Big arm

Ability to pick up the offense
The Ability to put the ball where it needs to be
Leadership Capabilities etc

As it stands now we have 1 QB under contract on this team, I think we're overlooking the fact that our current starting QB is coming off an injured season, and he may not be the same going forward in terms of availability. With that said, I see fans on here saying that we need to fix the trenches, and all other aspects of this team, but having a QB that can step in and give us some wins NOT NAMED RUSH/Lance is going to be helpful to this team!

I'm not sure Rush would want to come back anyways seeing how they did him the last game, please give your thoughts

Accuracy. Decisiveness, especially when the defense (real or imagined) shuts down receivers and decrease down-and-distance with his legs routinely.

I agree totally, it would be nice to see a QB that could do all of this and help us out get some yards with his legs

This is a good topic because I think a lot of our fanbase have unrealistic perspectives on what a backup is.

IMO, an ideal backup QB should have NFL starting experience at some point. They should know how to manage the game and make intelligent decisions and understand the scheme inside and out.

Guys like Andy Dalton and Kyle Orton were quality backups.

I think it depends on the situation each team is in. If you're a serious super bowl contender you probably want a veteran who has starting experience and can step into the lineup for multiple weeks.

The Cowboys at this point should be looking for a developmental piece to have as QB2. I'm not sure bringing in a Joe Flacco type to potentially save the season is the way to go this year. If they can't land a guy they like via the draft that could change things, and maybe you look at a Justin Fields or Zach Wilson if they haven't found teams yet.

I stopped reading when you said "a good topic" and i'm sure someone else will feel the same (thanks!!!!). I totally agree it seems that the backups we pickup have never even played the game of football a day in their lives. It makes me question what they see from these guys in practice that makes them say hey if our starter goes down,we'll be able to play with them!!!! I guess in Dallas you can't be too good because we don't want a QB controversy

I'm so glad this offense is changing, maybe it'll be more BACKUP QB friendly! Well maybe i'm lying because the offense looked different with Rush in it as to the offense we used with Dak

Grier is signed.

One to push Dak. Put some fear into him to play better.
Also for him to take over very soon.

If Jerry is serious about winning, he will address this with a higher pick that the 4th rounder we do not have.
Because he should know as we fans know. Dak will go down again this season with another injury.
Then maybe the same thing will happen to Dak as it did Tony.

I think that is more what to expect. I can only guess until we see it in action, but I think they'll run the offense more like we had it from the Rush games. It's going to be more QB1 friendly and ran like it would be with a backup in the game.

The next feel good story for a Cowboys QB!!

Can't be any worse. Need some excitement.
Need something like when Jerry took over, and Jimmy came in, and we knew Troy Aikman was going to be selected as the new QB.

That is what I want. However, we will not get a new owner, and they will not select a QB in round 1.
Prepared to be disappointed again. :banghead::laugh:

Someone that is young, athletic and is adaptive to the current NFL playstyle. I’m sorry but if Dak goes down for an extended period of time starting some bridge QB to just come in under .500 does not interest me at all at this point
