What Did We Think of Matt Waletzko’s Night?

I disagree. Josh Ball played pretty good last night. Best performance by far all preseason.

If it was up to me, Ball starts at Left Tackle. Tyron Smith starts at Left Guard. Matt Farniok starts at Center. Zack Martin at Right Guard and Terence Steele at Right Tackle. Leave Waletzko as swing Tackle but go get another veteran Tackle just in case. Leave McGovern as swing Guard. Biadasz as backup Center.

It was Ball's best performance by a mile. But that's not saying much.

Ball looked better at RT vs LT. Ball just looked more natural and fluid on right side.

But he really did not stand out at either tackle spot.

I like Waletzko's potential better but neither are ready to contribute to a team serious about the postseason.

Never mind asking either to start.

I didn't think he played enough to get a good picture of how he performed or not. Maybe I just didn't notice well enough.

In any case, playing vs. 2nd and 3rd stringers doesn't offer much of an idea. Isn't he supposed to have a bad shoulder?

I can’t really judge the oline watching on TV myself
But what I little I could get was ball looked better than he looked earlier
I still don’t think he’s a viable swing tackle
I like Wally but he’s raw and needs to develop
They seem convinced ball has something
Ideally we could stash Wally on ir and bring in a vet to be the starter and ball might be workable as the swing

It seems like it may be a while before we see Waletzko in any serious capacity. Waletzko looks destined for injured reserve early on.

What is ailing Waletzko at the moment is a shoulder injury. Incidentally this is an issue that stems back to his time in college. Why he waited this long to have surgery & miss playing in the NFL in his first season is certainly mind boggling.
