It can be anything but it can only be one thing. IE Cheerleaders, Stadium, Uniforms, Fans, etc etc. It can even be a Player of past or present. But what one thing could you as a cowboy fan say "that's my Favorite"

For me Its the :starspinThere is just something about that star as a little kid growing up in the early eighties that just held my attention. I would go to bed at night with my cowboys helmet on my nightstand and I would just stare at the Blue Star. My father was a cowboys fan and that's what made me a fan, but that star is as unique in football as it gets to any sport.

How bout you guys. What "does it" for you?

I think it all starts with the helmet, which is to say "the star."

What a great question!

For me, it is very simple-TRADITION and Great People.

Tex Schramm & Tom Landry started it all. 20+ years of winning seasons!

While Big D is known for the GLAM, I take great pleasure in the grunts who are the glue for a TEAM- the Bill Bates and Robert Newhouses...

I would have to agree Manster. What first attracted me to the Cowboys was the Star but I love them because of the people who have been a part of this great franchise. From Bob Lilly and Tom Landry to Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware. Great men, great players, great coaches and front office (well used to be anyway), and great teams.

Most of you younger fans didn't get to see the team back in the day so you missed out on a lot of what I am talking about. So if you see me reminiscing about the old days a lot maybe now you will understand.

The star. The prestige. The hatred/jealousy from others.

The first game of football I watched, way back when, Irvin dunked the ball over the post after her scored, from then I was hooked.

How do you narrow it down to one thing? Tony Hill caught my eye first. Then Tony Dorsett. Then the awesome uniforms. Then the famous cheerleaders. Then I grew to learn the rich tradition and history of the organization and I've been hooked ever since. If I had to pick one thing, I would say the Big Blue Star. It is the symbol that holds it all together.

Remember that scene at the beginning of Hard Knocks when they showed the star being placed on the helmet? That gave me chills. They probably wouldn't show that for any other team because it just wouldn't be the same.

It is a tradition back to my childhood years and the early 60s. Nostalgia and fandom rolled into one.

Excellent thread!

Like many of you, being a Cowboys fan is a tradition in my family that has been passed down through generations. I can't imagine rooting for any other team. Beyond team affiliation, first and foremost, I have always loved the game of football. Growing up, regardless of what season it was, when the neighborhood kids got together to play a game, football was always my first choice.

If I have to say what one thing about the Cowboys that keeps me a fan, it's the connection, not just between my family and I, but all fans that I encounter in a given day. In sports bars across America, a complete stranger becomes your best friend should you be rooting for the same team. I suppose one could appreciate that connection with any sport that they love, but with the Cowboys, it's like Visa, "it's everywhere you want to be."

The star. It's what drew me to the team as a kid. There is something about that star.

Tradition. It goes back to the very inception of the Modern NFL. Tex Schramm, Tom Landry, heck even Hunt had ties back to the Cowboys. I just think it's cool that we came from a nothing franchise to the Marque Franchise of the Sport. It's something that all Cowboy Fans should know, should understand and should take pride in IMO.
