground.

guy's phone was shut off in a few hours.

people are just like that and easy to "lead". rile 'em up and let 'em go. you never have to care why they get mad, how they get mad, or even how they deal with it. you only have to get traffic from it.

welcome to todays media.

also, he's not the only one to lie about coming under fire like that. just the only one to have to pay for it in this manner. if his actions are wrong, then i get lost as to why it's ok for someone to do it but not another.

You see the diff in what he posted and how he phrased his sentence vs what your sentence was and the details you provided? Based on the rules of CZ, now do you know why your post was deleted?

Now if you want to carry on this convo, please hit me on PM, don't respond to the post.
