What about letting Steele and Guyton battle it out for the starting RT spot?

If you plan to move Guyton to the right side, you cut Steele because you cannot pay that salary on a backup.
Jerry never should have given Steele the big contract that he did. That just made things difficult. He might be reluctant to deal with the loss that cutting him would entail. Understandably so, imho. It appears we always insist upon painting ourselves into a corner. The choices left are a tad scary. Guyton acquitted himself well at RT in college; maybe he'll find success there again. H-m-m.

Yep,
I'm a supporter of Tyler Smith to LT, and then, after signing him of course, Hoffman to either OC or one of the guards.
And then as the OP suggests, but not only Steele and Guyton competing in TC for the RT position, but the other 2 spots being open competition as well.
The cream will rise to the top from there.
Let's see if Riley can stand behind his reputation and really coach these guys up into a cohesive unit.
Result: excellent starting 5 and a very decent backup rotation.

W/ a lefthanded Qb. Guyton was the blindside protector in college. He just needs to get up on his technique, and will most likely be a quality OLT.

Bad idea. Tyler is a great OG, and a subpar OLT.

I know, I know, Jerry had everyone convinced that Tyler was the OLT of the future, and everyone is still hanging on to that. Tyler was never going to be a high quality OLT, doesn't have the skillset.

What about letting these two battle it out, hoping these new coaches can get something out of the both of these players. Who wins the spot, hoping they don't just give it to Steele because he's owed more money! Please give your thoughts
Guy was a rookie 1st rounder that everyone knew was raw. He should be given until after his 2nd yr before being moved. Players NEED TIME to develop.

Can we just stop with trying to make our established Pro Bowl guard move to Tackle?
