What do we think about Brett Hundley?

He's not Kaepernick. He actually reminds me of Geno Smith a little bit physically. There is a lot to like about Hundley. Good arm, good feet, quick release but there is something about him that I just don't like. I'm not sure he likes to get hit. I mean, nobody likes to get hit but some guys can't play through that. I wonder if that's the deal with Hundley? His throwing motion is not over the top. It's not really sidearm either but it's a low trajectory on the release. Some might call it compact but he makes himself smaller with that release. I like him but I don't know what it is about him.

If he could be developed, he could be a very good QB in the NFL.

Kinda funny since the most recent Super Bowl was won by a "scrambling" QB.

Russell Wilson is a pass-first QB, and a fine one at that. If not for his stature, he would easily have been a 1st round pick coming out of Wisc. That was the only knock on him.

Can you supply me with your list of run first QBs then? You know, those scrambling guys who can't win a Super Bowl.

Would probably be easier to show the QBs who were "run first QB" who have won Super Bowls.

Mike Vick
Kaepernick
Cam Newton
Vince Young
Johnny Manziel
Terrell Pryor
Troy Smith

These are the names that came to mind of run-first QB's who've been drafted in the last 15 years in the first 3 rounds. Basically guys who were better runners than passers at the college level.

I'm not talking about QB's who are great pocket-passers that can run, ala Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck.

I watched Hundley quite a bit in college, and whenever his first or second option wasn't there, he took off to run. When he felt pressure, he would almost always immediately tuck it to run. He didn't keep his eyes down field. He's a good enough athlete that he made some big plays because of it at the college level, but as we all know, the NFL is a whole different animal. I, personally, will always take a pure pocket-passer, even if he's a bit of a stiff, over a guy who wants to use his legs rather than go through his progressions.

That's kinda the point, there are no run first QBs in the NFL. Nor in College. There are QBs who can run and those that can't. There are QBs that can pass, read defenses and anticipate throws and those that can't.

To classify Hundley as some sort of run first, scrambling QB is silly.

Well, I never did any of those things so I'm not sure that I am the one who you should be trying to make your point to. All I tried to say is that it's a little useless to try and put a list together of the "Run First QBs" who haven't won the Super Bowl. Much easier to put a list together of the "Run First" guys who have.

That's really the point I was trying to make.

Vick went to the playoffs 5 times with two different teams. 4 time pro bowler.
Kap went to the divisional round of the playoffs last year, but took a big step back this year.
Cam Newton has two playoff appearances and two pro bowl visits

Vince Young was a mental midget.
Manziel - see Young

Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl either. Many very good "pocket" passers have never won a Super Bowl.

And you do realize that Wilson did have 896 yards rushing this year, right?

My point wasn't necessarily directed at your point. And point taken. Thanks for pointing that out.

Never said they weren't good players. My original post stated that they don't win Super Bowls, and not a single one of them has.

Wilson averaged about 7 carries a game this season, but again, he's a good passer who doesn't have to rely on running, and he almost never takes hits cause he runs out of bounds or slides before contact gets to him.

Not to mention that QB's who tend to run more get injured much more frequently than pocket passers (see RG3). I just really don't want one, especially not Hundley. That's my opinion. If yours differs, that's fine.

Do not want..

Rather the joke be on them rather than on us.

What was the scouting report on Steve Young when he came out of college?

Wow. A lot of hate for the guy. I think he ends up being the best of the class this year. He does need a year or two on the bench learning the game, but he was all that UCLA team had.

Hundley
Year---CMP%---TD---INT---QBRating---Sacks
2014---69.1-------22----5-------152.7--------38
2013---67.2-------24----9-------153.7--------35
2012---66.6-------29----11------147.7--------52

Winston
2014---65.3------25----18-------145.5-------17
2013---66.9------40----10-------184.8-------27

I love Brett but I don't see 1st round happening unless a team wants to pick a great person over the best player available (and they might). Brett has consistently had problems reading defenses pre-snap and as a result is often times a second or two late delivering the ball- if he even makes the correct read- and that is on a college field. I think the Scouts have to be very aware of this issue. His legs aren't going to save him in the league... I wish him the best but I'd peg him to be 3rd rounder. I hope that I eat my words. I'd love to be wrong on this.

I think there is some tools to work with.....Not the worst prospect. If you could get him day 3...I think your getting a steal.
