Frank Thomas, Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg and even Gregg Maddux could be considered for the MLB rep for Chicago.

They could, that's true. Of those, only Maddux would be a guy that I would consider as a possible better choice but all in all, I still think Ernie Banks would be the player you would consider the greatest Cub. Of course, that's a matter of opinion.

Gretzkey was not an LA athlete. He may have played there but that is not who claims him.

He played there and is easily the greatest player the Kings ever had. He's the greatest player any Hockey Team has ever had so I don't see a problem with him being included. Kareem played in Milwaukee as well. That's the life of a modern day player.

Boston can have Babe Ruth too.

I think you have to have a player that has been there for a decent amount of time in order to say they were a Red Sox or a Yankee or whatever the case. I would never personally consider Johnny Unites as a Charger but technically, he did play for them so yeah, I guess you could say that.

Detroit
MLB-Ty Cobb
NFL-Barry Sanders
NBA-I don't know. I guess Isaiah Thomas
NHL-I have no idea since I don't follow hockey, but the Red Wings have a rich history. They probably had a great player or two.

Maybe Dave Bing as well for NBA.

I'd use Modano for Dallas and Minnesota.

Modano was only in Minnesota for 4 years before the franchise moved to Dallas. Did they not have any other great players in the previous 2+ decades they were located in Minnesota?

Sure but Edmonton doesn't have a MLB, NFL or NBA team and LA does.
If you can count Gretzky in LA, you could count him in STL or NY too.

Gordy Howe! Yzerman, Sawchuck, Lidstrom and even Datsyuk - who will be a HOF first ballot - could all count.

All in all, Detroit has a pretty good list. I think Boston still probably takes the cake though, as much as it pains me to say it.

Dino Ciccarelli maybe....was over a PPG in his career there.

You could, but I think that is getting a bit extreme. Gretzky played a significant portion of his career in LA(8 years) and a significant portion of his career in Edmonton(9 years). He basically drove through St. Louis(1 year). His best years were with the Oilers, but he was still darn good with the Kings. By the time he made it to STL and NY, he was definitely less of a player.

Exactly what I was thinking.

This puts Dallas in the running for sure.

HARD to beat Emmitt + Nolan Ryan. Those are household names to this day. Dirk and Modano are just icing on the cake.

Yea, forget STL I forgot how much of a failure that was lol. And despite being less of a player in NY, he still had two seasons with 90 points.

But neither NY or STL would claim him as their best player. They have had players that were better for their franchises even if those players weren't as great as Gretzky as a whole. He is the Kings best player at least to my "not a hockey fan" knowledge.

Maddux will always be a Brave to me, that is where he really made a name for himself. The same applies to N. Ryan and toall the other athletes who changed teams.

So, chalk up Greg for Atlanta

I understand. I mean, when I think Nolan Ryan, I think Mets, not Astros, Texans or Angles. It's just an association thing.

Maddux won his first Cy Young in Chicago and really made himself a lot of money in the process. I wouldn't say he is the best Cub or best Chicago baseball player, but he is in the mix. He probably is the best Atlanta baseball player.

I don't consider Nolan Ryan to be the best Texas Ranger player. If he is, then that is one sad franchise. He definitely has the biggest appeal, but there were better players and even pitchers in Rangers history. I think Pudge Rodgriguez is the greatest Texas Ranger player.

No, it just means you are old enough to remember Ryan actually playing for the Mets.

I would like to think Mets being a fan but Astros comes to mind first :(

Right but it's often the first thing you associate with right? I mean, there's no way he would be a Met but that's the first team association for me, wtih Ryan. That's what I'm trying to say.
