I would still like us to add a WR either through free agency or the draft.

Paul Richardson from Colorado in the third would make a lot of sense. As good as Dez is, I just don't trust our receivers.

WR is one of the deepest positions in this draft
You could get a pretty good WR like Jeff Janis in the 5th

Why bring in an old high price vet? Dallas isnt going to be a contender for the next 2 seasons. Just go young.

They were 1 win away from getting in with a horrible HC, the worst defense in Cowboys history that played 19 different lineman. We're we going to win the SB? Hell no, but we can compete in this watered down league.

I'm not in to watching 3-5 win teams. Now 8-8 sucks, but at least we make it interesting.

Ya we make It interesting but being a dallas fan is just like being a browns fan. Youre excited when football starts but you know your team has no shot at the superbowl. Been like that ever since 1996 except for one season. Its not going to change soon.

we really cant compete though. Not with the the good teams. We usually get blown out. I expect 4-5 blowout losses next season also.

This is just not true
It is a myth perpetuated by CZ homers because they want a convenient excuse in the off season after another mediocre 7-9 or 8-8 season so they can say that it is a rebuilding defense and we will be better next year

If we spend our money wisely and draft well, we can compete this year

If you have followed posts by Xwalker you know that we can free more money if we want but we don't want to splurge, so

FA:
Melton (3t DT )
Chris Clemons (starting FS )

Draft:

Rd 1: Jernigan or hagemann (starting 1t DT) after trade down to mid 20s
Rd2: Scott Crichton (de)
Rd3a: Marcus smith (de)
Rd 3b: Brandon Thomas or botino or turner (starting OG )
Rd 4: caraun Reid (rotational DT)
Rd 5: Ben Gardner (de)
Rest BPA

Still have 6 picks in rd 7 and several rotational caliber players on the board

This is possibly the best draft EVER

We can get very good players if we have a plan and evaluate properly

Unfortunately that is a tall ask from accomplished football idiots like the joneses and garrett

Agreed.

The Cowboys have a chance to compete.

Still have an opportunity to pick up a couple FA's who would improve the defense.

Obviously a good draft is mandatory.

And who knows how injuries are going to play out in the division? The Cowboys have had more than their share. The Eagles were virtually injury free. That trend won't necessarily continue in '14.

I would absolutely love this. It would make our draft strategy a lot easier...

DT in the first, Safety in the second, QB or WR in the third.

AND, it would alleviate some of the short term pain most likely.

So let me see if I understand this correctly. We were 1 win away from getting in WITH a "horrible HC," and the "worst defense" in team history that played 19 different DL?

If the HC is so horrible how did he get a team with the worst DEE 1 win away?

Is the rest of the roster so stacked that with a good or great HC last year we may have won 10-12 games even with the worst DEE?

Im just curious how such a horrible HC could get such a horrible defense to still come down to the last game of the season for a win or go home game? An elimination game? This horrible HC had his horrible team playing a game that mattered most at the end of the season.

Please explain and enlighten.

Thanks

How many teams have blown us out? Chicago? Who else? Look I agree what your saying. I hate JG and want him fired yesterday, but I want to be entertained as well. As long as Romo can play 16 games and we stay healthy on offense we will always be in games.

Sure. Tony Romo and company in spite of the red headed moron. He's covered up so much for that buffoon for years. Had we had a a real HC we would have won more because he would have never let the roster get so bare, and certainly wouldn't have cost us games such as GB and Detroit.

My point is I root for the cowboys whether we have a lousy HC or not. I cannot control what Jerry does, but I can certainly complain about the redhead that has absolutely no integrity and is a back stabber.

Hell, at least Campo had an excuse, he never had a QB or any talent.

IF, and its a huge IF, they could pull this off they could most likely improve the production of the DL and build for the future at the same time with a mix of young and old. It all depends on the Benji's.

It doesn't seem likely and I ate a spoonfull of salt reading it but joining Marinelli to play for the Cowboys probably sounds good to someone like Allen, I don't know much about the other guys but he's only had a couple years where his team had a decent QB.

I share your lack of optimism...

However, I dont think that means we stop trying to get better. We have a $100 million QB nearing the twilight of his career...it doesn't sit well with me that we just disregard the next few seasons in hopes that we'll be better in a few years.

It is not a matter of disregarding the next few years. It is wise to invest in younger players with the hopes that they develop Into a solid team in the next couple of years. This team is not gonna get over the hump by investing in high priced older players. If anything, it will result in the team being in cap hell due signing these overpriced vets. They are just getting out from under these type of contracts and players. There is no need to repeat the same mistakes again.

Seattle, Indy, Chicago, no, sf. Not all may be blow outs but I see all losses for sure.

Indy isn't blowing anybody out, now the others if we don't develop a Dline, possibly. Teams just really don't get blown out in this league especially if they have a QB.

This is truth.

We are not contending but rebuilding.

There are more big changes coming the next 2 years.

We need to save cap, draft well and be very selective with what deals get handed out.

Economically we are still not in good shape..

and won't be until Romo's career is over or the team let's him go.

Thats the sad truth then dallas will spend years before they get a decent qb again.

Haha who doesn't love Jared Allen? He'd be a great guy to come in on a "3-year" deal (that's set up for him to be released in a year or two with minimal cap hit), and teach the youth movement that's inevitable on the DL the attitude you need to play football.

Problem is, he wants to get paid and we're not going to do it. Nor should we. It'd be pretty sweet seeing him in Cowboys uni though.

Yep ... do you really want a player with money as the primary focus? If you can get him within reason yes, but if you have to start cutting and restructuring then NO. Sadly, the Cowboys just might have to take the lick of a bad season, followed by higher draft status and better cap space in 2015. Bridging only puts people in the seats but the team won't really go anywhere.

I'm not slamming Romo.

Just saying.

His deal was done assuming he had a contending team to support him.

But that's just not going to happen I don't think b/w the releasing of key players and his injuries.

So we can still draft and prepare a good QB.

But I think a meaningful pursuit to rebuild the position once alot of the rest of the team has been made will occur.

Right now they just want a backup and a 3rd string guy to ease into the season with.

If Melton signs with Seattle(likely) we should pursue Allen. Draft Donald, Murphy, and Martin rds 1-3 and we have ourselves a good rotation!
