Why he will succeed:

1. He's playing behind this offensive line.
2. He's playing in front of Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris and (maybe) Darren McFadden and has Dez Bryant and Jason Witten to throw to.
3. He's smart, a hard worker, and he'll be given an offensive scheme that won't overwhelm him.

Why he will fail:

1. Preseason aint the regular season, and he won't be able to decipher the exotic blitzes teams will throw at him.
2. He will feel too much pressure to succeed and try to do too much.
3. He'll get injured having run the ball too much.

No doubt that Dak was great in college and doing great so far for us.

Just get the facts out there, however, here are the college football final rankings each year he QB's Miss State:

2013--unranked
2013---unranked
2014--12th
2015--unranked

That 2014 season was pretty special in that during the season at one point, MSU rose to the number one ranking for a few weeks. They ended up finishing 12th though, and never finished ranked in the top 25 in any other year.

That 2014 MSU team did have better talent around him and, as would be expected, that led to a better team and a final ranking of 12th in the nation.

I'll throw a few in here.
Reasons for possible success:
1. Seems to show poise in the pocket and hasn't panicked so far
2. OL and running game should take quite a bit of the load off of him
3. SEC experience is a plus.

Reasons for possible failure:
1. I don't trust your guys coaching staff to tailor the offense to hide his deficiencies ala Shannahan with the read option for RG3 in 2012
2. Trial by fire.. He's gonna get thrown to the wolves and will have to learn the hard way.. success rate for rookie qb's who start from game 1 is not very high historically.. long odds there.
3. If your run game can't get you guys ahead in games early, he's gonna have double the load on his shoulders trying to pay catch up with the way your defense is looking. I don't know that you guys can sustain 24+ppg with a rookie starting
4. Lack of NFL game experience/OL pass blocking. I know much is made about how awesome your line is, but I think they're definitely much better run blocking than pass blocking as a whole, Romo has taken quite a few big shots behind that OL over the last several years.. sometimes you just can't help things. Guys are gonna get beat

Funny how your list of positives are considerably short, whereas your negatives are a couple sentences a piece and are actually 4 reasons instead of 3. Way to beobjective with your analysis there mr. skins fan. Your team sucks and our offense is going to run amuck all over you poor *******s. Now dont u have better things to do then hsnging out on the board of an opposing team..

Why he will succeed

  1. Great offensive players surrounding him. The best situation (on that side of the ball only) that rookie could ever dram of getting itto
  2. Outstanding work ethic and QB intelligence...so he can grow between the ears and technique-wise
  3. Natural leadership skills

Why he will fail

  1. Too soon. he would be much better served going at a more steady pace.
  2. Believe it or not, he does have several mechanical flaws in his game
  3. High injury potential

I predict he'll have a good, or even very good career though..jmo

Don't be such a toolbag.
The positives don't need much more explanation, they are pretty self explainotory.
The negatives I thought needed a bit more of an explanation as to why.

Nice come back though, "your team sucks, hurr durr run offensive line" Objectivity.. you haz none of it.

3 Reasons for Success
Teammates

Top talent throughout offense. All experienced, save for EE. Tough match ups for opponents. Dak also doesn't fall apart when a play breaks down. Keeps his eyes downfield. Will open up opportunities for teammates.

Heavy Run-centric Strategy
I'll be surprised if he isn't protected a bunch by the coaches leaning run heavy, including designed Dak runs. Between the RBs and his own ability, I don't think we'll see as much blitzing as many expect. Teams will make Dak prove it in the air. If defenses send extra rushers, there's a good chance Dak could regularly take 15-20 yard chunks out of their D via the ground. He's built strong like bull.

Soft Early Schedule
The teams we play early are mostly not known for putting points up and their D's are not Seattle. It gets a little worse with Bengals and @ Green Bay in week 5 and 6 before the bye, but at least GB in mid-OCT should be mild. Even with Romo, GB would likely have been favored by 5+. And who knows, Romo could be back by Cincy.

I'll also end with a bonus: it's good that Romo has enough self-confidence to be 100% in Dak's corner. Dak's QB coach just improved 1000x.

3 Reasons for Failure
Inexperience

Maybe I'm off on this but I doubt Linehan/Garrrett are going to give Dak a run and a pass call and have him decide based on pre-snap reads what he's going to call. (Though this might be a plus.) I also don't expect him to have full command of the playbook early. Once there's more film on him, defenses might recognize patterns in what he's comfortable with, jump routes and play riskier than they'd normally play.

Dallas Defense
No pass rush is a recipe for not getting the opponent off the field. If Dak tosses an INT here and there and gives opponents a short field, the problem will feed on itself and eliminate any expected run advantage.

Dallas Media/National Media/Fans
He seems unusually mature, but media and fan attention w/ Dallas is another level. If we win, there will be more attention and accolades than he may really deserve. If he struggles, there will be more negativity than he deserves. I don't expect him to go full RGIII from praise or full Ryan Leaf from criticism, but it just could be very distracting.

I ask you to answer this as objectively as possible, and not entirely as a fan, but in your opinion what are your 3 reasons why he will succeed, and 3 reasons why he won’t.

Here mine:

3 Reasons Dak will be successful:

1. Took an average college program all the way to number 1.

2. The last time a Cowboys QB dominated the preseason it was Tony Romo, so if history means anything, we should be in good hands with Dak.

3. Not your average 4th rounder: The Gruden QB camp had me convinced, this guy is for real, not only his work ethic, but also his personality and the chip on his shoulder.

3 reasons why he won’t:

1. Being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys is the most prestigious position in American sports, so he won’t live up to the hype, or to his fans expectations.

2. Simply doesn’t have what it takes talent wise, facing NFL defenses in pressure situations.

3. Can’t make NFL reads and will struggle with turnovers.

With that said, I believe he will be a very serviceable quarterback in the first half of the season, and may potential have a very solid career in Dallas.

Let’s hear your predictions and reasons.
Success:
1. Hands off to the RB successfully.

Failure:
1. Struggles to hand off to the RB.
