Seems like we're interested but as evident by the Peppers situation, may not mean much.

I'd love to have him for his talent and the fact that he just looks like a Dallas Cowboy.

If we can snag Melton and Allen...

A front 4 of Allen, Melton, Donald/Nix/Jerrnigan, and Selvie is quite okay with me.

Not enough room under the cap to sign Melton and Allen...unless some Carr restructuring takes place.

Allen and Melton would be a great haul from the situation we were in. Be good now and draft Allen's replacement. Hard to imagine they could swing both and as much as I would like that I don't want then screwing up the future cap by restructuring Carr.

Well, I guess he'd fit right in with our current stable of DL then.

Why bring in an old high price vet? Dallas isnt going to be a contender for the next 2 seasons. Just go young.

I share your lack of optimism...

However, I dont think that means we stop trying to get better. We have a $100 million QB nearing the twilight of his career...it doesn't sit well with me that we just disregard the next few seasons in hopes that we'll be better in a few years.

I love romo but there was no point In giving him that contract. By the time they get a decent team together romo will be gone.

The reason Allen left the Vikings was to chase a ring so I doubt he'd want to come here.

I don't think it's likely because other than Carr the only guys they've been signing are lunch pale types since Garrett became HC. It's been a pretty clear pattern but who knows.

I want to see youth across the front 7. If Allen wasn't such a high priced player, he would be a good infusion of veteran leadership...... But he should get what Peppers got easy....... move along.

Come on draft!

There's no reason to worry about Brandon Carr's contract.

If it's left alone, the team can release Carr next year with a post June 1st designation and recoup his $8M base salary at that time.

If Carr gets restructured, the team will still be able to use the June release next year if they decide it's time to flush the contract.

Carr's 2015 cap number would be higher and the potential dead money would be, too, but it would still result in the same $8M savings after June 1st.

And with a restructure, Dallas would save less in 2016 when the rest of the dead money comes due. It'd be $4.6905M instead of $6.383M, but it's still hefty savings.

The same holds true with Jason Witten.

The Cowboys are sitting on over $8M in potential extra cap room right now with these two players and there is no downside to using it.

Why are so many penciling Melton in?

I liked him but doesn't sound like he fits the mold of role model.

IF, and its a huge IF, they could pull this off they could most likely improve the production of the DL and build for the future at the same time with a mix of young and old. It all depends on the Benji's.

I would absolutely love this. It would make our draft strategy a lot easier...

DT in the first, Safety in the second, QB or WR in the third.

This is just not true
It is a myth perpetuated by CZ homers because they want a convenient excuse in the off season after another mediocre 7-9 or 8-8 season so they can say that it is a rebuilding defense and we will be better next year

If we spend our money wisely and draft well, we can compete this year

If you have followed posts by Xwalker you know that we can free more money if we want but we don't want to splurge, so

FA:
Melton (3t DT )
Chris Clemons (starting FS )

Draft:

Rd 1: Jernigan or hagemann (starting 1t DT) after trade down to mid 20s
Rd2: Scott Crichton (de)
Rd3a: Marcus smith (de)
Rd 3b: Brandon Thomas or botino or turner (starting OG )
Rd 4: caraun Reid (rotational DT)
Rd 5: Ben Gardner (de)
Rest BPA

Still have 6 picks in rd 7 and several rotational caliber players on the board

This is possibly the best draft EVER

We can get very good players if we have a plan and evaluate properly

Unfortunately that is a tall ask from accomplished football idiots like the joneses and garrett

I would still like us to add a WR either through free agency or the draft.

Paul Richardson from Colorado in the third would make a lot of sense. As good as Dez is, I just don't trust our receivers.
