What do you Cowboy fans have to say about Tiki Barber?

Hi folks. I'm sure all of you know who Joe Carini is. If not, he's the personal trainer who worked with Tiki Barber over the last three years of his career, helping him set career highs in rushing yardage, yards per carry and rushing touchdowns.

Larry Johnson employed Carini this offseason in New York. Obviously he had a big workload last year (416 carries) and the history of RBs with that kind of load is not good.

I was just wondering what Cowboys fans had to say about Carini and what changes you may have noticed in Tiki Barber after he worked with the guy. I figured you guys watched him quite a bit since you play the Giants twice a year. I asked some G-Men fans the the other day.

Do you think Carini can do the same thing for Larry Johnson that he did for Barber? Can he help him avoid injury? What sort of season might you predict for LJ (FYI the Chiefs upgraded their offensive line this offseason and drafted a stud WR)?

Anything else you want to throw in, feel free. This is research for a column I'm writing.

Barber really improved over the last 5 years of his career.. The last three years were stellar, so Carini probably will help Larry Johnson a great deal.

Chiefs upgraded their line? They drafted Walker in the 6th round and signed Mcintosh. Not much of an improvement.

Heard later in his career, Barber went really heavy with the weights. Only doing a few reps but basically maxing out.

LJ seems to have excellent power, so I dont know if that would be the focus

I know that over the last few years Tiki seemed to have found the solution to the fumbling that plagues him most of his career. That has been attributed to Tom Caughlin but it might have been Joe Carini instead. As for his running I didn't see a marked difference in Tiki's style under Carini. He was always a great runner but his numbers were better because he held on to the ball.

Being a Cowboys fan I watch primarily NFC games so I haven't seen that much of LJ so I don't know if he has any fumbling issues or not. If he has had problems in that area you might look for improvement. Beyond that, I doubt you will see anything significant. I expect that working with Carini might keep him healthier and prolong his career but that is not something that will show up in his day to day stats or be visable in the way he runs.

I don't know if it had so much to do with improving Tiki's running as it did with keeping him healthy as he didn't miss a game the last 5 years.

Emmitt Smith had a chiropractor and a massage therapist who worked on him daily to help improve his flexibility and keep his joints and muscles loose. Guys who lift a lot of weights but don't work on flexibility tend to get a lot of pulled muscles and torn/strained ligaments/tendons/cartilage. Emmitt avoided any serious injuries throughout his career (until he was playing with the wrong team and ran into Roy Williams who broke his collar bone).

Johnson is carrying a very heavy load in terms of touches and won't last long without a good trainer who understands what he needs. Carini sounds like a guy who can really help him to stay healthy even with the number of carries he is getting.

Now if he can find a counselor that can help him with his attitude that would really be good.

He is a sniffling. Dont like him , never will. But he was a good back that always seemed to get up after a good hit and ALWAYS find the crease.

Used to like Tiki, but his constant whining last season turned me off.

I don't know that you can draw much comparison of the two, based on the trainer. The running styles are very different between Barber and LJ. I'd imagine the training each would receive would also be very different.
