I ask you to answer this as objectively as possible, and not entirely as a fan, but in your opinion what are your 3 reasons why he will succeed, and 3 reasons why he won’t.

Here mine:

3 Reasons Dak will be successful:

1. Took an average college program all the way to number 1.

2. The last time a Cowboys QB dominated the preseason it was Tony Romo, so if history means anything, we should be in good hands with Dak.

3. Not your average 4th rounder: The Gruden QB camp had me convinced, this guy is for real, not only his work ethic, but also his personality and the chip on his shoulder.

3 reasons why he won’t:

1. Being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys is the most prestigious position in American sports, so he won’t live up to the hype, or to his fans expectations.

2. Simply doesn’t have what it takes talent wise, facing NFL defenses in pressure situations.

3. Can’t make NFL reads and will struggle with turnovers.

With that said, I believe he will be a very serviceable quarterback in the first half of the season, and may potential have a very solid career in Dallas.

Let’s hear your predictions and reasons.

Success

1) The offensive staff, namely Garrett and Linehan truly have a modification in place to the offensive scheme that plays to his strengths.

2) He has the support of his teammates. It seems he has won over some of the big cheeses like Witten and Bryant already. He needs to maintain that.

3) Can't think of anything else. There are two big deals. See above.

Failure

1) The pressure of expectation - I have never seen a rookie QB come in and be near perfect like he has. It defied what he did and college and really was shocking. Now that bar has been set, will he still play as relaxed and comfortable? If he has a bad game will the Romo watch loom over everything?

2) The defense - the worse the defense is the more I think he might press. It is one thing to be cool in an exhibition, it is another to be just as poised and patient when you are playing from behind.

3) His ability to mature in season - He will get different looks of course and as he experiences success, there will be counters. Is he ready to deal with that mental aspect?

That really is a very good reason, if his defense struggles, Dak might struggle too. But on the other hand, if the running game succeeds, and Dak can drive the Cadillac well, the defense will rest, and the team may be better as a unit.

Which gives me reason #4 Dak will be successful; His offensive line and his running game.

1 Running game
2. Has solid receivers from RB, TE, WR
3. Seems to have head on his shoulders and he exudes that he belongs but not in arrogant way, more like a Early Romo way.

1. He used to be the reason why his team won in college, some of that may come out when things get dicey.
2. The Dallas Defense may be too porous and he will have to try and take that one lesson from romo he has not been taught yet, (putting the team on his shoulders) and try to do too much too soon.
3. He tries to be a pure pocket passer and does not use his instincts.

Im not that worries about 1 and 3 much to be honest. One of the things I always like about him as a prospect even while I shredded his game was the fact he had everything in the brain department to be a starter from character to intellegence to leadership

My biggest worry about him right now is the consistency of his delivery. As a passer he still has alot to clean up. I can see a Derek Carr type rookie year where he is effective but there are warts and it leads to some up and downs

My biggest hope for the season is you get a senario where he is hot because defense dont have tape, and by the time the have enough, Romo is back

1) His poise - at no point has the moment seemed too big for him.
2) His weapons - he's got a plethora of offensive talent around him.
3) His coaches - they have shown a willingness to modify things to suit his strengths and simplify his reads

1) His ignorance - defensive coordinators are going to do everything they can to confuse him simply by throwing things at him that he's never seen before.
2) His fearlessness - he's shown a willingness to throw the ball into bad places expecting our guys to make a play. Sometimes the other guy will make plays too.
3) His preseason - the bar is ludicrously high.

Success:

1) best supporting cast offensively that a rookie QB could ask for...talented OL, HOF TE, All-Pro WR and a deep talented RB crew.

2) Dakota is very poised for a young player. If he remains poised and keeps his head about him he will succeed.

3) Having played in the SEC for 4yrs Dakota is battle tested against NFL talent.

Failure:

1) Like most rookie QB's he struggles to read defenses and recognize blitzes thus leading to turnovers/poor decisions.

2) The defense is incapable of getting turnovers, sacks, keep opponents from averaging 24pts/gm or getting off the field on 3rd downs. This will lead to the onus being on the offense and QB specifically pressing to make plays and score points.

3) Injuries on the OL or to Dez Bryant.

1. OL
2. Dez and Zeke
3. His ability to scramble/run really hurts defenses

1. Fooled by savvy defensive coordinators
2. Defense lets other team get too far ahead and he has to stray from gameplan
3. Fans expect too much and see his rookie play as not good enough.

