What about Ronde Barber as a coach?

He is calling it quits after 16 NFL seasons, I wonder if we could bring him in as a secondary coach with coach Kiffin and coach Marinelli. Would we want him in Dallas and would he take a spot? Perhaps he just wants to retire and enjoy his time off, but he does have the knowledge of the Tampa 2 defense.

Lets get Ray Lewis to coach the Linebackers too.

Who else just retired? Maybe we can get Tony Gonzalez in here next year..

Ronde would most likely only coach with the Bucs. His former team.

If he were interested in becoming a coach, I'd have no qualms with bringing him in as an assistant DBs coach.

Cant' imagine he would be interested.

If he wanted to be around the game, and get paid much more than an assistant coach, he would have just played this year.
.

A smart, conservative guy like Barber who has been very well paid for 16 years can almost certainly find more fun things to do with his time--at least in his first year of retirement.

You never know about a person's aspirations though. Maybe he aspires to coach some day.

I don't know if he wants to coach but he would be very knowledgable of the Tampa 2.

Of all the great players it's rare that they go into coaching simply because of the work ethic and hours involved. Think about the time and sacrifice that you've put in as a player for over a decade and the toll that has taken on your body. You've got a family, generational money in the bank and then you decide you're going to spend 20 hours a day at the practice facility?

I wouldn't...unless a few years after I retired I got the bug and wanted to be around the game but that has to be an awful big bug.

Anthony McFarland was on Sirius NFL w/Rich Gannon and predicted Barber would either help Kiffin in Dallas or Tampa over the summer a bit but would not be a coach. McFarland seems to know Barber quite well.

I guess Jason Garrett is the exception.

Garrett, great player, no. Good coach? Do I have to answer that?

There was talk on the NFL Network's NFL AM show this morning that he would go the way of his brother and go for a TV gig. I would be extremely happy to see Mr. 40/20 in Consultation role with the Cowboys coaching staff.

No no no. See, he might send Tiki instead and the staff wouldn't know and he'd be telling the secondary "Keep that ball tucked up high like Coach Cough...er *cough cough* ...I mean Coach Gruden taught me" or "Follow your blockers" or "Doesn't Strahan have a really big weird head?".

Wouldn't work.

When I was in high school my two best friends were twins. They used to wear the same clothes and go to each others' classes. Nobody could tell. That would be hilarious.

Another poster has already mentioned that he would gravitate towards the Bucs if he wanted to coach, but if they could have him come on for a few days to talk to the dbs then they could only be better off for it.
