I saw him on something at a NY hockey game having a good time.

Not sure if that was pre-suspension or not though.

I would think if NBC plugs someone in there that gets good ratings they might just let that person stay.

Pay off Brian or however they do that.

I agree the media has become no better than the National Enquirer a group the new media looked down on at one time now they are the same. People in the media also continue to make themselves part of the story to create their own fame and new stories are often tilted to make the view think as they do on a given topic. However I think if you want change the change comes from the public by holding them accountable and calling them out

Let's face it, We are a nation of followers. There will never be the change you are looking from the public.

The Kardascians, while I give them many kudos.... there is no way they should famous and rich simply by existing. Blame the public.

I agree with you but I don't give up that easy and will continue to encourage others not to give up.

As someone who worked with the man for two years, this is very surprising to me. I never saw this aspect to his personality at all.

I do believe that his presence on comedy programs and his desire to be the most funny, engaging and interesting person in the room played a huge role in this, and it should have been monitored ahead of time.

The rank and file at NBC are really upset about this, and very angry at him for tarnishing their reputations by his actions. Clearly it will be very difficult for him to return to the chair, and based on what they are investigating, I don't think there's a chance in hell that he resumes his role as the anchor for NBC Nightly News.

What isn't happening, and should, is figuring out why the senior execs at NBC News and NBC Universal, namely former execs Andy Lack, Neal Shapiro, Steve Capus, Jeff Zucker and Bob Wright, and present execs Deborah Turness, Pat Fili-Krushel and Steve Burke did NOTHING to reign this nonsense in prior to it reaching critical mass. They knew of these issues, and ignored them because they didn't appear in the newscast. Now, they are on the hook for $45 million (the remainder of his contract), and likely do not have a way out of it without paying him to leave. They collectively screwed the news organization, and it's a real shame - there's some very good and talented people working there.

the problem is people are quick to reply to someone being stupid, telling a lie, anything that "busts" them and is negative. they can't wait to pour it on. it's like ensuring you're a part of the latest fad and until that mindset changes, news won't.

driven by hits so they will do what it takes to get them.

if you write a solid story about something without baiting in it, and it's longer than 3-4 paragraphs, most people won't bother to read it much less react and respond to give you the attention the media and everyone else is out for.

cnn.com - it's more advertising than news now.
Samsung - they're not finding ways to insert ads into your own movie collection that you stream to their tv. ripped your dvd's to watch via streaming media? well now Samsung plops commercials into your private collection. they're also recording your conversations in the living room, but that's another story.

simply put, advertisers are paying for such premium locations because we've becoming immune to ads as it is. I can sing "I ain't got no use for boring" and see the muppets in my head but I can't tell you for sure what car company did it. I also hate to think that given the lead Samsung has taken, there will come a day when you buy a new dishwasher, they tout the high res screen for digital input.

then you must watch a TIDE commercial or something before the door will open. watch it twice to get your clothes out.

but that's what is paying for everything and as long as that money is waved, people will dance. advertisers pay news sites for hits to their ads, so they only way they get paid is to get hits. how much traffic can a good controversy pull to a site? how much $ is that now? as long as people are willing for ads people will find new and better ways to shove it on us. for now, most sites get $ per hit, so who cares what they say and report. odds are the truth is not financially feasible.

so this is what we get.

Mr. Williams does seem to be a very bright engaging guy. I don't know his background but presume he is highly educated & has an impressive resume.

I'm only guessing as time passes & if he lost his NBC job he would not be out of work for very long.

His apology seemed sincere to me. I cannot imagine he'd do anything like that again.

As Corso would say, .. "not so fast my friend."

After high school Williams attended Brookdale Community College, after which he transferred to The Catholic University of America, and then The George Washington University. He did not graduate, and instead interned with the administration of President Jimmy Carter. He now calls leaving college one of his "great regrets". Williams completed a total of 18 college credits.

But he still felt qualified to make fun of one of our presidents who had two ivy league degrees.

that's what drives people today - making fun of a known celeb. when the tables turn, it seriously backfires. like this time.

rarely do people call out those "bullying" like this, they call it fair cause no one likes XYZ guy.

As was mentioned above, he didn't graduate college. He is intelligent and engaging, but has lost the most important thing for a person who repeatedly expressed his reverence for Walter Cronkite - credibility.

In terms of being out of work for a period of time, it would be hard to gauge that. Dan Rather has been completely on the fringes after his incorrect reporting on George W. Bush. Not sure how all of this would turn out, but, hearing what I am hearing from reports, I can't see him returning to NBC Nightly News.

Great insight. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Hope he saved his millions!

Just think. He is in a position to lose $5 million? I am guessing he has much more..

He "mis-remembered" lol .... Someone used that before... Who was it?

Just another 'news reader' trying to assert himself INTO the story... an egotist trying to boost his own star-power. Journalism is all but dead - and Cronkite is rolling over in his grave.

If you think all journalists don't do this, you guys are mistaken

What you see on American TV is not news it is entertainment. When it becomes about ratings then you have to sink to the lowest common denominator, in this case it is Fox News and MSNBC where any person with half a brain can't watch them without throwing up but I see these as the go to channels all over, in airports, bars, hospitals etc. People watch this stuff and actually believe what these anchors are saying it true.

IMO he pissed off the wrong people and so suddenly stuff that he did 10-12 years back is coming out and people are piling on
