What are the Cowboys best options to fix the D?

Via the draft or FA, knowing we stay at the 4-3, who should they take or pick up?

And yes or no to Johnny Football?

What I would do is:

1. Sign Ray Horton or move Marinelli to D-Coordinator

2. Trade Claiborne for a #1 pick

3. Trade down (unless somebody ridiculously falls to us). Make a deal similar to the deal last year with the Niners, trade down to a later 1st rounder and pick up a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

4. Restructure Ware

5. Try to get Hatcher and Spencer at a reasonable price (I think Spencer may be easier than Hatcher)

6. Look for a FA that can contend to start at the WILL and can play the MIKE. That way he can compete with Carter and Holloman for the WILL and take over the MIKE if Lee gets injured. We can also look to move Carter or Holloman to the SAM.

7. Spend one of our 1st rounders on a safety that can play right away. Move Church to backup or perhaps Linebacker

8. Spend early pick on D-Lineman (probably strongside DE)

9. Figure out everything responsible for the hamstring pulls and fire anybody responsible for it.

10. Create a practice environment where those players that are hurt will have to perform rigorous calesthenics on the non-injured parts (creates an environment where the player would rather play thru being hurt than being on the sidelines and doing even more rigorous exercise).

We could then go into the season looking like this on defense:

Wonderful post, but I highly doubt they can get a 1st rounder for Claiborne. Shoot, I don't know if they could even get a mid-round pick for him.

sign spencer to cheap 1 year incentive laden deal (his options will be quite limited)

sign one impact FA starter on DL (with money saved from ware)
draft 2 DL in first 3 rounds of the draft

How to fix the defense? Quit trying to be cute and drafting players that are injured. Yes, they can play, but there is a reason why they dropped. It's like we want Ralph Lauren, but we don't want to pay for it so we go to Ross or TJ Maxx to get it.

Johnny Football? U betcha! Might be the best player to come out in years. IMO he will be a top 5 pick. He might be small, but all he does is make plays, win, and lift his team. Did you see the leadership he showed in the 2nd half the other night? I hate A&M with a passion, but love this kid. If I had to choose between he and Bridgewater I would swoope Football up in a New York second and wouldn't think twice.

How to fix the D
1. Sign Jariyus Bryd and extend Hatcher
2. Get 2-3 free agent dline, possible some old vets with some juice left, put them in the rotation.
3. Draft 2-3 players on the dline, some potential starters.
4. Defense is fix

Issue with this ? Free up the money for Bryd, Hatcher and 2 vets.
