If Greg Hardy could have just stayed under the radar and kept his mouth closed ...
If Randy Gregory could have just laid off the pot and rode out his four-game suspension ...
If Ro McClain just cared enough to practice ...

This defense would be as "monsterous" as the offense.

Okay, back to reality.

yea but truthfully if all three didn't have problems they never would have been in Dallas, so if they were to ever behave they would still be where they started.

and hardy should never have been here and anyone that cheered for him or made excuses for him should be ashamed tbh.

I think we need to look at the flip side of that. It just makes it soo much more obvious that we dont need head cases on this team in order to win. We are better off without them. Even without the emotionally challenged Dez Bryant this team is getting better and better. We dont need head cases or desperate signings or draft picks to make it work here. RKG's is EXACTLY what we need. We just need to stick to what we say.
Exactly. Hardy is gone. They are a better team without him.

I should punch myself in the face, but I actually agree with you.

Hardy had a splash early but was less and less effective as time went on. I think McClain is having as much of an impact as Hardy did....hoping he can stay healthy.

If Ro was here, which guy would we get? The one who could barely move side to side for the first 3-4 games or the guy who was a difference maker? Right now, I would take a steady player like Nzeocha over him.

Gregory did almost nothing last year....Ryan Davis is an upgrade over what he provided. So is Irving.

I definitely think there has been some addition by subtraction.

Hardy had much more impact that his stats would indicate. Much more than McClain. He was a double team magnet, and we don't have that this year. Hopefully Lawrence will be that after a couple weeks.

McClain was good for us last year. He wasn't as awesome as he was in 2014, but he was a good player. MUCH better than what we have next to Lee now. Much better. PFF graded him out at 80, which is an above average starter. Our current LBs outside of Lee are in the 40s.

I'm happy the team put those fools in their rearview mirror and moved on. McClain is a stupids, can't get out of his own way.

Agree
You could add in the Jaylon pick
These are all really really long shots
0/3 so far
Still waiting on Jaylon

I wanted the Boys to draft Jalen Ramsey and Myles Jack with the 1st two picks, thinking we could get a decent back later in the draft, i am glad they drafted the way they did!!

I think this is the point that many people fail to appreciate.
People say, "If only McClain had Sean Lee's attitude/drive." If he had that, he would still be an Oakland Raider.

Hardy wasn't quite the player he was in Carolina, but he was still productive. 6 sacks in 12 games.

Hindsight is 20/20. I don't remember many people complaining about us taking a flier on an all-pro DE.

If he wasn't a psychopath, he'd complete this defense.

I was one who did complain about us taking a flier on him because of his character and the negative PR he would bring. I knew he would only last one season, said it repeatedly. The many I argued with about him knew then how I felt. He wasn't close to the player he was in Carolina in 2013 and he only had 2 solid seasons there. Even though he had 6 sacks in the 12 games he played for us he only had 2 sacks the final 8 games, fading miserably down the stretch. I said after last season it wouldn't surprise me if no one signs him.

Not that many people care on this board about Ro McClain these days but he's been working out at Alabama the past couple of weeks last time I heard.

Whether that does Dallas any good or not is to remain to be seen, but since he's still on this team I thought I would share the info.

Sad but we gambled on these troubled players and it did not work out.
The good is that we have Dak, Zeke, Morris, Jackson and the OL, and can invest more heavily on defense next 2 years.
Though still need WR/RT/G replacements.

True, I hold out some hope for Gregory since he is trying to do the right thing and get help. Still po'ed because of his action but now he at least is dealing with the problem. The other guys were people who were given a 2nd or 3rd chance and did not care enough to take advantage of those chances to them, to hell with them do not care what they do. I hear many who holler giving players a 2nd chance yet then seem to get upset when the 2nd chance is given and yet spit in the face of the opportunity. Yeah Jerry fault for giving talented players a extra chance.

Yes, some hope for Gregory.
Even if he comes back great, we need to spend resources on DE because you just cannot trust him anymore...

Well despite what many have said and what many believe, McClain still hasn't been released yet. Maybe there are rules regarding this or legal aspects to trying to get some of the money back after his suspension is over, but the fact is he is still on the team at this point. His suspension ends in 5 more weeks. I know Saban visited him, perhaps that had an impact, perhaps it didn't.

I always envisioned Lee, McClain, and Smith... thought that would be an excellent linebacker corps. I'm willing to wait and see what happens.

Gregory will also potentially return, and he could help our pass rush to a degree.

You keep making whatever additions on defense you can, and Romo and Bryant return and the sky is the limit here.

Well if Mcclain comes back and plays the last few games and playoffs, that may not be bad.
We would have save most of the cap money and get him for the games that count the most.
Assuming he is in shape and does not mess up the young players.

I agree. I'm not letting him off the hook per say just can see some hope in him that I was not seeing in McClain

Yep what could have been. If Gregory and McClain were sane, the 2 biggest weakness in the D could have been solved and we would have the same chances as the Pats, may be better...
