What did everyone else think about Dak's release time?

I think his arm is stronger than Romo's, even when Romo was healthy.

I agree, although Romo looked good and there were a lot of comments about his arm and how it seemed like he had a lot of velocity in camp. While Dak has a strong arm, hardly heard anyone raving that it was significantly stronger (or weaker) than Romo's. Showers probably has the strongest arm, although it is hard to tell when you throw every pass like you are trying to throw it through a wall.

Here is the thing though.... if a QB has a quick release but not great ball velocity, then the advantage of the quick release really doesn't matter, except he can hold the ball a tick longer before throwing it. I would think ball velocity can make up that .1 second advantage that Romo has over a lot of QB's although I think Romo's velocity is pretty much at least league average.

I think that's accurate. Romo has enough arm strength to make all the required NFL throws, but what elevates him is his lightning quick release and his anticipation.

Dak doesn't quite have Romo's quick release, but it's still pretty damn quick. Dak's anticipation will only improve with time.

Romo's was around .26, Marino was .3, while Dak is .37. It doesn't sound like much, but over a tenth of a second is a big deal when you are talking about the ball getting from the QB to the receiver.

And people need to remember that Tony spent the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 training camps and preseasons working on altering his throwing motion to correct his side arm delivery and his low release point.

Remember how Romo used to get about 4-5 of his passes batted back in his face every game? You haven't seen that much since around 2009. Because he fixed it.

Dak is already ahead of Romo in this department because he doesn't need to spend 4 seasons fixing his throwing motion before being ready to start.

Release times, throwing motions, arm strength..... Dak is more than sufficient in all areas BUT the area that sets him apart so far is mental makeup. The guy has IT.

It's not only about release time, but also the motion. Romo has a super quick release, but more of a 3/4 motion. Dak's is an overhand motion. So was Marino's which makes his release time so ridiculous.
YR

I think Tony Romo and Ken Stabler may have had the quickest non-over the top type deliveries, but Dan Marino's over the top delievery with his huge arm was something special to watch, especially in the early 80s.

Dak has a very quick release for his over the top motion and his ability to release it quickly while on the move is especially impressive.

I loved watching Kenny Snake Stabler play in the 70s with the Raiders. The coolest cat in the NFL. It makes me sick that he didn't get into the Hall of Fame until after he died. Totally biased voting against anything Al Davis and the Raiders. Snake deserved better.
