What do the cowboys need to do to beat the eagles?

There is something very wrong with this guy.

What pass rusher in league history suddenly has the lights come on at age 30. A guy who never had more than 5 sacks in a season suddenly has 12.5 age age 30 and then 18 at age 31.

I suspect steroids and/or HGH.

Regardless, the Eagles got a bargain signing this guy 5 years at $28M. Jerry was asleep at the wheel to let a Pro Bowl pass rusher coming off a double digit sack year to get by us when we desperately need help, too.

$6M/yr is a bargain for a guy who can get double digits in sacks. The Eagles got this guy, the Phins got Jason Taylor and the Pats got Andre Carter. All while Jerry did nothing to fortify our pass rush.

We need to do something next offseason. A first rounder at OLB makes sense to me if the value board aligns itself. We are far too weak in the nickel and can't get after the QB at the end of the game because everyone knows if Ware is doubled no one else can defeat his blocker.

Take a look at his career numbers: http://www.nfl.com/player/jasonbabin/2505900/profile

He was largely pathetic through his entire career and all of a sudden explodes at age 30?

Yeah right.

I also find it troubling that you say you suspect HGH or steroid use, and then in the same breath criticize Jerry Jones for not signing a guy that couldn't even stay on the active 53 for the majority of his career and never notched more than 5 sacks in a season.

I'll just make a guess here and say the fact that he's a 4-3 DE versed in that wide-9 scheme had something to do with Philly's interest and Dallas' lack of interest.

clearly we have to run well
have to score early
have to contain mccoy

a key match up will be smith on babin becasue most likely we will give help to free against cole, that will leave smith one on one with babin

if he wins that, tony will get time to throw

cant help out on both sides

We shouldn't have to help out Free. He's being paid to be a franchise LT. Play like one.

if he can 'man up' and neutralize cole, that could be huge

Break Vick in half. Stop McCoy at the LOS, don't let him get that first step beyond. Have the Offense show up mad.

One other thing, our receivers need to do a better job beating the jam. They got owned in that regard the first game.

Just beat me to it. That's the #1 key for me in this game. They think they can get by with a good bit of single coverage on Dez and Miles.

On defense I want to see a good bit of zone and or anything that gives Vic more to think about.

Throwing a couple quick slants a la the Bucs game helps, too. I was really happy to see that.

Stay disciplined in your lanes. Stop their running game. Run the ball down their throat. Don't kill yourself. Don't make stupid penalties. Focus on stopping them on 1st down and getting good positive yards for us on 1st. If you let them run that hurry up offense and they can get up on you by 10 points, that's when they turn those little pass rushers on you and that's a problem. Just do what we do and we can beat them. Play stupid football and we will get our butts kicked and face the Giants in NY on the last game of the season for the Division. Beat Philly and we are in.

I'm just starting to wonder if the Ryan brothers know what it takes to stop that Philly offense. It seems like Rex approached it the same way Rob did by worrying about the WRs and the deep ball yet they let McCoy and Celek go off for big games.

It's going to come down to the defense and the oline. Same as every week.

That has been and will be the mantra for the Cowboys for years.

I just meant in principle that we didn't pursue another pass rusher to complement Ware. This one came at a reasonable price. We could have also pursued a guy like Andre Carter who signed with the Pats. I hope we don't make the same mistake again about not getting Ware a pass rushing buddy.

We play many snaps with a 4-man front where he could contribute. Ware needs help and OLB who are great pass rushers can be hard to find. They usually have to be drafted.

The quickest and most reliable way to get Ware help next season is a vet DE who wants to play about 50% of the defensive snaps as a specialist.

Why would you want to pursue a 31 year old guy who got 2.5 sacks the year before? And he played with Orakpo on the other side when he got that wopping 2.5 sacks. Yes he is doing well this year but hindsight is always 20/20.

Romo needs to be the man. Be prepared to be under heavy pressure, make quick reads, don't panic under pressure, and just go out and win the game.

You're right. There is absolutely no one on this team other than Tony Romo.

Romo hands off the ball to Romo, gets a big block from Romo....touchdown Romo. Romo snaps to Romo, Romo holds, Romo's extra point is good. Romo kicks off, touchback. Romo now takes the field on defense.

Seriously do you ever give Romo credit or a compliment? This is a team game. The Cowboys have to go out there and play a great game. Romo's playing so good right now it's pretty much a guarantee he's gonna play well. Romo can have a great game and we can still lose as we saw in last week's loss to the Giants. Hell Romo has been great this entire season outside of the 4th quarter agains the Jets and 2nd half against the Lions yet Dallas is only 8-6. You lose and win as a team.