1. Leadership skills. Something QBs in his mold have lacked, like McNabb, RGIII, Manziel, and Newton (Don't care about his performance last year, he's not a leader)
2. Supporting cast. Great running game, great O-line, and top 5 WR
3. Intelligence. He's just a smart football player, which I still consider the most important aspect to the QB position.

1. Defense. Like with Romo's career, this can destroy seasons despite what a QB does.
2. Off the field issues. I don't think Dak is that kind of guy, but those small red flags are still red flags.
3. Injuries to his supporting cast. If he loses just a couple key players, he'll struggle.

One that should be 3B in why he will succeed. Most QBs that come out of college have a cannon of an arm but a 10 second throwing motion or have a quick release and a noodle arm. Dak seems to have pretty quick release with good arm strength. He still has faults in his mechanics which i think when they get fixed he will have more zip on hard throws adn more accuracy also.

1. OL (nice interior and LT)
2. Zeke (add Morris, great change of pace RBs)
3. Dez (Healthy)

1. Experience (speed of the game)
2. Fundamentals (reading defensive schemes)
3. Dallas Defense (not keeping Dak on the field)

I'll throw a few in here.
Reasons for possible success:
1. Seems to show poise in the pocket and hasn't panicked so far
2. OL and running game should take quite a bit of the load off of him
3. SEC experience is a plus.

Reasons for possible failure:
1. I don't trust your guys coaching staff to tailor the offense to hide his deficiencies ala Shannahan with the read option for RG3 in 2012
2. Trial by fire.. He's gonna get thrown to the wolves and will have to learn the hard way.. success rate for rookie qb's who start from game 1 is not very high historically.. long odds there.
3. If your run game can't get you guys ahead in games early, he's gonna have double the load on his shoulders trying to pay catch up with the way your defense is looking. I don't know that you guys can sustain 24+ppg with a rookie starting
4. Lack of NFL game experience/OL pass blocking. I know much is made about how awesome your line is, but I think they're definitely much better run blocking than pass blocking as a whole, Romo has taken quite a few big shots behind that OL over the last several years.. sometimes you just can't help things. Guys are gonna get beat

Plus:
O-line
Run game
Physical ability
Bonus: Healthy Dez and quick options available.

Challenges:
He's a rookie and there will be growing pains.
Teams will eventually have enough tape to game plan against him.
It's not college, he's going to face superior competition...

1. OL & a strong running game
2. Poise he has shown, knew when to run as opposed to trying to force a pass
3. Top 5 WR, and a future HOF TE

1. Reading defenses from a game plan from the opposing team. Knowing when to audible out.
2. Letting the game get too big for him, now the the lights are on for real, at least the first few games.
3. Learning curve, do not get down on himself after a bad play, and those will happen at the most inopportune times.

You completely lost me when you said he will make it because he has Garrett. That is CLEARLY one of the reasons that he wouldnt.

3 REASONS HE'LL HAVE SUCCESS
1. Stars around him on offense
2. His poise and confidence
3. Being a double threat (arm and legs)

3 REASONS HE WON'T HAVE SUCCESS
1. No experience (especially in 4th Qtr comebacks)
2. Having a bad game that rattles him mentally afterwards
3. Over confident

Successful

1. Best O-Line in football that can pass protect and run block

2. Quality talent at receiver with Dez and Beasley causing matchup problems, T-Will is solid in the #2 WR role and Witten can still go.

3. Running game. Not only the O-Line's great run blocking and the exciting combo of EE and Morris, but Prescott can run the ball as well. Leaves us with shorter yardage on 3rd down and is compatible with Dez and T-Will being able to go deep. Allows the offense to dictate what throws they want Dak making more often.

Unsuccessful

1. Poor defense. Keeps him on the field longer and exposes him.

2. He's a rookie that could have used the year off to take care of the little things and then get used to playing NFL football. Likely to have old, bad habits creep back in. Still has to learn to read defenses.

3. Coaching. The book on Romo was to blitz him because the Cowboys didn't like to utilize hot routes and didn't do a good job of adjusting. That was until they finally got an excellent pass protection O-Line. When Romo got hurt last year, the adjustments by the coaching staff were downright criminal. And Garrett has a way about him where when he screws up royally one week, he goes in the exact opposite direction so much that it doesn't work either.

We've seen times where he threw the ball ad nauseum for no apparent reason. Then the press and fans get on him and we run the ball ad nauseum the next week.
