What am I missing on Jordan Willis?

This guy has elite production, measurables, was a star during Senior Bowl week, high character... I don't get why he's not viewed as a 1st Round Lock type pick. I have him firmly above guys like Charles Harris and Carl Lawson

From what I have read does not have a counter move once his initial move gets blocked. I have always liked him and was hoping he would be under the radar guy that we could get in the 3rd but that is highly unlikely now.

People went crazy over his workout at the Combine.

That is it.

Just watch his games and see where he leaves plays on the field because he struggles to bend and close on the QB.

If ever there was a guy that had the natural ability, durability, character and desire that is worthy of being coached up by a defensive line coach that could teach some technique and moves Willis is it!

Are we the right fit? Can we teach the moves and techniques needed for Willis to take the next step? I don't know.

Definitely plays stiff, his play on the field doesn't match those incredible workout #'s he put up,

I won't disagree on him over Harris, Takk and Lawson

That elite athleticism absolutely does not show up when you watch him. That's why most everyone was shocked at how he blew away the tests.

Watch this guy become an all pro.

Could be a Demarcus Ware type player, similar intangibles and better measurables. Ware's tape showed his crazy bend tho so potential was more apparent. For all Willis' "flaws" he still, got job done at high level and the kid has lots of room to improve. High 2nd right now IMO.

It's the cottage industry's groupthink and SEC hype.

I'm with you though. I have him even with Taco. He needs to develop more moves but the moves he knows he does extremely well.

I watched 6 games of his and I find the notion that he cannot bend to be ignorant.

Willis should be a good solid player. He could be the Cowboys pick at 60. He would be a steal at 92. It is hard to say where players will go in this draft. It is so strong. I hope that they are able to get some extra picks. I'd like them to draft 2 corners, a safety, a te, a de, and a dt. It would be great if they could get a pick for Romo and if they could trade back a little for more picks. Maybe a trade back with Cleveland.

You don't see his athleticism translate to the field. I also see a guy whose motor shuts down when a play gets past the hash marks. His technique is really non-existent outside of trying to beat his man around the edge; doesn't have quick/strong counter move to disengage when a QB steps up in the pocket and he's being taken up the field by a blocker. He has a quick first-step and obvious athletic ability (at by the test numbers) but he needs a lot of refinement, which makes him a strong candidate to be a 2nd to early 3rd round pick.

I'm not sure how instinctive and confident he is as a player which is what may cause him to play seemingly slower on the field in live action. The Combine is tailor-made for guys like him because you're asked to do brainless athletic tests: run fast over this distance (forty); jump as high as you can (vert); run around these stationary cones (3-cone); et cetera.

Then you have no idea what you are looking at, but still try to come off as a pompous know-it-all.

Willis admits readily, he rushes to a spot. .

Scouting reports back it up:

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/jordan-willis?id=2557884

Weaknesses
Straight-liner mover. Very deliberate as a pass rusher. Shows rush moves early and rarely deviates from original track. One-speed rusher lacking dynamic qualities to turn corner for tight loops. Could get flattened in the rush arc due to hip tightness. Timing of hands need work as he tends to shoot prematurely, opening himself up to counter moves. Rarely makes tackles redirect inside with sharp counters. Tackles often come at angles. Might need to move to outside linebacker on next level.

A top three cone time makes it feel like he should have some of the best bend in this class. But it doesn’t always come through. Too often, he gets run up past the junction point, the point where the DE needs to turn to the QB without drifting beyond the top of the launch spot.

I guess these people need to take lessons from you so they know what they are talking about. Golly they are ignorant.

You must be a pretty good player when they're highlighting your weaknesses on a play where you're getting a sack.
