What about our Special Teams?

We must hope some of the middle and late round picks on this roster turn into ST monsters. Our punt coverage gunners have been mediocre or worse and it hurts an underrated portion of a key stat- field position.
We did get some dogs. I expect better performance. Just wish we had new and younger ST coach.

I saved and wanted to looped around to this post after pre-season games.

Christian Parker has rightly gotten a lot of attention but Nick Sorenson's guys will have a huge impact on the defense.

in preseason games, I saw the punt & kick coverage squads as middle of the pack/average/so-so

Hoping Sorenson improves things.

Nobody tends to think about this unit of our team, until something happens. I was looking around at google and pulled up some info about our units of Special Teams in 2025

The Dallas Cowboys' special teams were generally considered a below-average and sloppy unit in 2025, largely propped up by the elite accuracy of kicker Brandon Aubrey. The unit was the second-most penalized in the NFL on special teams, had poor coverage, and struggled with a drop-off in punt returns.

A breakdown of the 2025 special teams units:
  • Placekicking: Brandon Aubrey remained a reliable "cheat code," providing consistent field-goal accuracy to secure points in tight games. [1]
  • Punting & Coverage: Punter Brian Anger had a solid year, averaging 48.6 yards per punt with zero touchbacks. However, the coverage units struggled, often leading to poor starting field position.
  • Return Game: KaVontae Turpin handled kick returns, setting a league-high with 69 returns for 1,814 yards, but his punt return average plummeted from 10.4 to 5.5 yards per attempt. [1]
  • Discipline: Under first-year coordinator Nick Sorensen, the unit was heavily penalized and suffered from missed tackles. The loss of special teams ace C.J. Goodwin also took a toll on the coverage units
