Discussion on “talking Cowboys” and other Podcast , about what part of the team still needs attention. They Talked about OT, CB, DT etc.
What about off the ball LBs. no Dog in that room. I couldnt tell you whos starting at Sam, Mile or Will. To me thats the glaring weakness on this team. If the DTs do play better, who can we count on to plug the gaps, so safety are not making so many tackles down field.

LB is a wait and see, let the ones we've brought in work and go from there. Theve addressed it brought in depth at fa and trade drafted a guy let me work and develop under Flus.
Yeah I think that's about where they're at, let's see what these guys have that we brought in, then go from there. Probably a position that has a lot of depth right now compared to others

I dont know if I would say the LB group is a bad one, but they havent done that group much of a favor by not addressing the run game along the front four better. I mean you go get a guy like Kenneth Murray, I would think that you would invest in some true run pluggers up front to let him use that athletic ability to run free. Sanborn can be more of that downhill hole filler type of LB that can cover up some of the issues up front, but the concerns about him being able to play 3 downs is legitimate. Itll be interesting to see if anyone can truly step up and be a full time starter among the group, or if its a massive rotation at LB.

OT is also a wait and see.

DT is still the glaring problem.

Jay, let's look at it like this, reports of Eze dropping into coverage and also carrying potential receivers down field could indicate him playing SAM. D-Eze is backing up Parsons, so Parsons could be SAM in base defense. Then you have a rotation of Murray, Liufau, and Sanborn to play Mike n Will. Throw in Overshown towards the end of the season and it's not a bad looking group on paper.

To me it kinda boils down to whether ya think Sanborn and Murray are good starter quality or ya dont.

And that Liufau hopefully takes a nice 2nd year leap.

Overshown ain't til later in the season.
James is a project.
Clark spells some snaps as depth most likely.

That's bout it.

When we teams keep running on us, we will not need a nickle CB.
Well shoot. Just cut entire secondary them who needs em. Teams apparently regularly rush for 1000 yards a game against us. Cut all pass rushers won't need em no one ever passed in a pass first league against the Cowboys. Nare a pass shall be thrown

Teams will sit and and start extra runners cause the first 3 will be worn from doing uabaited sprints up and down the field.

I thought Barkley had a great year running for 2,005 yards. Then I seen our Defense gave up 2,331 yards.

And the year before they were 5th in league in rushing yards given up.

You make it sound like Barkley got all 2000 yards against us when in fact he had 45 carries, 233 rushing yards, averaging approximately 116.5 yards per game against the Cowboys in 2024.

I'm not saying run d doesn't need help, because it clearly does. I'm saying that you and others make it sound like it didn't exist at all.

Here is an interesting factoid

2023 Approximately 115.6 YPG league average
2024 Approximately 121.4 YPG league average

Seems across the board run D was worse than other years.

So yes, even if Dallas ranked 29th again vs run they would need a Nickel CB, as 1. In Flus D the Nickel has to be able to play run. 2. Despite rushing yards being up league wide, passing yards still exceed rushing yards.

Dallas lacks a stud at LB. Micah is a DE that plays LB on occasion and Big O can't stay healthy to be counted on. They have guys who have shown a little promise but nothing substantial yet.

LBs are average to below average. Overshown injured, not returning until mid season. does anybody expect him to be any good coming off another Major knee injury? and when he played he was good, not great. the rest sucked. now we threw people at the problem a lot of whom on one year contracts, because we have no idea how they are so we didn't want to committ long term. that should tell you enough. this is probably one of the worst put together LB groups with the cowboys ever.

Interior Defensive Line and Linebackers will be tested early and often.....some thought the Arizona game last year was an anomaly. It wasn't.

I dont see the PROVEN roster additions needed to see a major improvement

All RB's combined had a better year than Barkley against us. Let that sink in.

When you add an extra game, teams rush for more yards, compared to different years.

2 areas need attention pronto. DT and CB. We need a vet CB to come in here to be a bridge player for a year til we get Diggs back or until a guy on the roster develops. It's a no brainer to go sign Gilmore. No reason to wait .As far as DT, we need a vet there too. For quality insurance until a youngster proves they can be relied on.

My comparison was to 2023. Are you suggesting 2024 had one more game than 2023?

Let what sink in? That last we we struggled stopping the run? Great saunknin like an anchor into soft marshmallow fluff.

2023 we were 5th in league against the run and the same Barkley your slobbering over the year prior in 2023 rushed for a grand 68.71 yards per game.

Almost suggests it's more than just him eh?

Still doesn't negate your silly assertion that teams run at will and we don't need at Nickel CB.

IMO the front office is still counting on Overshown to a certain degree as a possible fixture for the LB spot. So, IF, he returns back to normal(26?), they just need a competent LB for the other LB spot.
We got Sanborn who is an average LB when they need 3 on the field.
Then you got Liufau who will be entering year 2 for a bigger role potentially.
Not high on Clark turning the corner, but it is year 4 for him.
Murray should get some snaps too for 2025.
James could get some snaps depending on how ready he is.

Odds are there will be no stud for 2025. But if they can get some improvement from Liufau, and guys like Sanborn and Murray can excel in the packages they are placed into then hopefully it won't be a big weakness.
