back in 98, I think... Jerry didnt want to draft Randy Moss because of off the field issues, like he was a Champion of higher standards in his Organization. Now, Jerry Jones has made the Cowboys a safe haven for thugs with multiple off the field problems...

Does Jerry make a mockery of Tom Landrys legacy because of the one that got away?

or has losing and poor talent evaluation several years after the Moss debacle taken its toll on the guy that changes his mind like the wind...

Hahahaha oh boy.

He made "a mockery" long before that. What you call making a mockery, I call improving a team. But let it be known that I do not want PacMan on this team, but he does make us better.

He didnt take Moss b/c of the recent troubles that happened back then. We have been a clean team for along time now. Very few arrests, but to answer your quesiton, he changed his mind when we went 5-11 for three straight years and after Parcells left.

I believe that the Moss deal was a case of him not wanting to deal with, or feeling the Cowboys needed, another situation like that off the heels of the Michael Irvin, Erik Williams, and so on off the field junk.

I think the Cowboys were simply in a different situation than they are now and he didn't feel like they were ready, or able, to take on another personality like that without it being a detriment to the team.

Had we drafted Moss, our offense would have looked sick that year. Also, who knows if Irvin would have went down in Philly. We wouldn't have had to do that stupid Galloway trade.

I assume you're talking about Pacman and Tank Johnson?

Owens has absolutely no problems outside of the game of football, he has a big mouth.. that's it.

I don't think that qualify's the cowboy's as a safe haven for thugs and criminals.

Moss will make any QB have a career year if he is at least decent. Cunningham, Culpepper, and now Brady. Imagine what it wouldve been like with Aikman.

We wouldve had the best deep ball receiver and the best intermediate receiver in the game.

Emmitt would have reaped the benefits and probably got another rushing title in 98. That was when we went 8-8 and lost to Ari in the wildcard? Followed by a 6-10 year?

I agree.

I think Jerry is more desperate now.

I think things came very easily and quickly after he purchased the team and hired Jimmy Johnson. Maybe he felt he could afford to pass on Moss.

Now, over a decade later, without a playoff win, I think he's simply more willing to deal with the devil.

Hiring Bill Parcells is also something he wouldn't have done in the late 90's but after years of not winning, he was willing to do so.

It hurts to think about what could've been. Even if only for a short while. :(

Best post in the thread.. ;) including the OP

Don't you just love these veiled "iHateTO" threads that pop up every once in awhile. Thank goodness we won last week. This board would have been full of these ridiculous posts for another week had we lost.

Things were kind of coming to a head at that point with the Cowboys. They were seriously becoming known as a team full of criminals, and it wasn't good for marketing. Plain and simple, it was a money decision for Jerry.

Nothing has changed; he didn't draft and shell out bank for players that have no NFL skins on the wall, he brought in players that were starters on other teams but needed a change of scenery. If Jerry had drafted Moss v2.0(Adarius Bowman), then you'd have a case.

Did Hollywood Henderson and Rafael Septien not already do that?

What behavioral legacy are we talking about?

Tom Landry coached just as many thugs and criminals as anyone else did.

A decade without a playoff win is what changed him

It's easy to take the moral highground when you're winning

It's not like Jerry has just now started dipping into the character risk players after missing out on Randy Moss. He brought in both Spellman and Underwood among others. He just hasn't drafted character risks in the first round, Carpenter excluded.

Brother. Call me when one of the players on this team has a significant run-in with the law. I mean, something beyond breaking an umbrella thing.

thats exactly what changed his mind. Moss had an issue here and there but nothing to warrant him not being on a nfl team. That combined with us never beating randy moss in a game....that will make you change your mind.

PS...who else besides pacman was a thug.

the price he had to pay for not drafting Randy Moss. Forget the fact that he b-slaps the Cowboys just about every time he plays them, but this is more telling:

Over 40 million dollars in salaries and bonuses AND 4 draft picks, including TWO #1 picks. That's the price.

a) Rocket Ismail = 7 years, 21 million dollars, 7 millions signing bonus.

b) James McKnight = inherited contract ( iirc: 2 million dollars a year ), plus a 3rd and 5th round draft picks

c) Joey Galloway= 42 million dollars contract, 12.5 millions signing bonus + 2 number 1 picks.

Neither Rocket or Galloway finished their contracts with Dallas, but between their signing bonuses + the salaries they collected while with the Cowboys, + McNight's salary, the figure should be around 40+ millions.

Not drafting Moss set the franchise back at least 5 years, if not more.
