They both drafted offensive linemen in the 1st round in 2010.

If you can't protect your QB, you can't win.

Do it, Jerry.

They both have first round NT's.

They both have first round ILB's. Steelers have 2.

They both have first round QB's.

I don't think anyone would call these OL's great by any stretch.

Both OL have massive issues.

They got here in spited of their OL's, not because of them.

The Commanders, Seahawks, and 49ers all celebrate and wonder why not them if this is the magic formula. Heck the 49ers nabbed 2 O-linemen in this Draft. They should get there twice.

Pittsburgh allowed the 8th most QB sacks in the NFL at 43. Green Bay 11th most at 38.

Let's look at the flip side though. Pittsburgh was #1 in the NFL with 48 QB sacks. Green Bay was tied for 2nd with 47. So we should draft Von Miller or Robert Quinn by this logic and throw away Anthony Spencer. Think there is no correlation between QB sacks and winning? Pittsburgh was #1 in the NFL with 232 points allowed, Green Bay was #2 with 240 points allowed.

Sounds like defense wins championships.

Wow that's crazy who would have thought that sacks, tackles for a loss, interceptions, forced fumbles, quarterback pressures, any defensive turnover, and defensive touchdown would help u win games expescially when there close right

Not only did SF use two #1's on OL this year.........

They used a future #1 to move back into one to take Joe Staley #28 ish a few years back.

Took David Baas top of 2. I believe he was first pick of 2nd round.

Used a high 2 on other guard Chico Rachal or whatever his name is.

I believe Justin Smiley was a high 2 as well.

Not just Championship!!!!!!!

Should be a dynasty with all those high picks on OL.

Well there you have it, pick an OL and it guarantees a trip to the super bowl.

But wait, since SF picked two OL in the first rd, shouldnt that mean they'd make it two yrs in a row then?

That's a mighty big hammer you used to drive the nail home!!

Just about any QB outside of the Rapist would have been knocked out of multiple games or maybe even the season as much punishment as he took; and its not all on him either. Rodgers has gotten rocked this year as well. ITs just plain dumb about the Steelers not doing more to shore up their O line. Green Bay is getting there and clearly understands the need to get better up front. You look at the Cowboys: no team in the NFL has used fewer high picks over the last 5 years for O line. Sooner or later that comes back to haunt you as we are finding out.

Let's get a reality check in here. What Packers & Steelers have in common is much better drafts then the Cowboys have had recently except for an occasionally good draft. Most of the Steeler' players were draft picks who turned out to become good starters or good backups.

Another factor is the stability withiin the Steeler organization--which is extremely rare in the NFL--3 HCs since Rooneys took over the Steelers. Cowboys only had 2 HCs in Landry & Johnson (1960-1994), but since then Cowboys have had 6 HCs (1994-2011).

The reality also is the Steelers have an defense in place which they believe in and which they consistently draft players who play very successfully in their system. Same goes for their offense--although not so successfully as the defense. In other words they've also got a GM who drafts well.

The Packers also have done well since the early 90s--but not as well as the Steelers. Incidentally also don't forget both teams are small market teams who manage to compete successfully against the big city teams.

no, what the packers and steelers have in common are:

1. real GMs who know how to make picks
2. owners who stay the heck out of the way
3. focus is to win football championships not marketing, dollar signs, or publicity

go figure

obviously there's nothing magic about drafting OL early just like there's nothing magic about running the ball 50x per game even though you're only averaging 2 yards per carry. If you suck at drafting, and Jerry does suck, then parts of your team will suck too,,, some of us would just like to see Jerry quit neglecting the OL so it doesn't suck "as much".

Is that a fact?

Who is the Packers owner who does this?

Oh, and if you think the Packers and Steelers aren't in this to make money you are out of your mind.

hos, you know this just as well as i do so dont put up straw men, you are better than that.

the people own the packers but the key is that they dont interfere in the day to day decision making of who should be the GM and who they should pick in the draft. football people make those decisions not an owner whose ego takes precedence.

of course all team owners are in it to make money, once again a straw man argument. The key is that the good ones are in it to try and win championships and parlay that into money. unlike our owner for whom making money comes first and championship a very distant second.

What's the strawman? You said 3 things about them and 2 aren't true at all. How could 100,000+ people who are stockholders possibly interfere in the day to day operations of the team? Both Mark Murphy (former Commanders BTW) and Art Rooney II are involved in their team. Every owner is to some degree. This is not interference by any of them. You don't invest hundreds of millions of dollars in a business and then sit on your hands. No NFL owner does that.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Look at the situation in Tennessee. You're telling me that Bud Adams has not already decided to part ways with Vince Young? The incoming Coach will have no say in the matter, and this is not interfering?

When Ruthlessraper was accused of rape in Georgia you're telling me that Art Rooney II did not get involved? Is that honestly your story?

I will not deny that Jerry sticks his nose in everything, and is nauseatingly visible. But let's be honest here, all NFL owners are involved in their teams and sometimes they are very visible about it. Jerry is always visible.

Both teams also have nice wr corps (yesterday's performance aside) and the Steelers in particular seem to draft one or two every year for the last half dozen years.

Both teams are better run then ours and that comes down to the Owner/GM.
