It wasn't just Detroit and Minnesota. It was also GB and @NYG. Teams started targeting him and he struggled. He always seemed right on the cusp of making plays and would just fail.

I never got down on him because he was a div 2 UDFA and he was close and I tend to think young players get better. I think if you adjust your expectations accordingly youre right he wasn't that bad. It was obvious he had the head to play the game. He has gotten better and is a very good backup S. Very physical.

I don't remember anything sticking out about Heath in those other two games... but I trust your judgment on it, so I must be simply not remembering it correctly.

and he really has been improving, like you said.

Pretty sure Heath is more athletic than Church and Wilcox

He is. He's pretty darn fast too and has gotten stronger. 4.4 forty. He shows the speed on the field. I think he's getting better, while my boy Wilcox is getting worse. Heath has made some plays for us this year. Likeing his game, hope he improves more...he's only 24!

He didn't stick out because guys like Ernie Sims and Cam Laurence were on the field and were doing the blind dog in the butcher shop routine and staring plays down too. Heath was better than those two. I won't even mention all the DL scrubs. I just remember teams picking on him week after week against all those mideast teams on the road.

How do you figure he is limited physically? He runs in the 4.4s at 6'1" weighs 215 lbs. He can vjump over 3' bjump 10.5'. When he breaks on the ball he gets to the spot on time. That is more than Wilcox and to a lesser extent Church can say.

That is what he was able at his tiny schools proday at least. He looks better physically to me now than he used to so I would guess he might improve those scores.

I think that Heath is a highly athletic Safety who played for a small school. He went undrafted in 2013 and was thrown into the fire so to speak and unfairly got a bad rap quick and quickly became a whipping boy for fans.

The Cowboys were/are excited about his potential and signed him knowing he would take time to develop. He has amazing physical tools, he just needs time to learn the game and get acclimated to the speed and strategy difference of the NFL.

DBs typically take a few years to come into their own when making the transition from NCAA to NFL, especially when they're from a small school.

Now that he's had a couple training camps under his belt along with some live game action, I don't think it is a surprise that he's playing well.

TL;DR Small school kid coming into his own now after unfairly taking on a starter role too early and earning the hatred of fans. Has physical tools to be a very good starting safety.

good post, about how I see it. I always liked heath, and he has made some good plays last year too.

I feel like any safety off the street would be better than Wilcox at this point. That guy just isn't going to get it, he still whiffs on every open field tackle.

As for Heath, he's ok. Not terrible, but I think the fact he's white makes people think he's not as good as he is. Nick eatman said something to that effect last week on cowboys break.

That's doesn't make sense. Did he really insinuate that? Stupid considering the best safety in the NFL is white. (Arguably the two best, Weddle and Harrison Smith).

I am a fan of Heath as a third safety to come in on certain packages and snaps. As someone else said, he's not the type of player you'd want if you want s really dynamic defense. That said, if you put him beside a ballhawk, I think he could thrive.

I hope he continues to play well. Athletically he has the tools, hopefully the playing time now allows him to improve as a safety

Marginal NFL player, but one who works very hard and is smart. Will never be of starting quality.

Cowboys badly need to draft a SS high in the draft.

Bill Bates type who doesn't hit as hard or have the ball skills Bates had. Probably does the best he can do with what God gave him.

I will admit I was way too hard on him. Once saying he isn't good at football. He's played well and compared to Wilcox he looks like Ronnie Lott.
