Good thought on KC cuz we have a lot of front office and scouting contacts there...

Having said that, Hicks is the one who gets no pass rush and the guy on the other side lights it up. Hicks is sure to get you 5 sacks a year, while Jared Allen (5th round 2004) has 20 in 2 years.

Rush you are correct. It is Allen. Hicks would be the guy collecting splinters.

:D

Thank you for the assist on that one.

What about Ellis to the Vikings for Napoleon Harris. He was made for the 3-4 and is out of place in a 4-3 defense. He could rush the passer and help stop the run. He already has experience at playing the position. This would work out for both teams.

per Mosley's latest article:

Ted Christian, who is about to move to Abilene, Texas, writes: "Does Greg Ellis have any trade value and do you see this as an option?"

Ted, I could see Jerry Jones trying to accommodate Ellis, who basically announced his departure after the Rams game. We've all written Ellis off, but the truth is that the Cowboys wouldn't be saving that much money by releasing him. They owe him a $500,000 roster bonus March 1. Ellis obviously wants out because he thinks he can get a lot more playing time elsewhere. If he stays here, he'll probably be Chris Canty's backup. He also knows he could land a pretty nice contract as a free agent.

But back to your original question, Ted. I don't think the Cowboys would be able to get that much for a defensive end who finished the season on the bench. Ellis is a class act, and he won't get in a public battle with the franchise. And that's why Jones will do everything he can to accommodate him. But the truth is that Larry Allen and La'Roi Glover present more of a financial burden than Ellis.

Enjoy the move to Abilene.

I think our DE position is in good position right now without Ellis. He is a one trick pony in this defense, and we have bodies behind Spears/Canty - we have Ratliff and Pepper/Coleman, or we can bring in a warm body.

Ellis and Glover both should be traded for picks IMO. BP had an outstanding draft (especially in the 2 thru 4 rounds, and I'm sure we can get 2's or atleast a 3 and a 4 for the each of them.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong. I don't understand the logic of placing complete faith in Spears and Canty, who haven't done much, and then in Ratliff, Pepper and Coleman who've done even less. THEN we get rid of Ellis, in your sceneairo, to bring in a warm body. With what? $500,000 it takes to keep Ellis? At $500,000 you'd be getting a cold body.......... not in a prone position.

Ellis looked fresh when he played and his play proves it. As for the reduction in play time I believe it was due to BP wanting to gauge production out of the rookies in a semi-long haul/playoff atmosphere gig.

At the end of the season, I think you already know about as much as your going to from your rookie class. I do see Spears, Canty, Ratliff and Johnson as our future and I'm actually pretty good with that. I think another solid vet rotation guy at DE would be a good idea and would be cheaper then Ellis. I'm for moving those guys and getting picks. People in the league are not stupid. The fact that Ellis is a productive 43 DE in this league for 8 years will not escape them and it will not lower his value IMO. He's not benched because he's slowed down or has off the field issues. He's on the bench because he doesn't fit the scheme. I think there will be value for him. Especially since we don't have to let him go. We're not being forced to move him so that will create need on the part of other teams.

I don't think Ellis will make or break next season whether he's here or not.

We all know that Spears and Canty look like good players. I was very impressed with Ratliff before he got hurt, and I was impressed with Pepper after Ratliff went down.

If Ellis is here, he needs to understand that he is a role player. The truth is, that's all he's ever been.
