Video: What Cowboys Jack Sanborn has Flashed on Tape

Liked this signing due to the above video.
He's not some athletic freak LB, limited as an athlete but he understands how to attack the run game, shed/avoid blockers and isn't a finesse LB. While I'm not sure of his "upside" he definitely could be that 'backer than has a 5-8 year career known as a solid LB.

Could see him carving out an early role in the 4-3/run downs. Just want to keep him away from coverage, especially man.

Still don't get the Bears not even keeping him on a RFA tender. Not like he needed to be given a 1st round tender and they had millions of cash to burn this offseason.

Sanborn is a decent LB, for sure, however Liufau needs to be able to start over him. I would like for Flus to add another quality LB to challenge Sanborn, Murray, and Liufau for their spots.

All that being said I'm happy with the pickup of Sanborn.

Solid guy who could do better here. I think I probably like him more than any of the other FA's we got. Now that is not exactly EXALTING HIM TO GODHOOD but its a solid signing.

The commentator's knowledge is questionable given on one play he kept harping on the cornerback failing to break off of a block when it was only obvious he was held on the play and referees threw flags while looking at the hold.

Love the tape. Finally a LB that can stack and shed. Wish he had a little more quickness/speed though. Seems to be good with instincts, disciplined, and strong in his tackling ability in the video. (Highlight videos though).

With that said, it will be interesting how they play the linebackers this year, and which ones are the stand outs.

I've always been impressed with Sanborn's instincts. Smart player with excellent fundamentals and understanding of the game.

First time I saw him on film, Sanborn reminded me of Sean Lee, he looks like he knows where the ball is going before the snap.Eberflus would not have wanted Sanborn here if he wasn't a player .Looks good.

Seems to me that on a couple of his "good" plays, his lack of speed was exposed. One more step and he'd have made the tackle.

But that's why he was a later-round pick and a cheap sign. Doesn't mean he can't be a good, solid player.

The narrator video creator messed up badly. Plays 2 & 3 actually show Sanborn getting burned to the outside and made ineffective against the run. I stopped watching after that.

Yep, to me, off the rip, he's already an upgrade over Clark, imo. The reason he looks to have some Sean Lee in him is because he's a smart player.

Can’t complain about “linebacker depth” then turn around and trash this signing. He absolutely fits.

Annoying that they didn’t care about linebackers when the window was open, but that’s typical of how this team is run.
He is good for depth, same likely with Murray. But who are the starters?

Sanborn and Liufau will be the starter and depth in the middle/strong if no one else is signed. Murray is a straight ahead fast athletic LB who will play weak side until Overshown returns. He won’t be asked to read and react, chase the ball and blitz.

Cody Alexander gives a very good explanation of the Eberflus system, use of LBs, and how our personnel fits his defense. Quinn almost never changed his defense or disguised anything, not even when we were being gutted. Zimmer had lots of variety and tons of disguise, very complex and demanding. Eberflus falls somewhere in between. Some disguise, some variety, but players will know their roles and fits and be solid versus the run. You can find it on YouTube. “Matt Eberflus Master Plan….with Cody Alexander”, but you may want to fast forward through Footsdaking kissing his butt in a long introduction….lol.

i disagree he's going to be the full-time middle linebacker green dot leader, you still have to have a guy like Kendricks and this is Sanborn..maybe even better at diagnosing and Getting to the runner. maybe Matt can make Clark better as well.. camp and PS will bare this out..

Liafu is in the weakside/OLB or strong side with Murray in weakside/pass rush OLB role, role that Overshown would be, and Murray can spell him plus whatever ME conjures up as the LB whisperer. He brought these 2 here for a reason..

San born may not be the future but for 2025/26 season, that his role..he knows this D like Kendricks knew Mikes and will be the leader to get this all moving correctly.
