I'm optimistic that the light has come on for Coleman. He said as much himself in a recent interview about how he's worked on working smarter and being more professional. Maybe that argument with Hardy was the best thing for him and he now realizes his potential and the opportunity in front of him.

He may be the guy that ultimately gives so many their wish and makes Hayden expendable.

Also Coleman has had a year's worth of NFL "tutelage" including strength training and working within the current scheme... that has to make a difference also.

Last year he didn't show much in the way of lane discipline... this preseason he looked much more in control and aware of where the ball was.

I predict that Coleman will replace Mincey in Cowboys third and long rotation (Gregory - Coleman - Crawford - Lawrence), at least until Hardy returns. Coleman is stouter against the run and has really good chemistry with Gregory.

I'm hoping he forces his way past Hayden by mid season. If Bishop can knock Hayden off the roster even better. Hayden is the only guy that absolutely does not fit criteria for Marinelli's RUSHmen.

With Davon Coleman, it appears the Cowboys will be getting a 3-tech d-lineman who has a world of potential for being a disruptive force for the Dallas Defense. I'm hoping he'll be inserted liberally in the DC/NYG game.

I would agree with you at 3 of the positions, but to me, we are still lacking at the 3 technique. I dont see even one deep there. A guy ranked as one of the worst DT in the league cant possibly be even one deep. And if no one can beat him out, that is a problem.

In my opinion, DT is a top priority as well as RB.

Rated by who exactly?

Marinelli?

When 60 is in I am expecting good things to happen. Once the middle collapses the qb will need to go left or right. You know who's there.

Just did some digging. Here is what we did "back in the day" when we had a Super Bowl type team.

1992 - 44 sacks
1993 - 34 sacks
1994 - 47 sacks
1995 - 35 sacks

I'll admit I was a little surprised by what I found.

Sacks are a little misleading, IMO. If you're playing against a veteran QB, you might not have a high sack total, despite the fact that your defense was getting pressure all day, because the QB is simply throwing the ball away. Doesn't really tell the true story. I think it's more important to watch how many times the pocket is collapsing and how many times the QB is hurried, rather than sacked.

Coleman, Bishop, and McClain are all better than Hayden. I dont know what is clouding Maranellis judgment but he has 3 better options. I would have rather cut Hayden than Edwards who was beggining to show out.

I get the feeling that the front office is not that big of a fan of Hayden either. Of the 10 DL on the roster, 6 are DTs and 1 is a DT/DE and only 3 are DEs. Of the DTs, 4 can play the 1tech position.

DE Gregory
DE Lawrence
DE Mincey (can play DT in the Nickel)

DE/DT Russell

DT TCraw
DT JCraw (played DE last year but only DT this preseason)
DT Hayden (1tech)
DT Coleman (1/3 tech)
DT McClain (1/3 tech)
DT Bishop (1tech)

It will be very interesting to see who gets pushed off this lineup when Hardy comes back. Everyone has 4 games to shine before that happens.

Coleman played both in the preseason. He played almost all of his snaps at the 3 in the final ps game with McClain and Bishop at the 1.

Yes I know. I have explained this a few times but will again.

I was replying to a comment that said we have no 1 tech. Hence the reason I said Coleman plays the one.

Injuries could make those decisions for them.
