What Do You Do If We Sign A Starting Caliber LT?

With the timing the FO has chosen, an interesting choice has to be made when constructing the staring lineup as the season progresses.

IF, and only if, we sign a staring caliber T like Jason Peters; where does that leave the LG spot?

We are probably too close to the season for him to jump right into the starting lineup. So what do you do, play Tyler Smith at LT for 2 games then back to LG? Then does Smith replace McGovern if CM is playing well? Do we sit Smith/keep him as a swing if Peters and CM are playing up to standard?

What do y’all think?

No way Tyler is replaced by Peters automatically . As back up which he wouldn’t be interested in. Progress stopper deluxe

Start Peters at LT and Smith at LG.

Smith has been practicing at LG all summer. Peters has played LT most his career. Tyron Smith is supposedly coming back this season so no need to flip flop Tyler back and forth.

When Tyron comes back, then either Peters is the swing tackle or if Steele has been disappointing, flip him to RT.

Tyler Smith playing left tackle right now is a nightmare. It means the season is already over. Don’t even think I could get excited for this football season. It’s that bad.

So they better sign Peters and plug him in at LT.

Silly, he's a 1st round draft pick and has not only the nasty streak but the skill set to play there. Will he have some growing pains yes, but we're not talking about some low level prospect out there- that would be a nightmare, this is just a challenge for a very talented player starting his nfl career

Not sure if you read the whole thing but it’s going to take a few weeks for Peters to start but once he’s ready I think he will. He’s the best LT on the roster.

Smith was drafted to be a LG first then develop into LT. I think signing Peters is a sign that they like that plan better than throwing Smith into the fire all season.

Plus, “progress stopper” is irrelevant if he protects your QB. Dak is the most valuable player on the team, you have to do what’s best for him to stay upright and until Smith proves otherwise that’s 1000% Peters.

if mccarthy believes he's better than tyler smith...he'll start and either move tyler back to guard or start mcgovern at guard.
it would give tyler's ankle time to heal...for sure.
my guess is tyler starts at left tackle but they bring in a vet to serve as the swing.

If his ankle is tweaked I’d much rather have him at LG instead of having to try to move in space to protect Dak’s backside.

I believe Tyler is very talented and just needs to play. However if the FO signs Peters they obviously are inline with your thinking. If he’ll be a back up that’s my thinking. If we win with Peters starting into the play offs your thinking is correct.

If Jason Peters is our LT it mean time to go fishing. Season is just games to play out to see where we draft next year.

Smith.

What is so hard about that?
Smith was battling McGovern and McCarthy said if the season started today (this was a week ago) then McGovern would be the starter.

So I’m just going by what the head coach said. Seems like McGovern would be getting first go at LG. If he’s playing well alongside Peters, you take him out anyway?

I do nothing different as i'm going to watch the games eitherway. If Peters starts i'll go back to thinking this is an 8 win team untill proven otherwise.

Start Peters at LT. He has 800 years' experience and knows every NFL team.
Start Tyler at LG.

McGovern is next iOL up and the big fullback.

Get the other rook MW, ready to back up Peters.
