What are the odds the Cowboys actually pick at #4?

If Bosa or Goff is there? 100%

Bosa is going to be a bust. He's slow off the snap and gets lazy when he doesnt win off the snap. Media were saying Goff was horrible when he was playing Ranked opponents from the pac12 in the middle of the season which he lost every one of them games. But after beating bad teams all of the sudden hes back to top 5 material?

Normally I would say 50-50 at the lowest to trade.

However with the #4 overall pick I think they will stay put more than other years with the one Caveat being if they get a trade offer that is just too good to pass up (kind of like a RGIII kind of trade offer).

Probably projecting here, but I think a lot depends on how they rate the QBs. If they're sitting there at #4 and a franchise-QB (to them) is available, they stay put and take him. If there's not one available, I think they look to move down and pick up extra picks.

At 4 they should get one of the best at the following positions...

DB
LB
DT
WR
RB

And have a chance at getting the best at

DE (if Bosa has not been taken)
OT ( If Tunsil has not been taken)
And QB if both have not been taken.

So coincide with the idea that they will have a choice of their top 1-5 picks on their board overall (with at least 2 of those top five players available) on top of the idea that they get the best (their rankings) at a specific position if they want....it will make it hard for them to trade down IMO.

They will have to get an offer they can't refuse before they trade down IMO.

Marino threw 17 TDS vs 23 INTS his senior year at Pitt. Didn't stop him from having a pretty good career. Not sayin Goff will have the same career, but to say he did did mediocre against better teams doesn't fly with me. In Dallas he'll have a great OL and potent weapons to throw to. He'd thrive here. I wouldn't give up the farm to get him though.

Bosa... Ugghhh. I just don't see the top 5 talent with this player.

I would not be surprised if Wentz is considered the best QB by half the teams in the league and we'll have to pull the trigger at 4 if we want him.

Heck Cleveland may pass on Goff for Wentz.
Agree.
Don't agree.
Never happen.

To take that a step further, unless Goff or Lynch drops is there any player that some team just couldn't live without that they would offer a kings treasure to move up and get? Probably not.

Trades this high in the draft don't happen that often. It requires one team giving up a lot of value, usually another really bad team who can't afford to do so. The higher team also has to really get over value to agree to pass on such a highly rated player, or accept under value which they have no reason to do. I think it's unlikely they trade down.

Ya never know. It just takes one club to think that a player that's available can push them over the top. (See Jerry re: Claiborne)

Which is why it's unlikely, not impossible. It's definitely not 50-50. The only way I really see a trade down is if Goff is available and the Cowboys don't want him.

To your point, there have been very few trades for the #4 pick in particular historically speaking, so the position is usually not the hot button for trade up consideration.

It is certainly possible but not probable unless someone has fallen in love with a given player.

Exactly. These 50-50 guys blow my mind. Its probably just wishful thinking honestly. It's going to take so many factors to trade because its sooo expensive for a team to trade up that high. I think its at least 90% that we pick at 4.

I think he might be another Greg Ellis..

I'm not drafting a player like that top 5.

Just the lack of explosiveness really puts me off.

It all depends on what happens before the draft with Johnny Manziel and/or RG3. Likely trade down if Jerry gets his early Xmas gift.

Free agency could definitely impact their draft strategy, will be interesting to see what they will do before the draft.
