I don't know if I need a long buildup to another super-baddy. Just establish FF, X-men and carry on with Avengers movies (and solo/duo films) and when they are all established, boom Secret Wars. You could even have a part 2, with Beyonder going to Earth.

The MCU core audience would totally get Secret Wars but I think the general audience would get lost trying to follow the story.

You think so? As long as there are enough established heroes and villains for the film, I think it will be fine. I don't recall how much is explained up front in the comics, but you could have the audience figure out what is happening at the same pace of the displaced super-beings.

As big of a comic book fan as I am, I have still never bothered to watch that 'film'. I think it's even on Disney+ right now and I have no desire even to watch it for free.

!!!

i paid good money to watch it and i was upset beyond measure

The writing was bad....Human Torch is someone I loved and he was written as this depressed rebel with no sense of humor and invisible woman was written as a juvenile delinquent who was adopted and that just irritated me

that is no where near her personality or backstory or human torches personality.....shes gotta be the one to hold Johnny accountable its kinda like a HUGE part of the fantastic four

it was bad all around.....

Edit
Not to mention they got their powers at almost the end of the movie

Fantastic Four flat was never done right. Awful project after awful project ... awful directing and writing after another .

.. reminds me much of Xmen Last Stand followed by Dark Phoenix

...ditto for Ghost Rider and it's sequel. .

. and don't forget Elektra (whom i loved as a comic book character), but flat vastly disappointed how they screwed up her solo film.

- FF was easily one of Marvel's most popular, best selling comics,..and the spinoff possiblities (Silver Surfer) have to keep enticing the Marvel/Disney Studios
- and Disney may feel that they personally want to see what they make of the hero group in their own creation. ..one that will sizzle the movie critiics
for their raving reviews to draw and influence and sell a viewing audience

Fox lost the Xmen to viewers after " Days of Future Past " , but for whatever reason, they couldn't get the box office they coveted from a very popular comic book group and characters. Only once did Xmen exceed 100 million in opening box office. Last Stand if you can believe that.
although United did very well with 85 mill opening

and then it was all downhill for Fox Studios and Xmen ...other than " Logan:"

" Apocalypse" wasn't accepted by critics and fans , not one of director Bryan Singer's better workings ...and that was followed up by their last Xmen flop in " Dark Phoenix " which was purely a special effects mess.

Apocalypse made the mistake of not using CGI on a villain that practically requires it. When I saw the screen caps of Oscar Isaac in costume, I said I'd wait to hear the early review before going to the theater. As I suspected, it was hot garbage and I didn't go. Of course they shoe-horned in the Phoenix saga right after introducing Jean Grey. I didn't go see that one either.

Nobody did less with more than Fox did with the X-Men films. They had the biggest comics series of all times at their disposal, and managed to screw it up so badly that they ended up selling the rights back to Marvel (along with everything else they had).

They ran it right into the ground, to the point where the last three films were huge disappointments, with the last two being outright bombs (Dark Phoenix and New Mutants).

i dunno about others, but i saw the mistake of Apocalypse differently than critics, who of course pushed their bad reviews influence on others
while i certainly thought it could have been done and developed better, it's not nearly as dreadful as critics make it out to be.
Some of my pet peeves with Xmen Apocalypse .....

- once again i thought they were fluky and poorly under developed with the origin of the Phoenix - same with Dark Phoenix. it was never
explained what the phoenix was, they didnt make it an entity, whether jean grey or dark phoenix,..

- i didn't like Singer's 4 horsemen story with the original horsemen wiped out in first 2 minutes of the movie- never even knew who they were, what
they look like but then Singer decides to have Psylocke, Arch Angel, young Storm and Magneto
And as Archangel and Psylocke became new Horsemen, they have little lines and dialogue. Just made action figures.

- and while yet more very significant time (waaay too much more time) was spent on Magneto's origin again ...that time could've..shouldve
went to explaining/developing Phoenix Origin. , Jean Grey...

- I didn’t think Apocalypse was a sorry villain, but I thought he couldve been much more charismatic and stand out.
(ala Thanos, Dr. Octopus, Joker, Magneto, 2-Face, Loki, or Sebastian Shaw, etc) rather than a methodical cumbersome villain.
Maybe I wanted more a louder, ,more brasher mad-dog insane nut of a demeanor, than the calm-collective, cumbersome Apocalypse.
and they never seem to want to use the name “ Apocalypse “ but more so his Egyptian name “ En Sabah Nur”

- Opportunity missed for humor spots with Apocalypse fishing and surfing brief history classic TV commercials such as Mikey-Life cereal, Jack in Box,
Simpsons, SB halftime shows, etc.

- And with some very brief classic TV shows or commercials ,the Simpsons, Leave it to Beaver, Superbowl commercials/halftime shows,
(Life-Mikey cereal, Jack in the Box etc. commercials being left out

It did have it's pluses -
1) Particularly CGI special effects and battle scenes such as when Apocalypse display his powers, his eyes glow with a creepy pure white. among other superhuman power abilities
2) there was a vast entertaining appeal of CGI special effects and fight scenes through out.with several characters- via final battle.
3) Just like Days of Future Past film, I love the hilarious antics and display of Quicksilver speedily removal or placement of humans/items in a quick of an eye.
it worked wonderfully in DOFP, and it was a pleasant encore
4) There’s also an very brief cameo appearance " berserker" slash n’ fight scene with Wolverine as the original “ Weapon-X “
5) Did have a good pace and didn't dialogue-linger

it’s not on the level of Xmen 1st Class,..Xmen United or Days of Future Past .and I thought it could have been done better, overall
But still with good pace, terrific CGI special effects, steady camera-work, very good fighting scenes. i was never bored.
Still thought Xmen Apocalypse enjoyable fun flick.
